1 Det skjedde i det sjuende året, i den femte måneden, på den tiende dagen i måneden, at noen av de eldste i Israel kom for å spørre Herren, og de satte seg foran meg.

It happened in the seventh year, in the fifth [month], the tenth [day] of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of Yahweh, and sat before me.

2 Herrens ord kom til meg og sa:

The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

3 Menneskesønn, tal til Israels eldste og si til dem: Så sier Herren Gud: Er det for å spørre meg dere har kommet? Så sant jeg lever, sier Herren Gud, jeg vil ikke bli spurt av dere.

Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and tell them, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Is it to inquire of me that you have come? As I live, says the Lord Yahweh, I will not be inquired of by you.

4 Vil du dømme dem, menneskesønn, vil du dømme dem? Få dem til å kjenne fedrenes avskyelige gjerninger.

Will you judge them, son of man, will you judge them? Cause them to know the abominations of their fathers;

5 Og si til dem: Så sier Herren Gud: Den dagen jeg valgte Israel og svor til Jakob hus' avkom, og gjorde meg kjent for dem i Egyptens land, da jeg svor til dem og sa: Jeg er Herren deres Gud;

and tell them, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: In the day when I chose Israel, and swore to the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I swore to them, saying, I am Yahweh your God;

6 den dagen svor jeg til dem at jeg skulle føre dem ut av Egyptens land til et land jeg hadde utvalgt til dem, et land som flyter av melk og honning, som er alle lands herlighet.

in that day I swore to them, to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands.

7 Jeg sa til dem: Kast bort alle de avskyelige tingene fra øynene deres, og gjør dere ikke urene med Egyptens avguder; jeg er Herren deres Gud.

I said to them, Cast you away every man the abominations of his eyes, and don't defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am Yahweh your God.

8 Men de gjorde opprør mot meg, og ville ikke høre på meg; de kastet ikke bort de avskyelige tingene for øynene sine, og de forlot ikke Egyptens avguder. Da sa jeg at jeg ville utøse min vrede over dem, for å fullføre min vrede mot dem midt i Egyptens land.

But they rebelled against me, and would not listen to me; they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said I would pour out my wrath on them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

9 Men jeg handlet for mitt navn skyld, så det ikke skulle bli vanhelliget blant de nasjonene der de var, der jeg hadde gjort meg kjent for dem ved å føre dem ut av Egyptens land.

But I worked for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among which they were, in whose sight I made myself known to them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.

10 Så førte jeg dem ut av Egyptens land og tok dem med ut i ørkenen.

So I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.

11 Jeg ga dem mine forskrifter, og viste dem mine lover, som et menneske kan leve etter hvis han holder dem.

I gave them my statutes, and shown them my ordinances, which if a man do, he shall live in them.

12 Dessuten ga jeg dem mine sabbater som et tegn mellom meg og dem, for at de skulle vite at jeg er Herren som helliger dem.

Moreover also I gave them my Sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am Yahweh who sanctifies them.

13 Men Israels hus gjorde opprør mot meg i ørkenen: de fulgte ikke mine forskrifter, og de forkastet mine lover, som et menneske kan leve etter hvis han holder dem; og mine sabbater vanhelliget de stort. Da sa jeg at jeg ville utøse min vrede over dem i ørkenen for å ødelegge dem.

But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they didn't walk in my statutes, and they rejected my ordinances, which if a man keep, he shall live in them; and my Sabbaths they greatly profaned. Then I said I would pour out my wrath on them in the wilderness, to consume them.

14 Men jeg handlet for mitt navn skyld, så det ikke skulle bli vanhelliget blant de nasjonene, i hvis påsyn jeg førte dem ut.

But I worked for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them out.

15 Dessuten svor jeg til dem i ørkenen, at jeg ikke ville føre dem inn i det landet jeg hadde gitt dem, et land som flyter av melk og honning, som er alle lands herlighet;

Moreover also I swore to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands;

16 fordi de forkastet mine lover og ikke fulgte mine forskrifter, og vanhelliget mine sabbater: for deres hjerte fulgte etter deres avguder.

because they rejected my ordinances, and didn't walk in my statutes, and profaned my Sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols.

17 Likevel sparte jeg dem for mine øyne, og jeg ødela dem ikke, og jeg gjorde ikke fullstendig slutt på dem i ørkenen.

Nevertheless my eye spared them, and I didn't destroy them, neither did I make a full end of them in the wilderness.

18 Jeg sa til deres barn i ørkenen: Følg ikke deres fedres forskrifter, hold heller ikke deres lover eller gjør dere urene med deres avguder.

I said to their children in the wilderness, Don't you walk in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their ordinances, nor defile yourselves with their idols.

19 Jeg er Herren deres Gud: følg mine forskrifter, hold mine lover, og gjør dem;

I am Yahweh your God: walk in my statutes, and keep my ordinances, and do them;

20 og gjør mine sabbater til hellige; og de skal være et tegn mellom meg og dere, for at dere skal vite at jeg er Herren deres Gud.

and make my Sabbaths holy; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I am Yahweh your God.

21 Men barna gjorde også opprør mot meg; de fulgte ikke mine forskrifter, og holdt ikke mine lover for å gjøre dem, som et menneske kan leve etter hvis han holder dem; de vanhelliget mine sabbater. Da sa jeg at jeg ville utøse min vrede over dem for å fullføre min harme mot dem i ørkenen.

But the children rebelled against me; they didn't walk in my statutes, neither kept my ordinances to do them, which if a man do, he shall live in them; they profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath on them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.

22 Likevel trakk jeg min hånd tilbake, og handlet for mitt navn skyld, for at det ikke skulle bli vanhelliget blant de nasjonene, i hvis påsyn jeg førte dem ut.

Nevertheless I withdrew my hand, and worked for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them forth.

23 Dessuten svor jeg til dem i ørkenen, at jeg ville spre dem blant nasjonene og spre dem gjennom landene;

Moreover I swore to them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations, and disperse them through the countries;

24 fordi de ikke hadde fulgt mine forskrifter, men hadde forkastet mine lover, og vanhelliget mine sabbater, og deres øyne fulgte etter deres fedres avguder.

because they had not executed my ordinances, but had rejected my statutes, and had profaned my Sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.

25 Dessuten ga jeg dem forskrifter som ikke var gode, og lover de ikke kunne leve etter;

Moreover also I gave them statutes that were not good, and ordinances in which they should not live;

26 og jeg lot dem bli urene med sine egne gaver, ved at de lot alt liv som åpner morslivet, gå gjennom [ilden], for at jeg skulle kunne gjøre det øde, for at de skulle vite at jeg er Herren.

and I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through [the fire] all that opens the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am Yahweh.

27 Derfor, menneskesønn, tal til Israels hus, og si til dem: Så sier Herren Gud: Endog i dette har fedrene deres spottet meg, ved at de handlet troløst mot meg.

Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and tell them, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: In this moreover have your fathers blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me.

28 For da jeg førte dem inn i landet, som jeg hadde svoret å gi dem, så de hver høy bakke og hvert tett tre, der de ofret sine ofre, og der de la fram sine krenkende gaver; der laget de også sine velduftende røkelsen, og øste ut sine drikkofre.

For when I had brought them into the land, which I swore to give to them, then they saw every high hill, and every thick tree, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering; there also they made their sweet savor, and they poured out there their drink-offerings.

29 Deretter sa jeg til dem: Hva betyr den høye plassen dere går til? Så ble navnet på den kalt Bamah, og det heter slik til denne dag.

Then I said to them, What means the high place whereunto you go? So the name of it is called Bamah to this day.

30 Derfor, si til Israels hus: Så sier Herren Gud: Forurenser dere dere på samme vis som deres fedre gjorde? og driver dere hor etter deres avskyeligheter?

Therefore tell the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Do you pollute yourselves after the manner of your fathers? and play you the prostitute after their abominations?

31 og når dere frembærer deres gaver, når dere lar deres sønner gå gjennom ilden, forurenser dere dere med alle deres avguder til denne dag? og skal jeg bli spurt av dere, Israels hus? Så sant jeg lever, sier Herren Gud, jeg vil ikke bli spurt av dere.

and when you offer your gifts, when you make your sons to pass through the fire, do you pollute yourselves with all your idols to this day? and shall I be inquired of by you, house of Israel? As I live, says the Lord Yahweh, I will not be inquired of by you;

32 Og det som kommer inn i deres sinn, det skal absolutt ikke skje, når dere sier: Vi vil være som nasjonene, som slektene i landene, for å tjene tre og stein.

and that which comes into your mind shall not be at all, in that you say, We will be as the nations, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.

33 Så sant jeg lever, sier Herren Gud, med en mektig hånd og en utstrakt arm og utøst harme, vil jeg være konge over dere.

As I live, says the Lord Yahweh, surely with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out, will I be king over you:

34 Og jeg vil føre dere ut fra folkene, og vil samle dere fra landene der dere er spredt, med en mektig hånd og en utstrakt arm og utøst harme;

and I will bring you out from the peoples, and will gather you out of the countries in which you are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out;

35 og jeg vil føre dere inn i folkens ørken, og der vil jeg gå i rette med dere ansikt til ansikt.

and I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there will I enter into judgment with you face to face.

36 Slik som jeg gikk i rette med fedrene deres i Egyptens lands ørken, så vil jeg gå i rette med dere, sier Herren Gud.

Like as I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I enter into judgment with you, says the Lord Yahweh.

37 Jeg vil la dere passere under staven, og jeg vil bringe dere inn i stavens bånd.

I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant;

38 Og jeg vil rense ut fra blant dere de opprørske og de som synder mot meg; jeg vil føre dem ut fra det landet de bor i, men de skal ikke komme inn i Israels land: og dere skal vite at jeg er Herren.

and I will purge out from among you the rebels, and those who disobey against me; I will bring them forth out of the land where they sojourn, but they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and you shall know that I am Yahweh.

39 Når det gjelder dere, Israels hus, så sier Herren Gud: Gå dere, tjen hver enkelt sine avguder, og heretter også, hvis dere ikke vil høre på meg; men mitt hellige navn skal dere ikke lenger vanhellige med deres gaver og med deres avguder.

As for you, house of Israel, thus says the Lord Yahweh: Go you, serve everyone his idols, and hereafter also, if you will not listen to me; but my holy name shall you no more profane with your gifts, and with your idols.

40 For på mitt hellige fjell, på Israels fjells høyde, sier Herren Gud, der skal hele Israels hus, alle sammen, tjene meg i landet: der vil jeg akseptere dem, og der vil jeg kreve deres offer, og førstegrøden av deres gaver, med alle deres hellige ting.

For in my holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, says the Lord Yahweh, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them, serve me in the land: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the first fruits of your offerings, with all your holy things.

41 Som en velduft vil jeg akseptere dere, når jeg fører dere ut fra folkene, og samler dere fra landene der dere er spredt; og jeg vil helliges i dere i nasjonenes påsyn.

As a sweet savor will I accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples, and gather you out of the countries in which you have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you in the sight of the nations.

42 Dere skal vite at jeg er Herren, når jeg fører dere inn i Israels land, til det landet jeg svor å gi til deres fedre.

You shall know that I am Yahweh, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country which I swore to give to your fathers.

43 Der skal dere huske deres veier og alle deres gjerninger, der dere har gjort dere urene; og dere skal avsky dere selv i egne øyne for all den ondskap dere har gjort.

There shall you remember your ways, and all your doings, in which you have polluted yourselves; and you shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that you have committed.

44 Dere skal vite at jeg er Herren, når jeg handler med dere for mitt navn skyld, ikke etter deres onde veier, heller ikke etter deres korrupte gjerninger, Israels hus, sier Herren Gud.

You shall know that I am Yahweh, when I have dealt with you for my name's sake, not according to your evil ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, you house of Israel, says the Lord Yahweh.

45 Herrens ord kom til meg og sa:

The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

46 Menneskesønn, vend ditt ansikt mot sør, og rett [ditt ord] mot sør, og profeter mot skogens mark i sør;

Son of man, set your face toward the south, and drop [your word] toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the field in the South;

47 og si til skogen i sør: Hør Herrens ord: Så sier Herren Gud, Se, jeg vil sette opp en ild i deg, og den skal fortære hvert grønt tre i deg, og hvert tørt tre: den flammete flammen skal ikke bli slukket, og alle ansikter fra sør til nord skal brennes av den.

and tell the forest of the South, Hear the word of Yahweh: Thus says the Lord Yahweh, Behold, I will kindle a fire in you, and it shall devour every green tree in you, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burnt thereby.

48 Alt kjød skal se at jeg, Herren, har antent den; den skal ikke bli slukket.

All flesh shall see that I, Yahweh, have kindled it; it shall not be quenched.

49 Så sa jeg, Å Herre Gud! de sier om meg, Er ikke han en som taler i lignelser?

Then said I, Ah Lord Yahweh! they say of me, Isn't he a speaker of parables?
