1 Han sa til meg: Menneskesønn, spis det du finner; spis denne bokrullen, og gå og tal til Israels hus.

He said to me, Son of man, eat that which you find; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.

2 Så åpnet jeg munnen, og han fikk meg til å spise bokrullen.

So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat the scroll.

3 Han sa til meg: Menneskesønn, la magen din spise, og fyll dine innvoller med denne bokrullen som jeg gir deg. Så spiste jeg den, og den var i min munn søt som honning.

He said to me, Son of man, cause your belly to eat, and fill your bowels with this scroll that I give you. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

4 Han sa til meg: Menneskesønn, gå, gå til Israels hus og tal med mine ord til dem.

He said to me, Son of man, go, get you to the house of Israel, and speak with my words to them.

5 For du er ikke sendt til et folk med fremmede tale og vanskelig språk, men til Israels hus.

For you are not sent to a people of a strange speech and of a hard language, but to the house of Israel;

6 Ikke til mange folkeslag med fremmede tale og vanskelig språk, hvis ord du ikke kan forstå. Sannelig, hvis jeg hadde sendt deg til dem, ville de hørt på deg.

not to many peoples of a strange speech and of a hard language, whose words you can not understand. Surely, if I sent you to them, they would listen to you.

7 Men Israels hus vil ikke høre på deg, for de vil ikke høre på meg. Hele Israels hus er harde i pannen og har et stivt hjerte.

But the house of Israel will not listen to you; for they will not listen to me: for all the house of Israel are of hard forehead and of a stiff heart.

8 Se, jeg har gjort ansiktet ditt hardt mot deres ansikt, og pannen din hard mot deres panne.

Behold, I have made your face hard against their faces, and your forehead hard against their foreheads.

9 Som en diamant hardere enn flint har jeg gjort pannen din. Vær ikke redd for dem, og la deg ikke skremme av dem, selv om de er et opprørsk hus.

As an adamant harder than flint have I made your forehead: don't be afraid of them, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.

10 Han sa også til meg: Menneskesønn, alle mine ord som jeg taler til deg, motta i ditt hjerte og hør med dine ører.

Moreover he said to me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak to you receive in your heart, and hear with your ears.

11 Gå, gå til de bortførte, til ditt folks barn, og tal til dem og si: Så sier Herren Gud, enten de vil høre eller ei.

Go, get you to them of the captivity, to the children of your people, and speak to them, and tell them, Thus says the Lord Yahweh; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear.

12 Da løftet Ånden meg opp, og jeg hørte bak meg lyden av et stort brus, [som sa]: Velsignet være Herrens herlighet fra hans sted.

Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me the voice of a great rushing, [saying], Blessed be the glory of Yahweh from his place.

13 [Jeg hørte] lyden av vingene til de levende skapningene når de rørte ved hverandre, og lyden av hjulene ved siden av dem, ja, lyden av et stort brus.

[I heard] the noise of the wings of the living creatures as they touched one another, and the noise of the wheels beside them, even the noise of a great rushing.

14 Så løftet Ånden meg opp og tok meg bort, og jeg gikk i bitterhet, i min ånds heftighet, og Herrens hånd var sterk over meg.

So the Spirit lifted me up, and took me away; and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; and the hand of Yahweh was strong on me.

15 Så kom jeg til de bortførte i Tel Aviv, som bodde ved elven Kebar, der de bodde. Og jeg satt der blant dem overveldet i syv dager.

Then I came to them of the captivity at Tel Aviv, that lived by the river Chebar, and to where they lived; and I sat there overwhelmed among them seven days.

16 Det skjedde ved slutten av syv dager at Herrens ord kom til meg og sa:

It happened at the end of seven days, that the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

17 Menneskesønn, jeg har gjort deg til en vaktmann for Israels hus; derfor hør ordet fra min munn og advar dem fra meg.

Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.

18 Når jeg sier til den ugudelige: Du skal sannelig dø; og du gir ham ingen advarsel eller taler for å advare den ugudelige fra sin onde vei for å redde hans liv; den ugudelige mannen skal dø i sin ondskap, men hans blod vil jeg kreve av din hånd.

When I tell the wicked, You shall surely die; and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at your hand.

19 Men hvis du advarer den ugudelige, og han ikke vender om fra sin ugudelighet eller fra sin onde vei, skal han dø i sin ondskap, men du har frelst din sjel.

Yet if you warn the wicked, and he doesn't turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.

20 Og når en rettferdig mann vender om fra sin rettferdighet og gjør urett, og jeg legger en snublestein foran ham, skal han dø: fordi du ikke har advart ham, skal han dø i sin synd, og hans rettferdige gjerninger som han har gjort, skal ikke bli husket; men hans blod vil jeg kreve av din hånd.

Again, when a righteous man does turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die: because you have not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteous deeds which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at your hand.

21 Men hvis du advarer den rettferdige mannen om ikke å synde, og han synder ikke, skal han sannelig leve fordi han har tatt advarselen; og du har frelst din sjel.

Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man, that the righteous not sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning; and you have delivered your soul.

22 Herrens hånd var der over meg, og han sa til meg: Stå opp, gå ut i dalen, der vil jeg tale med deg.

The hand of Yahweh was there on me; and he said to me, Arise, go forth into the plain, and I will there talk with you.

23 Så sto jeg opp og gikk ut i dalen, og se, Herrens herlighet sto der, som herligheten jeg så ved elven Kebar; og jeg falt på mitt ansikt.

Then I arose, and went forth into the plain: and, behold, the glory of Yahweh stood there, as the glory which I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell on my face.

24 Da gikk Ånden inn i meg og reiste meg opp på føttene; og han talte med meg og sa til meg: Gå, lukk deg inn i ditt hus.

Then the Spirit entered into me, and set me on my feet; and he spoke with me, and said to me, Go, shut yourself within your house.

25 Men du, menneskesønn, se, de skal legge bånd på deg og binde deg med dem, og du skal ikke gå ut blant dem.

But you, son of man, behold, they shall lay bands on you, and shall bind you with them, and you shall not go out among them:

26 Og jeg vil la tungen din klistre seg til ganen din, så du blir stum og ikke kan irettesette dem, for de er et opprørsk hus.

and I will make your tongue cleave to the roof of your mouth, that you shall be mute, and shall not be to them a reprover; for they are a rebellious house.

27 Men når jeg taler med deg, vil jeg åpne din munn, og du skal si til dem: Så sier Herren Gud: Den som hører, la ham høre; og den som ikke vil, la ham la være: for de er et opprørsk hus.

But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall tell them, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: He who hears, let him hear; and he who forbears, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house.
