Moses gikk og talte disse ordene til hele Israel.

Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel.

Han sa til dem: I dag er jeg hundre og tjue år gammel; jeg kan ikke lenger gå inn og ut, og Herren har sagt til meg: Du skal ikke gå over denne Jordan.

He said to them, I am one hundred twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: and Yahweh has said to me, You shall not go over this Jordan.

Herren din Gud vil gå foran deg; han vil ødelegge disse nasjonene for deg, og du skal ta landet fra dem. Josva vil gå foran deg, slik Herren har sagt.

Yahweh your God, he will go over before you; he will destroy these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess them: [and] Joshua, he shall go over before you, as Yahweh has spoken.

Herren vil gjøre med dem som han gjorde med Sihon og Og, amorittkongen, og deres land, som han ødela.

Yahweh will do to them as he did to Sihon and to Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their land; whom he destroyed.

Herren vil overgi dem til dere, og dere skal gjøre med dem som jeg har befalt dere.

Yahweh will deliver them up before you, and you shall do to them according to all the commandment which I have commanded you.

Vær sterke og modige, vær ikke redde eller skremt av dem, for Herren din Gud går med deg; han vil ikke svikte deg eller forlate deg.

Be strong and of good courage, don't be afraid, nor be scared of them: for Yahweh your God, he it is who does go with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you.

Moses kalte på Josva og sa til ham, foran hele Israel: Vær sterk og modig, for du skal føre dette folket inn i det landet som Herren har lovet deres fedre å gi dem, og du skal gi det til dem i arv.

Moses called to Joshua, and said to him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of good courage: for you shall go with this people into the land which Yahweh has sworn to their fathers to give them; and you shall cause them to inherit it.

Herren går foran deg, han vil være med deg, han vil ikke svikte deg eller forlate deg. Vær ikke redd og bli ikke motløs.

Yahweh, he it is who does go before you; he will be with you, he will not fail you, neither forsake you: don't be afraid, neither be dismayed.

Moses skrev ned denne loven og ga den til prestene, Levis sønner, som bar Herrens paktsark, og til alle Israels eldste.

Moses wrote this law, and delivered it to the priests the sons of Levi, who bore the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and to all the elders of Israel.

Moses befalte dem og sa: Ved slutten av hvert syvende år, i frigivelsesåret, under løvhyttefesten,

Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of [every] seven years, in the set time of the year of release, in the feast of tents,

når hele Israel kommer for å vise seg foran Herren din Gud på det stedet han velger, skal dere lese denne loven opp for hele Israel så de hører den.

when all Israel is come to appear before Yahweh your God in the place which he shall choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing.

Samle folket, mennene, kvinnene og barna, og de fremmede som bor i byene deres, slik at de kan høre og lære å frykte Herren deres Gud og følge alle ordene i denne loven.

Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones, and your foreigner who is within your gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear Yahweh your God, and observe to do all the words of this law;

Og deres barn, som ikke kjenner loven, skal høre og lære å frykte Herren deres Gud så lenge dere lever i det landet som dere nå går over Jordan for å ta i eie.

and that their children, who have not known, may hear, and learn to fear Yahweh your God, as long as you live in the land where you go over the Jordan to possess it.

Herren sa til Moses: Se, dine dager nærmer seg, og du skal dø. Kall på Josva, og still dere frem i møteteltet, så jeg kan gi ham en befaling. Moses og Josva gikk og stilte seg frem i møteteltet.

Yahweh said to Moses, Behold, your days approach that you must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, that I may give him a charge. Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tent of meeting.

Herren viste seg i teltet i en skystøtte, og skystøtten sto ved inngangen til teltet.

Yahweh appeared in the Tent in a pillar of cloud: and the pillar of cloud stood over the door of the Tent.

Herren sa til Moses: Se, du skal hvile med dine fedre, og dette folket vil reise seg og følge fremmede guder i det landet de går til, og de vil forlate meg og bryte min pakt som jeg har inngått med dem.

Yahweh said to Moses, Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers; and this people will rise up, and play the prostitute after the strange gods of the land, where they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.

Da skal min vrede flamme opp mot dem den dagen, og jeg vil forlate dem og skjule mitt ansikt for dem, så de blir fortært, og mange ulykker og trengsler vil ramme dem. Da skal de si: Har ikke disse ulykkene rammet oss fordi vår Gud ikke er blant oss?

Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall come on them; so that they will say in that day, Haven't these evils come on us because our God is not among us?

Jeg vil sannelig skjule mitt ansikt den dagen på grunn av all den ondskapen de har gjort ved å vende seg til andre guder.

I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evil which they shall have worked, in that they are turned to other gods.

Skriv derfor denne sangen og lær den til Israels barn, legg den i munnen deres, slik at denne sangen kan være et vitne mot Israel.

Now therefore write you this song for you, and teach you it the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.

For når jeg har ført dem inn i det landet jeg har lovet deres fedre, som flyter med melk og honning, og de har spist seg mette og er blitt fete, da vil de vende seg til andre guder og tjene dem, forakte meg og bryte min pakt.

For when I shall have brought them into the land which I swore to their fathers, flowing with milk and honey, and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and grown fat; then will they turn to other gods, and serve them, and despise me, and break my covenant.

Og når mange ulykker og trengsler kommer over dem, da skal denne sangen vitne mot dem som et vitne, for den skal ikke bli glemt fra deres etterkommeres munn. For jeg kjenner deres tanker, som de har hatt i dag, selv før jeg har ført dem inn i det landet jeg har lovet.

It shall happen, when many evils and troubles are come on them, that this song shall testify before them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they frame this day, before I have brought them into the land which I swore.

Så Moses skrev denne sangen samme dag og lærte den Israels barn.

So Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children of Israel.

Han ga Josva, Nuns sønn, en befaling og sa: Vær sterk og modig, for du skal føre Israels barn inn i det landet jeg har lovet dem, og jeg vil være med deg.

He gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of good courage; for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land which I swore to them: and I will be with you.

Da Moses hadde skrevet ned ordene i denne loven i en bok og fullført det,

It happened, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,

befalte han Levittene, som bar Herrens paktsark, og sa:

that Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, saying,

Ta denne lovboken og legg den ved siden av Herrens, deres Guds, paktsark, så den kan være der som et vitne mot dere.

Take this book of the law, and put it by the side of the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your God, that it may be there for a witness against you.

For jeg kjenner deres opprør og deres stahet. Se, allerede mens jeg lever blant dere i dag, har dere vært opprørske mot Herren; hvor mye mer etter min død?

For I know your rebellion, and your stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, you have been rebellious against Yahweh; and how much more after my death?

Samle til meg alle deres stammeledere og embetsmenn, så jeg kan tale disse ordene til dem og kalle himmel og jord til vitne imot dem.

Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to witness against them.

For jeg vet at etter min død vil dere fullstendig forderve dere og vike bort fra den vei jeg har befalt dere, og da skal ondt ramme dere i de siste dager, fordi dere gjør det som er ondt i Herrens øyne, og provoserer ham til vrede gjennom det dere gjør.

For I know that after my death you will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will happen to you in the latter days; because you will do that which is evil in the sight of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.

Moses fremførte ordene i denne sangen for hele Israels forsamling, til de var fullført.

Moses spoke in the ears of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song, until they were finished.
