1 Da menneskene begynte å bli mange på jorden, og de fikk døtre,

It happened, when men began to multiply on the surface of the ground, and daughters were born to them,

2 så Guds sønner at menneskenes døtre var vakre, og de tok seg koner av dem de valgte.

that God's sons saw that men's daughters were beautiful, and they took for themselves wives of all that they chose.

3 Herren sa: "Min Ånd skal ikke bære over med mennesket til evig tid, fordi de også er kjøtt; men hans dager skal være hundre og tjue år."

Yahweh said, "My Spirit will not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; yet will his days be one hundred twenty years."

4 Nephilim var på jorden i de dager, og også senere, da Guds sønner kom til menneskenes døtre. De fødte barn med dem: det var de mektige menn fra gammelt av, menn med ry.

The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when God's sons came to men's daughters. They bore children to them: the same were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

5 Herren så at menneskenes ondskap var stor på jorden, og at alt de tenkte ut i sitt hjerte bare var ondt hele tiden.

Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6 Herren angret at han hadde skapt menneskene på jorden, og det skar ham i hjertet.

Yahweh was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart.

7 Herren sa: "Jeg vil utrydde menneskene jeg har skapt fra jordens overflate; både mennesker, dyr, krypdyr og fugler under himmelen; for jeg angrer at jeg har skapt dem."

Yahweh said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the surface of the ground; man, along with animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them."

8 Men Noah fant nåde for Herrens øyne.

But Noah found favor in Yahweh's eyes.

9 Dette er beretningen om Noahs slektsledd. Noah var en rettferdig mann, ulastelig blant sine samtidige. Noah vandret med Gud.

This is the history of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God.

10 Noah fikk tre sønner: Sem, Ham og Jafet.

11 Jorden var fordervet for Gud, og jorden var fylt med vold.

The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

12 Gud så på jorden, og den var fordervet, for alt kjøtt hadde ødelagt sin vei på jorden.

God saw the earth, and saw that it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

13 Gud sa til Noah: "Enden på alt kjøtt er kommet for meg, for jorden er fylt av vold på grunn av dem. Se, jeg vil ødelegge dem sammen med jorden.

God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

14 Lag en ark av gofertre. Du skal lage rom i arken og smøre den med bek innenfor og utenfor.

Make an ark of gopher wood. You shall make rooms in the ark, and shall seal it inside and outside with pitch.

15 Slik skal du lage den: Arkens lengde skal være tre hundre alen, bredden femti alen og høyden tretti alen.

This is how you shall make it. The length of the ark will be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

16 Du skal lage et tak på arken, og til en alen over skal du fullføre det. Du skal sette døren i siden av arken. Arken skal ha et nederst, et annet nivå og et tredje.

You shall make a roof in the ark, and to a cubit shall you finish it upward. You shall set the door of the ark in the side of it. You shall make it with lower, second, and third levels.

17 Se, jeg er i ferd med å bringe en flom med vann over jorden for å ødelegge alt kjøtt som har livspust under himmelen. Alt på jorden skal dø.

I, even, I do bring the flood of waters on this earth, to destroy all flesh having the breath of life from under the sky. Everything that is in the earth will die.

18 Men jeg vil opprette min pakt med deg. Du skal gå inn i arken, du og dine sønner, din kone og dine svigerdøtre med deg.

But I will establish my covenant with you. You shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you.

19 Av alt som lever av alt kjøtt, skal du føre to av hvert slag inn i arken for å holde dem i live med deg. De skal være hann og hunn.

Of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female.

20 Av fuglene etter sine slag, av buskapen etter sine slag, av hvert krypdyr på jorden etter sine slag, to av hvert slags skal komme til deg for å holdes i live.

Of the birds after their kind, of the cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every sort shall come to you, to keep them alive.

21 Ta med deg av all mat som spises, og samle det til deg; det skal være til mat for deg og for dem."

Take with you of all food that is eaten, and gather it to you; and it will be for food for you, and for them."

22 Noah gjorde som Gud hadde befalt ham. Han gjorde alt slik.

Thus Noah did. According to all that God commanded him, so he did.
