1 Jeg så Herren stå ved alteret, og han sa: "Slå toppen av søylene så tersklene skjelver; knus dem over hodet på dem alle. Og jeg vil drepe den siste av dem med sverdet; ingen av dem skal slippe unna, ingen av dem skal rømme.

I saw the Lord standing beside the altar, and he said, "Strike the tops of the pillars, that the thresholds may shake; and break them in pieces on the head of all of them; and I will kill the last of them with the sword: there shall not one of them flee away, and there shall not one of them escape.

2 Om de graver seg ned i dødsriket, der skal min hånd ta dem; og om de klatrer opp til himmelen, der skal jeg føre dem ned.

Though they dig into Sheol, there my hand will take them; and though they climb up to heaven, there I will bring them down.

3 Om de gjemmer seg på toppen av Karmel, skal jeg søke og ta dem ut der; og om de gjemmer seg for meg på havets bunn, der skal jeg befale slangen, og den skal bite dem.

Though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out there; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent, and it will bite them.

4 Om de går i fangenskap for sine fiender, der skal jeg befale sverdet, og det skal drepe dem. Jeg vil holde øye med dem for ondt, ikke for godt.

Though they go into captivity before their enemies, there I will command the sword, and it will kill them. I will set my eyes on them for evil, and not for good.

5 For Herren, Hærskarenes Gud, er han som rører jorden og den smelter, og alle som bor der sørger; den stiger og synker som Nilen i Egypt.

For the Lord, Yahweh of Hosts, is he who touches the land and it melts, and all who dwell in it will mourn; and it will rise up wholly like the River, and will sink again, like the River of Egypt.

6 Det er han som bygger sine haller i himmelen og har grunnlagt sin hvelving på jorden; han som kaller vannet i havet og heller det ut over jordens overflate; Yahweh er hans navn.

It is he who builds his chambers in the heavens, and has founded his vault on the earth; he who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the surface of the earth; Yahweh is his name.

7 Er dere ikke som etiopiernes barn for meg, Israels barn? sier Yahweh. Har jeg ikke ført Israel opp fra Egyptens land, filisterne fra Kaftor, og syrerne fra Kir?

Are you not like the children of the Ethiopians to me, children of Israel?" says Yahweh. "Haven't I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt, and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?

8 Se, Herrens øyne er på det syndige riket, og jeg vil ødelegge det fra jordens overflate; uten at jeg fullstendig ødelegger Jakobs hus, sier Yahweh.

Behold, the eyes of the Lord Yahweh are on the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the surface of the earth; except that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob," says Yahweh.

9 For se, jeg vil befale, og jeg vil sikte Israels hus blant alle nasjonene, som korn siktes i en sil, men ikke det minste korn skal falle på jorden.

"For, behold, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all the nations, as grain is sifted in a sieve, yet not the least kernel will fall on the earth.

10 Alle synderne blant mitt folk skal dø ved sverdet, de som sier: 'Ondskap vil ikke nå oss eller møte oss.'

All the sinners of my people will die by the sword, who say, 'Evil won't overtake nor meet us.'

11 Den dagen vil jeg reise opp Davids falne hytte og reparere sprekkene, og jeg vil gjenoppbygge ruinene og bygge den som i gamle dager.

In that day I will raise up the tent of David who is fallen, and close up its breaches, and I will raise up its ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old;

12 For å eie resten av Edom og alle nasjonene som kalles ved mitt navn, sier Herren som gjør dette.

that they may possess the remnant of Edom, and all the nations who are called by my name," says Yahweh who does this.

13 Se, dager kommer, sier Yahweh, at pløyeren skal ta igjen høsteren, og den som tråkker druer han som sår; og det vil dryppe Sød vin fra fjellene, og flyte fra høydene.

"Behold, the days come," says Yahweh, "That the plowman shall overtake the reaper, And the one treading grapes him who sows seed; And sweet wine will drip from the mountains, And flow from the hills.

14 Jeg vil føre tilbake mitt folk Israels fangenskap, og de skal gjenoppbygge de ødelagte byene og bo i dem; de skal plante vingårder og drikke vin fra dem. De skal også lage hager og spise frukten derav.

I will bring back the captivity of my people Israel, And they will rebuild the ruined cities, and inhabit them; and they will plant vineyards, and drink wine from them. They shall also make gardens, And eat the fruit of them.

15 Jeg vil plante dem i deres land, og de skal aldri mer bli rykket opp fra sitt land som jeg har gitt dem, sier Yahweh din Gud.

I will plant them on their land, And they will no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them," says Yahweh your God.
