1 Og Herrens ord kom til meg, og sa,

Moreover the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

2 Du menneskesønn, vil du dømme, vil du dømme den bloddryppende byen? Så la henne få vite alle sine avskyelige handlinger.

You, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? then cause her to know all her abominations.

3 Du skal si: Så sier Herren Gud: En by som utgyter blod i sitt indre for at hennes tid skal komme, og som lager avguder for å gjøre seg uren!

You shall say, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: A city that sheds blood in the midst of her, that her time may come, and that makes idols against herself to defile her!

4 Du har blitt skyldig ved det blodet du har utøst, og du har blitt uren ved de avgudene du har laget; og du har ført dine dager nærmere, og nådd dine år: derfor har jeg gjort deg til spott blant folkene, og til hån blant alle landene.

You have become guilty in your blood that you have shed, and are defiled in your idols which you have made; and you have caused your days to draw near, and are come even to your years: therefore have I made you a reproach to the nations, and a mocking to all the countries.

5 De som er nær, og de som er langt borte fra deg, skal spotte deg, du beryktede og fulle av opprør.

Those who are near, and those who are far from you, shall mock you, you infamous one [and] full of tumult.

6 Se, Israels fyrster, hver etter sin makt, har vært i deg for å utgyte blod.

Behold, the princes of Israel, everyone according to his power, have been in you to shed blood.

7 Hos deg har de sett ned på far og mor; i ditt midte har de undertrykket de fremmede; hos deg har de gjort urett mot den farløse og enken.

In you have they set light by father and mother; in the midst of you have they dealt by oppression with the foreigner; in you have they wronged the fatherless and the widow.

8 Du har foraktet mine hellige ting og vanhelliget mine sabbater.

You have despised my holy things, and have profaned my Sabbaths.

9 Bakvaskere har vært i deg for å utgyte blod; og hos deg har de spist på fjellene: i ditt midte har de gjort skamløshet.

Slanderous men have been in you to shed blood; and in you they have eaten on the mountains: in the midst of you they have committed lewdness.

10 Hos deg har de avdekket sine fedres nakenhet; hos deg har de ydmyket henne som var uren i sin urenhet.

In you have they uncovered their fathers' nakedness; in you have they humbled her who was unclean in her impurity.

11 En har begått avskyelighet med sin nabos kone; en annen har skammelig vanhelliget sin svigerdatter; og en annen hos deg har ydmyket sin egen søster, sin fars datter.

One has committed abomination with his neighbor's wife; and another has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law; and another in you has humbled his sister, his father's daughter.

12 Hos deg har de tatt bestikkelser for å utgyte blod; du har tatt renter og øket fortjenesten, og du har grådige vunnet av dine naboer ved undertrykkelse, og har glemt meg, sier Herren Gud.

In you have they taken bribes to shed blood; you have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained of your neighbors by oppression, and have forgotten me, says the Lord Yahweh.

13 Se, derfor har jeg slått hånden min mot din uærlige vinning som du har gjort, og mot ditt blod som har vært i ditt midte.

Behold, therefore, I have struck my hand at your dishonest gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in the midst of you.

14 Kan ditt hjerte holde ut, eller kan dine hender være sterke, i de dager jeg skal handle med deg? Jeg, Herren, har talt det, og vil gjøre det.

Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with you? I, Yahweh, have spoken it, and will do it.

15 Jeg vil spre dere blant folkene og sprede dere gjennom landene; og jeg vil konsumere deres urenhet ut av dere.

I will scatter you among the nations, and disperse you through the countries; and I will consume your filthiness out of you.

16 Du skal bli vanhelliget i deg selv foran øynene til nasjonene; og du skal vite at jeg er Herren.

You shall be profaned in yourself, in the sight of the nations; and you shall know that I am Yahweh.

17 Herrens ord kom til meg, og sa,

The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

18 Menneskesønn, Israels hus er blitt slagg for meg: alle er messing og tinn og jern og bly i ovnens midte; de er slagg av sølv.

Son of man, the house of Israel is become dross to me: all of them are brass and tin and iron and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are the dross of silver.

19 Derfor, så sier Herren Gud: Fordi dere alle er blitt slagg, se, vil jeg samle dere midt i Jerusalem.

Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: Because you are all become dross, therefore, behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.

20 Slik de samler sølv og messing og jern og bly og tinn midt i ovnen, for å blåse ild på det, for å smelte det; slik vil jeg samle dere i min vrede og harme, og vil legge dere der og smelte dere.

As they gather silver and brass and iron and lead and tin into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire on it, to melt it; so will I gather you in my anger and in my wrath, and I will lay you there, and melt you.

21 Ja, jeg vil samle dere og blåse på dere med ilden av min harme, og dere skal smelte midt i den.

Yes, I will gather you, and blow on you with the fire of my wrath, and you shall be melted in the midst of it.

22 Som sølv smeltes i ovnens midte, slik skal dere smeltes i midten av den; og dere skal vite at jeg, Herren, har utøst min harme over dere.

As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so shall you be melted in the midst of it; and you shall know that I, Yahweh, have poured out my wrath on you.

23 Herrens ord kom til meg, og sa,

The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

24 Menneskesønn, si til henne: Du er et land som ikke er renset, heller ikke har fått regn på vredens dag.

Son of man, tell her, You are a land that is not cleansed, nor rained on in the day of indignation.

25 Det er en sammensvergelse av profetene hennes midt i den, lik en brølende løve som river byttet: de har fortært sjeler; de tar skatter og kostbare ting; de har gjort mange enker i midt i den.

There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst of it, like a roaring lion ravening the prey: they have devoured souls; they take treasure and precious things; they have made her widows many in the midst of it.

26 Prestene hennes har gjort vold mot min lov og har vanhelliget mine hellige ting: de har ikke skilt mellom det hellige og det vanlige, heller ikke har de fått folk til å skille mellom det urene og det rene, og har skjult sitt ansikt fra mine sabbater, og jeg blir vanhelliget blant dem.

Her priests have done violence to my law, and have profaned my holy things: they have made no distinction between the holy and the common, neither have they caused men to discern between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my Sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.

27 Fyrstene hennes i midten av den er som ulver som river byttet, for å utgyte blod, og for å ødelegge sjeler, for å skaffe seg uærlig vinning.

Her princes in the midst of it are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, [and] to destroy souls, that they may get dishonest gain.

28 Profetene hennes har kalket for dem med hvitkalk, sett falske syner og spådd løgner for dem, og sagt: Så sier Herren Gud, når Herren ikke har talt.

Her prophets have daubed for them with whitewash, seeing false visions, and divining lies to them, saying, Thus says the Lord Yahweh, when Yahweh has not spoken.

29 Folket i landet har brukt undertrykkelse, og utøvd ran; ja, de har plaget de fattige og trengende, og har undertrykt de fremmede urettferdig.

The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery; yes, they have vexed the poor and needy, and have oppressed the foreigner wrongfully.

30 Jeg lette etter en mann blant dem, som skulle bygge opp muren, og stå i gapet foran meg for landet, for at jeg skulle ikke ødelegge det; men jeg fant ingen.

I sought for a man among them, who should build up the wall, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found none.

31 Derfor har jeg utøst min vrede over dem; jeg har fortært dem med ilden av min harme: jeg har brakt deres egne veier over deres hoder, sier Herren Gud.

Therefore have I poured out my indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I brought on their heads, says the Lord Yahweh.
