1 Da sa Herren til Moses: "Gå til Farao og si til ham: ‘Så sier Herren, hebreernes Gud: La mitt folk dra, så de kan tjene meg.

Then Yahweh said to Moses, "Go in to Pharaoh, and tell him, 'This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: "Let my people go, that they may serve me.

2 For hvis du nekter å la dem gå, og fortsatt holder dem tilbake,

For if you refuse to let them go, and hold them still,

3 se, da skal Herrens hånd være over din buskap som er ute på marken, over hester, esler, kameler, kyr og sauer med en svært alvorlig pest.

behold, the hand of Yahweh is on your cattle which are in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the herds, and on the flocks with a very grievous pestilence.

4 Herren vil skille mellom Israels kveg og Egypts kveg, og ingenting skal dø av det som tilhører Israels barn.’»

Yahweh will make a distinction between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt; and there shall nothing die of all that belongs to the children of Israel."'"

5 Herren fastsatte en tid og sa: "I morgen skal Herren gjøre dette i landet."

Yahweh appointed a set time, saying, "Tomorrow Yahweh shall do this thing in the land."

6 Herren gjorde dette neste dag, og all Egypts buskap døde, men ikke ett av Israels barns buskap døde.

Yahweh did that thing on the next day; and all the cattle of Egypt died, but of the cattle of the children of Israel, not one died.

7 Farao undersøkte saken, og se, ikke ett av Israels buskap var dødt. Men Faraos hjerte var hardt, og han lot ikke folket gå.

Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not so much as one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was stubborn, and he didn't let the people go.

8 Herren sa til Moses og Aron: "Ta en håndfull aske fra ovnen, og la Moses strø den mot himmelen for Faraos øyne.

Yahweh said to Moses and to Aaron, "Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the sky in the sight of Pharaoh.

9 Det skal bli til fint støv over hele Egyptens land og bli til byller som bryter ut på mennesker og dyr over hele Egypt.

It shall become small dust over all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with boils on man and on animal, throughout all the land of Egypt."

10 De tok aske fra ovnen og stilte seg foran Farao; og Moses strødde den opp mot himmelen, og det ble til byller som brøt ut på mennesker og dyr.

They took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward the sky; and it became a boil breaking forth with boils on man and on animal.

11 Magiere kunne ikke stå foran Moses på grunn av byllene, for byllene var på magiene og på alle egypterne.

The magicians couldn't stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boils were on the magicians, and on all the Egyptians.

12 Herren forherdet Faraos hjerte, og han lyttet ikke til dem, slik Herren hadde sagt til Moses.

Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he didn't listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken to Moses.

13 Herren sa til Moses: "Stå tidlig opp om morgenen og still deg foran Farao og si til ham: ‘Så sier Herren, hebreernes Gud: La mitt folk dra, så de kan tjene meg.

Yahweh said to Moses, "Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and tell him, 'This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: "Let my people go, that they may serve me.

14 For denne gangen vil jeg sende alle mine plager mot ditt hjerte, mot dine tjenere og mot ditt folk, for at du skal vite at det ikke finnes noen som meg på hele jorden.

For this time I will send all my plagues against your heart, against your officials, and against your people; that you may know that there is none like me in all the earth.

15 For nå kunne jeg ha løftet min hånd og slått deg og ditt folk med pest, og du ville vært utryddet fra jorden.

For now I would have put forth my hand, and struck you and your people with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the earth;

16 Men virkelig, for denne grunn har jeg latt deg stå, for å vise deg min makt, og at mitt navn skal bli forkynt over hele jorden.

but indeed for this cause I have made you stand: to show you my power, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth;

17 Likevel opphøyer du deg mot mitt folk, fordi du nekter å la dem dra.

as you still exalt yourself against my people, that you won't let them go.

18 Se, i morgen ved denne tiden vil jeg la det regne en svært alvorlig hagl, slik som ikke har vært i Egypt fra den dagen det ble grunnlagt og inntil nå.

Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as has not been in Egypt since the day it was founded even until now.

19 Kommandoer derfor at all din buskap og alt du har på marken, bringes i ly. Hver mann og dyr som finnes på marken, og ikke bringes hjem, skal hagl komme over, og de skal dø.’»

Now therefore command that all of your cattle and all that you have in the field be brought into shelter. Every man and animal that is found in the field, and isn't brought home, the hail shall come down on them, and they shall die."'"

20 De blant Faraos tjenere som fryktet Herrens ord, fikk sine tjenere og sin buskap til å flykte inn i husene.

Those who feared the word of Yahweh among the servants of Pharaoh made their servants and their cattle flee into the houses.

21 Men de som ikke brydde seg om Herrens ord, lot sine tjenere og sin buskap bli igjen på marken.

Whoever didn't regard the word of Yahweh left his servants and his cattle in the field.

22 Herren sa til Moses: "Rekk hånden opp mot himmelen, så det blir hagl over hele Egyptens land, over mennesker, dyr og alle markens planter i hele Egypt."

Yahweh said to Moses, "Stretch forth your hand toward the sky, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, on man, and on animal, and on every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt."

23 Moses strakte staven sin mot himmelen, og Herren sendte torden og hagl, og ild fór ned til jorden. Herren lot det hagle over Egyptens land.

Moses stretched forth his rod toward the heavens, and Yahweh sent thunder, hail, and lightning flashed down to the earth. Yahweh rained hail on the land of Egypt.

24 Det var svært alvorlig hagl, og ild blandet med hagl, slik som ikke hadde vært i hele Egyptens land siden det ble en nasjon.

So there was very severe hail, and lightning mixed with the hail, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.

25 Haglet slo ned i hele Egyptens land alt som var på marken, både mennesker og dyr, og haglet slo ned hver urt på marken og brakk hvert tre på marken.

The hail struck throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and animal; and the hail struck every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field.

26 Bare i landet Gosen, hvor Israels barn var, var det ingen hagl.

Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, there was no hail.

27 Farao sendte bud etter Moses og Aron og sa til dem: "Denne gangen har jeg syndet. Herren er rettferdig, og jeg og mitt folk er onde.

Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, "I have sinned this time. Yahweh is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.

28 Be til Herren; for nå har det vært nok av de mektige tordenskrall og hagl. Jeg skal la dere dra, og dere skal ikke bli lenger her."

Pray to Yahweh; for there has been enough of mighty thunderings and hail. I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer."

29 Moses sa til ham: "Så snart jeg har gått ut av byen, vil jeg løfte mine hender til Herren. Torden vil opphøre, og det skal ikke være mer hagl, for at du skal vite at jorden tilhører Herren.

Moses said to him, "As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands to Yahweh. The thunders shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that you may know that the earth is Yahweh's.

30 Men når det gjelder deg og dine tjenere, vet jeg at dere ennå ikke frykter Herren Gud."

But as for you and your servants, I know that you don't yet fear Yahweh God."

31 Lin og bygg ble slått ned, for bygget var modent og linen blomstret.

The flax and the barley were struck, for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was in bloom.

32 Men hveten og spelt ble ikke slått ned, for de var ikke modnet.

But the wheat and the spelt were not struck, for they had not grown up.

33 Moses dro ut av byen, bort fra Farao, og løftet sine hender til Herren; og torden og hagl opphørte, og regnet falt ikke på jorden mer.

Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands to Yahweh; and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured on the earth.

34 Da Farao så at regnet og haglet og torden hadde opphørt, syndet han igjen og herdet sitt hjerte, både han og hans tjenere.

When Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.

35 Faraos hjerte var herdet, og han lot ikke Israels barn dra, slik Herren hadde sagt gjennom Moses.

The heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he didn't let the children of Israel go, just as Yahweh had spoken through Moses.
