Moses og de eldste i Israel befalte folket og sa: Hold alle budene som jeg gir dere i dag.

Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandment which I command you this day.

Den dagen dere går over Jordan til landet som Herren deres Gud gir dere, skal dere reise store steiner og kalke dem:

It shall be on the day when you shall pass over the Jordan to the land which Yahweh your God gives you, that you shall set yourself up great stones, and plaster them with plaster:

og du skal skrive alle ordene i denne loven på dem, når du har gått over; slik at du kan gå inn i landet som Herren, din Gud, gir deg, et land som flyter av melk og honning, slik Herren, dine fedres Gud, har lovet deg.

and you shall write on them all the words of this law, when you are passed over; that you may go in to the land which Yahweh your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has promised you.

Når dere har gått over Jordan, skal dere reise disse steinene, som jeg befaler dere i dag, på Ebal-fjellet, og dere skal kalke dem.

It shall be, when you are passed over the Jordan, that you shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in Mount Ebal, and you shall plaster them with plaster.

Der skal du bygge et alter for Herren din Gud, et alter av steiner; du skal ikke bruke jern på dem.

There shall you build an altar to Yahweh your God, an altar of stones: you shall lift up no iron [tool] on them.

Du skal bygge Herrens, din Guds, alter av ukutt stein, og der skal du ofre brennoffer til Herren din Gud.

You shall build the altar of Yahweh your God of uncut stones; and you shall offer burnt offerings thereon to Yahweh your God:

Du skal ofre fredsoffer og spise der, og du skal glede deg foran Herren din Gud.

and you shall sacrifice peace-offerings, and shall eat there; and you shall rejoice before Yahweh your God.

Du skal skrive alle ordene i denne loven meget tydelig på steinene.

You shall write on the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

Moses og prestene, levittene, talte til hele Israel og sa: Vær stille og lytt, Israel: i dag er du blitt Herrens, din Guds, folk.

Moses and the priests the Levites spoke to all Israel, saying, Keep silence, and listen, Israel: this day you are become the people of Yahweh your God.

Du skal derfor lyde Herrens, din Guds, stemme og holde hans bud og forskrifter, som jeg befaler deg i dag.

You shall therefore obey the voice of Yahweh your God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command you this day.

Moses påla folket samme dag og sa:

Moses charged the people the same day, saying,

Disse skal stå på Gerizim-fjellet for å velsigne folket når dere har gått over Jordan: Simeon, Levi, Juda, Issakar, Josef og Benjamin.

These shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people, when you are passed over the Jordan: Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin.

Disse skal stå på Ebal-fjellet for forbannelsen: Ruben, Gad, Asjer, Sebulon, Dan og Naftali.

These shall stand on Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.

Levittene skal svare og si til alle Israels menn med høy røst:

The Levites shall answer, and tell all the men of Israel with a loud voice,

Forbannet er den som lager et utskåret eller støpt bilde, en styggedom for Herren, et håndverksarbeid, og setter det opp i hemmelighet. Og hele folket skal svare og si: Amen.

Cursed be the man who makes an engraved or molten image, an abomination to Yahweh, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret. All the people shall answer and say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som forakter sin far eller mor. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he who sets light by his father or his mother. All the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som flytter sin nabos grensestein. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he who removes his neighbor's landmark. All the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som forviller en blind på veien. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he who makes the blind to wander out of the way. All the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som vrenger retten for den fremmede, den farløse og enken. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he who wrests the justice [due] to the foreigner, fatherless, and widow. All the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som ligger med sin fars hustru, for han har avdekket sin fars kappe. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he who lies with his father's wife, because he has uncovered his father's skirt. All the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som ligger med noe slags dyr. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he who lies with any manner of animal. All the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som ligger med sin søster, datteren av sin far eller sin mor. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. All the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som ligger med sin svigermor. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he who lies with his mother-in-law. All the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som slår sin nabo i hemmelighet. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he who strikes his neighbor in secret. All the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som tar imot bestikkelse for å drepe en uskyldig. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he who takes a bribe to kill an innocent person. All the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som ikke bekrefter ordene i denne loven for å gjøre etter dem. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he who doesn't confirm the words of this law to do them. All the people shall say, Amen.
