Prestene, levittene, altså hele Levis stamme, skal ikke ha noen del eller arv sammen med Israel. De skal leve av Herrens ildofre og hans arv.

The priests the Levites, [even] all the tribe of Levi, shall have no portion nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, and his inheritance.

De skal ikke ha arv blant sine brødre; Herren er deres arv, som han har sagt til dem.

They shall have no inheritance among their brothers: Yahweh is their inheritance, as he has spoken to them.

Dette skal prestene få fra folket, fra dem som ofrer: enten det er okse eller sau, skal de gi presten bogen, kjevene og vommen.

This shall be the priests' due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep, that they shall give to the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.

De førstegrødens avlingen, av den nye vinen og av oljen, og den første av sauenes ull, skal du gi ham.

The first fruits of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, shall you give him.

For Herren din Gud har utvalgt ham blant alle dine stammer til å stå og tjene i Herrens navn, han og hans sønner for alltid.

For Yahweh your God has chosen him out of all your tribes, to stand to minister in the name of Yahweh, him and his sons for ever.

Hvis en levitt kommer fra en av dine byer i hele Israel, der han bor som fremmed, og ønsker å dra til det stedet Herren velger,

If a Levite comes from any of your gates out of all Israel, where he lives as a foreigner, and comes with all the desire of his soul to the place which Yahweh shall choose;

skal han tjene i Herrens navn, sin Gud, som alle sine brødre, levittene, som står der for Herren.

then he shall minister in the name of Yahweh his God, as all his brothers the Levites do, who stand there before Yahweh.

De skal ha lik del i maten, i tillegg til det han får fra salg av sin arv.

They shall have like portions to eat, besides that which comes of the sale of his patrimony.

Når du kommer inn i landet som Herren din Gud gir deg, skal du ikke lære å gjøre etter de motbydelige skikkene til de folkene.

When you are come into the land which Yahweh your God gives you, you shall not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

Det skal ikke finnes noen blant dere som lar sin sønn eller datter gå gjennom ilden, som driver med spådom, er spåmann, åndemaner eller trollmann,

There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer,

eller sjarmør, spør etter ånder, spåmann eller en som taler med de døde.

or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

For alle som gjør disse tingene, er avskyelige for Herren. På grunn av disse avskyelighetene driver Herren din Gud dem bort fra deg.

For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh: and because of these abominations Yahweh your God does drive them out from before you.

Du skal være helhjertet med Herren din Gud.

You shall be perfect with Yahweh your God.

Disse folkene som du skal ta landet fra, lytter til spåmenn og åndemanere, men Herren din Gud har ikke tillatt deg å gjøre slikt.

For these nations, that you shall dispossess, listen to those who practice sorcery, and to diviners; but as for you, Yahweh your God has not allowed you so to do.

Herren din Gud vil reise opp en profet for deg, fra ditt eget folk, en som meg. Ham skal dere høre på.

Yahweh your God will raise up to you a prophet from the midst of you, of your brothers, like me; to him you shall listen;

I samsvar med alt du ønsket av Herren din Gud i Horeb på forsamlingens dag, da du sa: La meg ikke igjen høre Herrens, min Guds røst, eller se denne store ild mer, for da dør jeg.

according to all that you desired of Yahweh your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of Yahweh my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I not die.

Herren sa til meg: Det er godt sagt det de har talt.

Yahweh said to me, They have well said that which they have spoken.

Jeg vil reise opp en profet for dem blant deres brødre, som deg. Jeg vil legge mine ord i hans munn, og han skal tale til dem alt det jeg befaler ham.

I will raise them up a prophet from among their brothers, like you; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.

Den som ikke vil høre på mine ord som han taler i mitt navn, skal jeg holde ansvarlig for det.

It shall happen, that whoever will not listen to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

Men den profet som taler et ord i mitt navn som jeg ikke har befalt ham å tale, eller som taler i andre guders navn, den profeten skal dø.

But the prophet, who shall speak a word presumptuously in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who shall speak in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.

Hvis du i ditt hjerte sier: Hvordan skal vi vite hvilket ord Herren ikke har talt?

If you say in your heart, How shall we know the word which Yahweh has not spoken?

Når en profet taler i Herrens navn, og det han sier ikke skjer eller kommer til å skje, da er det et ord Herren ikke har talt. Profeten har talt det i overmot; du skal ikke frykte ham.

when a prophet speaks in the name of Yahweh, if the thing doesn't follow, nor happen, that is the thing which Yahweh has not spoken: the prophet has spoken it presumptuously, you shall not be afraid of him.
