1 Hør dette ord som Yahweh har talt mot dere, Israels barn, mot hele familien som jeg førte opp fra landet Egypt:

Hear this word that Yahweh has spoken against you, children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt, saying:

2 "Kun dere har jeg utvalgt av alle slektene på jorden. Derfor vil jeg straffe dere for alle deres synder."

"You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth. Therefore I will punish you for all of your sins."

3 Går to sammen, uten at de har avtalt det?

Do two walk together, Unless they have agreed?

4 Brøler en løve i skogen uten bytte? Roper en ung løve fra sitt hi, om den ikke har fanget noe?

Will a lion roar in the thicket, When he has no prey? Does a young lion cry out of his den, If he has caught nothing?

5 Faller en fugl i en felle på jorden der ingen snare er satt for den? Springer en snare opp fra bakken når den ikke har fanget noe?

Can a bird fall in a trap on the earth, Where no snare is set for him? Does a snare spring up from the ground, When there is nothing to catch?

6 Lyder et alarmerende horn i en by uten at folket blir redde? Skjer det noe ondt i en by uten at Yahweh har gjort det?

Does the trumpet alarm sound in a city, Without the people being afraid? Does evil happen to a city, And Yahweh hasn't done it?

7 Helt sikkert, Herren Yahweh vil ikke gjøre noe uten å åpenbare sin hemmelighet for sine tjenere profetene.

Surely the Lord Yahweh will do nothing, Unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets.

8 Løven har brølt. Hvem vil ikke frykte? Herren Yahweh har talt. Hvem kan annet enn å profetere?

The lion has roared. Who will not fear? The Lord Yahweh has spoken. Who can but prophesy?

9 Forkynn i palassene i Asjdod, og i palassene i Egypts land, og si: "Samle dere på fjellene i Samaria, og se hva urolighet det er hos henne, og hva undertrykkelse de utøver."

Proclaim in the palaces at Ashdod, And in the palaces in the land of Egypt, And say, "Assemble yourselves on the mountains of Samaria, And see what unrest is in her, And what oppression is among them."

10 "De vet faktisk ikke å gjøre det rette," sier Yahweh, "de som samler vold og plyndring i sine palasser."

"Indeed they don't know to do right," says Yahweh, "Who hoard plunder and loot in their palaces."

11 Derfor sier Herren Yahweh: "En motstander skal overmanne landet; han skal rive ned deres festninger, og deres borger skal bli plyndret."

Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: "An adversary will overrun the land; And he will pull down your strongholds, And your fortresses will be plundered."

12 Så sier Yahweh: "Som hyrden berger to ben eller et ørestykke ut av løvens munn, slik skal Israels barn berges, de som sitter i Samaria på sofahjørnet og på silkedynene i sengen."

Thus says Yahweh: "As the shepherd rescues out of the mouth of the lion two legs, Or a piece of an ear, So shall the children of Israel be rescued who sit in Samaria on the corner of a couch, And on the silken cushions of a bed."

13 "Hør, og vitne mot Jakobs hus," sier Herren Yahweh, hærskarenes Gud.

"Listen, and testify against the house of Jacob," says the Lord Yahweh, the God of hosts.

14 "For den dagen jeg gjengjelder Israels overtredelser mot ham, skal jeg også gjengjelde Betels altrene; alterhornene skal kuttes av og falle til jorden.

"For in the day that I visit the transgressions of Israel on him, I will also visit the altars of Bethel; And the horns of the altar will be cut off, And fall to the ground.

15 Jeg vil slå det vinterlige huset sammen med det sommerlige huset; og husene av elfenben skal gå til grunne, og de store husene skal ta slutt," sier Yahweh.

I will strike the winter house with the summer house; And the houses of ivory will perish, And the great houses will have an end," says Yahweh.
