Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of Yahweh filled the house.

The priests could not enter into the house of Yahweh, because the glory of Yahweh filled Yahweh's house.

Alle Israels barn så på da ilden kom ned, og da Yahwehs herlighet var over huset; og de bøyde seg med ansiktet til jorden på steinhellen og tilba, og takket Yahweh, og sa: For han er god; for hans miskunnhet varer evig.

All the children of Israel looked on, when the fire came down, and the glory of Yahweh was on the house; and they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped, and gave thanks to Yahweh, [saying], For he is good; for his loving kindness endures for ever.

Da ofret kongen og hele folket offer for Yahweh.

Then the king and all the people offered sacrifice before Yahweh.

Kong Salomo ofret 22 000 okser og 120 000 sauer i offer. Så innviet kongen og hele folket Guds hus.

King Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand oxen, and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.

Prestene sto på sine plasser; levittene også med Yahwehs musikkinstrumenter, som kong David hadde laget for å takke Yahweh (for hans miskunnhet varer evig), når David priste ved deres tjeneste; og prestene blåste i trompeter foran dem, og hele Israel sto.

The priests stood, according to their offices; the Levites also with instruments of music of Yahweh, which David the king had made to give thanks to Yahweh, (for his loving kindness endures for ever), when David praised by their ministry: and the priests sounded trumpets before them; and all Israel stood.

Moreover Solomon made the middle of the court holy that was before the house of Yahweh; for there he offered the burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace-offerings, because the brazen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offering, and the meal-offering, and the fat.

På den tiden feiret Salomo høytid i syv dager, og hele Israel med ham, en meget stor forsamling, fra inngangen til Hamat til elven Egypt.

So Solomon held the feast at that time seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great assembly, from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of Egypt.

På den åttende dagen holdt de en høytidelig forsamling; for de hadde holdt innvielsen av alteret i syv dager, og festen i syv dager.

On the eighth day they held a solemn assembly: for they kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days.

Den treogtyvende dagen i den syvende måneden sendte han folket av sted til deres telt, glade og med hjerter som frydet seg over den godhet som Yahweh hadde vist David, Salomo og sitt folk Israel.

On the three and twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away to their tents, joyful and glad of heart for the goodness that Yahweh had shown to David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.

Slik fullførte Salomo Yahwehs hus og kongens hus; og alt som Salomo hadde i sitt hjerte å gjøre i Yahwehs hus og i sitt eget hus, lyktes godt.

Thus Solomon finished the house of Yahweh, and the king's house: and all that came into Solomon's heart to make in the house of Yahweh, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.

Yahweh viste seg for Salomo om natten og sa til ham: Jeg har hørt din bønn og har valgt dette stedet for meg som et hus for offer.

Yahweh appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him, I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for a house of sacrifice.

Hvis jeg lukker himmelen så det ikke regner, eller befaler gresshoppene å fortære landet, eller sender pest blant mitt folk;

If I shut up the sky so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;

hvis mitt folk, som er kalt med mitt navn, ydmyker seg og ber og søker mitt ansikt og vender om fra sine onde veier, da vil jeg høre fra himmelen, og vil tilgi deres synd og helbrede deres land.

if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Nå skal mine øyne være åpne og mine ører lytte til bønnen som fremsettes på dette stedet.

Now my eyes shall be open, and my ears attentive, to the prayer that is made in this place.

For nå har jeg valgt og gjort dette huset hellig, for at mitt navn skal være der til evig tid; og mine øyne og mitt hjerte skal være der for alltid.

For now have I chosen and made this house holy, that my name may be there forever; and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.

Og du, hvis du vandrer for mitt ansikt som David, din far, vandret, og gjør alt jeg har befalt deg, og holder mine lover og mine bud;

As for you, if you will walk before me as David your father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep my statutes and my ordinances;

da vil jeg befeste din kongedømmes trone, slik jeg inngikk pakt med David, din far, og sa: Det skal ikke mangle deg en mann til å styre Israel.

then I will establish the throne of your kingdom, according as I covenanted with David your father, saying, There shall not fail you a man to be ruler in Israel.

Men hvis dere vender dere bort og forlater mine lover og mine bud som jeg har satt foran dere, og går og tjener andre guder og tilber dem;

But if you turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;

da vil jeg rydde dem ut av mitt land som jeg har gitt dem; og dette huset, som jeg har helliget for mitt navn, vil jeg kaste ut av mitt syn, og gjøre det til et ordspråk og et spottord blant alle folk.

then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have made holy for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

Dette huset, som er så høyt, enhver som går forbi det, skal bli forbløffet og spørre: Hvorfor har Yahweh gjort slik mot dette landet og dette huset?

This house, which is so high, everyone who passes by it shall be astonished, and shall say, Why has Yahweh done thus to this land, and to this house?

De skal svare: Fordi de forlot Yahweh, deres fedres Gud, som førte dem ut av landet Egypt, og holdt seg til andre guder og tilba dem og tjente dem, derfor har han ført all denne ulykken over dem.

They shall answer, Because they forsook Yahweh, the God of their fathers, who brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshiped them, and served them: therefore has he brought all this evil on them.
