1 På den tiden sendte Merodak Baladan, sønn av Baladan, Babylons konge, brev og en gave til Hiskia, for han hadde hørt at Hiskia hadde vært syk, men hadde blitt frisk.

At that time Merodach Baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah; for he heard that he had been sick, and was recovered.

2 Hiskia ble glad for dem og viste dem huset med sine kostbare skatter, sølvet, gullet, krydderne og den kostbare oljen, og hele våpenlageret sitt, og alt som fantes i hans skattkammer. Det fantes ingenting i hans hus eller i hele hans rike som Hiskia ikke viste dem.

Hezekiah was glad of them, and shown them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious oil, and all the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah didn't show them.

3 Da kom profeten Jesaja til kong Hiskia og spurte ham: Hva sa disse mennene, og hvor kom de fra? Hiskia svarte: De kom fra et land langt borte, helt fra Babylon.

Then came Isaiah the prophet to king Hezekiah, and said to him, What said these men? and from whence came they to you? Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country to me, even from Babylon.

4 Så spurte han: Hva har de sett i ditt hus? Hiskia svarte: De har sett alt som er i mitt hus; det finnes ingenting i mine skatter som jeg ikke har vist dem.

Then said he, What have they seen in your house? Hezekiah answered, All that is in my house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them.

5 Da sa Jesaja til Hiskia: Hør Herrens, hærskarenes Guds ord:

Then said Isaiah to Hezekiah, Hear the word of Yahweh of Hosts:

6 Se, dager skal komme da alt som er i ditt hus, og alt som dine fedre har samlet opp til i dag, skal bli ført til Babylon. Det skal ikke bli igjen noe, sier Herren.

Behold, the days are coming, when all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, says Yahweh.

7 Og av dine sønner, som du skal få, skal de ta med seg, og de skal bli hoffmenn i palasset til kongen av Babylon.

Of your sons who shall issue from you, whom you shall father, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

8 Da sa Hiskia til Jesaja: Godt er Herrens ord som du har talt. For han sa også: Det skal være fred og sannhet i mine dager.

Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of Yahweh which you have spoken. He said moreover, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.
