1 Det skjedde i Ikonium at de sammen gikk inn i synagogen og talte slik at en stor mengde både jøder og grekere kom til tro.

It happened in Iconium that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke that a great multitude both of Jews and of Greeks believed.

2 Men de vantroende jødene oppviglet og forbitret sjelene til hedningene mot brødrene.

But the disbelieving{or, disobedient} Jews stirred up and embittered the souls of the Gentiles against the brothers.

3 Derfor ble de der lenge og talte frimodig i Herren, som vitnet om sitt nådesord og ga dem mulighet til å utføre tegn og under.

Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who testified to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

4 Men mengden i byen ble delt. Noen holdt med jødene, og noen med apostlene.

But the multitude of the city was divided. Part sided with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

5 Da noen av både hedningene og jødene, sammen med deres ledere, planla å mishandle dem og steine dem,

When some of both the Gentiles and the Jews, with their rulers, made a violent attempt to mistreat and stone them,

6 ble de klar over det og flyktet til byene i Lykaonia, Lystra, Derbe og området omkring.

they became aware of it, and fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra, Derbe, and the surrounding region.

7 Der forkynte de evangeliet.

There they preached the Gospel.

8 I Lystra satt en mann som var lammet i føttene, ufør fra fødselen, som aldri hadde gått.

At Lystra a certain man sat, impotent in his feet, a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked.

9 Han lyttet til Paulus som talte. Paulus så fast på ham og merket at han hadde tro til å bli helbredet,

He was listening to Paul speaking, who, fastening eyes on him, and seeing that he had faith to be made whole,

10 og sa med høy stemme: "Stå oppreist på føttene dine!" Han sprang opp og begynte å gå.

said with a loud voice, "Stand upright on your feet!" He leaped up and walked.

11 Da folkemengden så hva Paulus hadde gjort, hevet de røsten og sa på lykaonisk: "Gudene har steget ned til oss i menneskeskikkelse!"

When the multitude saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice, saying in the language of Lycaonia, "The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!"

12 De kalte Barnabas for "Jupiter" og Paulus for "Merkur", siden han var hovedtaleren.

They called Barnabas "Jupiter," and Paul "Mercury," because he was the chief speaker.

13 Jupiters prest, som hadde et tempel foran byen, brakte okser og kranser til portene og ville ofre sammen med folkemengden.

The priest of Jupiter, whose temple was in front of their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and would have made a sacrifice along with the multitudes.

14 Men da apostlene Barnabas og Paulus hørte dette, rev de klærne sine og løp inn i folkemengden, ropende:

But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they tore their clothes, and sprang into the multitude, crying out,

15 "Menn, hvorfor gjør dere dette? Vi er også mennesker med like følelser som dere, og vi forkynner et godt budskap for at dere skal vende om fra disse unyttige tingene til den levende Gud, som skapte himmelen og jorden og havet og alt som er i dem.

"Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to the living God, who made the sky and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them;

16 Han lot i tidligere tider alle folkeslagene vandre sine egne veier.

who in the generations gone by allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways.

17 Likevel etterlot han seg ikke uten vitnesbyrd; han gjorde godt ved å gi dere regn fra himmelen og fruktbare tider, og fylle hjertene våre med mat og glede."

Yet he didn't leave himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you{TR reads "us" instead of "you"} rains from the sky and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness."

18 Selv når de sa dette, hadde de knapt klart å hindre folkemengden i å ofre til dem.

Even saying these things, they hardly stopped the multitudes from making a sacrifice to them.

19 Men noen jøder fra Antiokia og Iconium kom dit, og etter å ha overtalt folkemengden, steinet de Paulus og dro ham ut av byen, da de trodde han var død.

But some Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there, and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul, and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead.

20 Men mens disiplene sto rundt ham, reiste han seg og gikk inn i byen. Dagen etter dro han ut med Barnabas til Derbe.

But as the disciples stood around him, he rose up, and entered into the city. On the next day he went out with Barnabas to Derbe.

21 Da de hadde forkynt evangeliet i den byen og vunnet mange disipler, vendte de tilbake til Lystra, Iconium og Antiokia,

When they had preached the Gospel to that city, and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch,

22 og styrket disiplenes sjeler, oppmuntret dem til å forbli i troen, og sa at vi må gjennom mange trengsler for å komme inn i Guds rike.

confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that through many afflictions we must enter into the Kingdom of God.

23 Da de hadde innsatt eldste for dem i hver menighet, ba de med faste og overlot dem til Herren, som de hadde kommet til tro på.

When they had appointed elders for them in every assembly, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.

24 De dro gjennom Pisidia og kom til Pamfylia.

They passed through Pisidia, and came to Pamphylia.

25 Da de hadde talt ordet i Perga, dro de ned til Attalia.

When they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia.

26 Derfra seilte de til Antiokia, hvor de var blitt overgitt til Guds nåde for det arbeidet de nå hadde fullført.

From there they sailed to Antioch, from where they had been committed to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled.

27 Da de var ankommet og hadde samlet menigheten, fortalte de alt Gud hadde gjort gjennom dem, og hvordan han hadde åpnet en troens dør for hedningene.

When they had arrived, and had gathered the assembly together, they reported all the things that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles.

28 De oppholdt seg der lenge sammen med disiplene.

They stayed there with the disciples for a long time.
