1 Egypts byrde. Se, Herren rir på en rask sky og kommer til Egypt; Egypts avguder skjelver i hans nærvær, og Egypts hjerte smelter i dens midte.

The burden of Egypt. Behold, Yahweh rides on a swift cloud, and comes to Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall tremble at his presence; and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it.

2 Jeg vil egge egypterne mot hverandre, og de skal kjempe hver mann mot sin bror, og hver mann mot sin nabo; by mot by og rike mot rike.

I will stir up the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight everyone against his brother, and everyone against his neighbor; city against city, [and] kingdom against kingdom.

3 Ånden til Egypt skal svikte i dens midte; jeg vil ødelegge dens råd, og de skal søke til avgudene, trollmennene, dem med åndemaning og til spåmennene.

The spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst of it; and I will destroy the counsel of it: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to those who have familiar spirits, and to the wizards.

4 Jeg vil gi egypterne over i hendene på en grusom herre, og en hard konge skal herske over dem, sier Herren, Hærskarenes Gud.

I will give over the Egyptians into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, says the Lord, Yahweh of Hosts.

5 Vannet skal svinne fra havet, og elven skal bli ødelagt og tørke ut.

The waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and become dry.

6 Elvene skal bli forurenset; Egypts bekker skal minke og tørke ut, sivet og rørgresset skal visne bort.

The rivers shall become foul; the streams of Egypt shall be diminished and dried up; the reeds and flags shall wither away.

7 Gressmarkene ved Nilen, ved Nilens kant, og alle de tilsådde markene ved Nilen, skal bli tørket opp, blåst bort og være borte.

The meadows by the Nile, by the brink of the Nile, and all the sown fields of the Nile, shall become dry, be driven away, and be no more.

8 Fiskerne skal klage, og alle som kaster krok i Nilen skal sørge, og de som sprer garn på vannet skal bli motløse.

The fishermen shall lament, and all those who cast angle into the Nile shall mourn, and those who spread nets on the waters shall languish.

9 Også de som arbeider i kjemmet lin, og de som vever hvite klær, skal bli forvirret.

Moreover those who work in combed flax, and those who weave white cloth, shall be confounded.

10 Egypts støtter skal bli knust; alle som arbeider for lønn, skal sørge i sinnet.

The pillars [of Egypt] shall be broken in pieces; all those who work for hire [shall be] grieved in soul.

11 Fyrstene i Zoan er blitt tåpelige; de klokeste rådgiverne til farao er blitt dumdristige. Hvordan kan dere si til farao: Jeg er den vises sønn, sønn av gamle konger?

The princes of Zoan are utterly foolish; the counsel of the wisest counselors of Pharaoh is become brutish: how do you say to Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?

12 Hvor er dine vise menn da? La dem nå fortelle deg, og la dem få vite hva Hærskarenes Gud har planlagt mot Egypt.

Where then are your wise men? and let them tell you now; and let them know what Yahweh of Hosts has purposed concerning Egypt.

13 Fyrstene i Zoan har blitt tåper, fyrstene i Memphis er blitt forledet. De har fått Egypt til å gå seg vill, de som er hjørnesteinen i hennes stammer.

The princes of Zoan are become fools, the princes of Memphis are deceived; they have caused Egypt to go astray, who are the corner-stone of her tribes.

14 Herren har blandet en ånd av forvirring i hennes midte; de har fått Egypt til å gå seg vill i alle hennes gjerninger, som en drukken mann som vakler i sitt spy.

Yahweh has mixed a spirit of perverseness in the midst of her; and they have caused Egypt to go astray in every work of it, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

15 Det skal ikke finnes noen gjerning for Egypt som hode eller hale, palmegrein eller siv kan utføre.

Neither shall there be for Egypt any work, which head or tail, palm-branch or rush, may do.

16 På den dagen skal egypterne være som kvinner; de skal skjelve og frykte på grunn av Hærskarenes Guds hånd som han veiver over dem.

In that day shall the Egyptians be like women; and they shall tremble and fear because of the shaking of the hand of Yahweh of Hosts, which he shakes over them.

17 Judas land skal bli en skrekk for Egypt; hver gang det nevnes, blir de redde på grunn av hva Hærskarenes Gud har planlagt mot det.

The land of Judah shall become a terror to Egypt; everyone to whom mention is made of it shall be afraid, because of the purpose of Yahweh of Hosts, which he purposes against it.

18 På den dagen skal det være fem byer i Egypts land som taler Kanaans språk og sverger til Hærskarenes Gud; en skal kalles Ødeleggelsens by.

In that day there shall be five cities in the land of Egypt that speak the language of Canaan, and swear to Yahweh of hosts; one shall be called The city of destruction.

19 På den dagen skal det være et alter for Herren midt i Egypts land, og et minnesmerke for Herren ved grensen.

In that day shall there be an altar to Yahweh in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border of it to Yahweh.

20 Det skal være et tegn og et vitne for Hærskarenes Gud i Egypts land; for de skal rope til Herren på grunn av undertrykkerne, og han vil sende dem en frelser og en beskytter, og han vil fri dem.

It shall be for a sign and for a witness to Yahweh of Hosts in the land of Egypt; for they shall cry to Yahweh because of oppressors, and he will send them a savior, and a defender, and he will deliver them.

21 Herren skal bli kjent i Egypt, og egypterne skal kjenne Herren på den dagen; ja, de skal tilbe med offer og gave, og de skal avlegge et løfte til Herren og innfri det.

Yahweh shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know Yahweh in that day; yes, they shall worship with sacrifice and offering, and shall vow a vow to Yahweh, and shall perform it.

22 Herren vil slå Egypt, slå og lege; og de skal vende seg til Herren, og han vil lytte til dem og helbrede dem.

Yahweh will strike Egypt, smiting and healing; and they shall return to Yahweh, and he will be entreated of them, and will heal them.

23 På den dagen skal det være en vei fra Egypt til Assyria. Assyreren skal komme inn i Egypt, og egypteren til Assyria; og egypterne skal tilbe med assyrerne.

In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria; and the Egyptians shall worship with the Assyrians.

24 På den dagen skal Israel være den tredje sammen med Egypt og Assyria, en velsignelse midt på jorden.

In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth;

25 Fordi Hærskarenes Gud har velsignet dem og sagt: Velsignet være Egypt, mitt folk, Assyria, mine henders verk, og Israel, min arv.

because Yahweh of Hosts has blessed them, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance.
