Så sier Yahweh: Gå og kjøp en leirflaske av pottemakeren, og ta med deg noen av folkets eldste og av prestenes eldste.

Thus said Yahweh, Go, and buy a potter's earthen bottle, and [take] of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;

Gå til Hinnoms sønns dal, ved inngangen til Potteskårporten, og forkynn der de ord jeg skal fortelle deg.

and go forth to the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the gate Harsith, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell you;

Og si: Hør Yahwehs ord, Judas konger og innbyggere i Jerusalem. Så sier Yahweh, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Se, jeg skal bringe ondskap over dette stedet, så enhver som hører det, vil få skjelving i ørene.

and say, Hear you the word of Yahweh, kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem: thus says Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring evil on this place, which whoever hears, his ears shall tingle.

Fordi de har forlatt meg og vanhelliget dette stedet, og har brent røkelse her til andre guder som verken de, deres fedre eller Judas konger kjente, og har fylt dette stedet med uskyldiges blod.

Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it to other gods, that they didn't know, they and their fathers and the kings of Judah; and have filled this place with the blood of innocents,

De har bygget offerhaugene til Ba'al for å brenne sine sønner i ild som brennoffer til Ba'al, noe jeg verken har befalt eller talt, og det har aldri kommet opp i mitt sinn.

and have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire for burnt offerings to Baal; which I didn't command, nor spoke it, neither came it into my mind:

Derfor, se, dager kommer, sier Yahweh, da dette stedet ikke lenger skal kalles Tofet eller Hinnoms sønns dal, men Slaktdalen.

therefore, behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that this place shall no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter.

Jeg vil gjøre Judahs og Jerusalems råd til intet på dette sted; og jeg vil la dem falle for sine fienders sverd, og for hånden til dem som søker deres liv. Jeg vil gi deres lik som føde for himmelens fugler og jordens dyr.

I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those who seek their life: and their dead bodies will I give to be food for the birds of the sky, and for the animals of the earth.

Jeg vil gjøre denne byen til en avsky og en hvesing; enhver som passerer forbi skal beundres og hvese på grunn av alle dens plager.

I will make this city an astonishment, and a hissing; everyone who passes thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues of it.

Jeg vil la dem spise kjøttet av sine sønner og kjøttet av sine døtre; og hver vil spise sin nestes kjøtt i beleiring og nød, som deres fiender og de som søker deres liv påfører dem.

I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters; and they shall eat everyone the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the distress, with which their enemies, and those who seek their life, shall distress them.

Så skal du knuse flasken i synet av de menn som går med deg.

Then shall you break the bottle in the sight of the men who go with you,

Og du skal si til dem: Så sier Yahweh, hærskarenes Gud: Likeledes skal jeg knuse dette folket og denne byen som man knuser en leirkrukke, som ikke kan bli hel igjen, og de skal begrave dem i Tofet, til det ikke er mer plass å begrave.

and shall tell them, Thus says Yahweh of Hosts: Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter's vessel, that can't be made whole again; and they shall bury in Topheth, until there be no place to bury.

Slik vil jeg gjøre med dette stedet, sier Yahweh, og med dets innbyggere, og gjøre denne byen som Tofet.

Thus will I do to this place, says Yahweh, and to the inhabitants of it, even making this city as Topheth:

Jerusalems hus og Judas kongers hus, som er blitt vanhelliget, skal være som Tofets sted, ja, alle husene på hvis tak de har brent røkelse for himmelens hær og utøser drikkoffer til andre guder.

and the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, which are defiled, shall be as the place of Topheth, even all the houses on whose roofs they have burned incense to all the host of the sky, and have poured out drink-offerings to other gods.

Så kom Jeremiah tilbake fra Tofet, hvor Yahweh hadde sendt ham for å profetere; og han sto i forgården til Yahwehs hus og sa til alt folket:

Then came Jeremiah from Topheth, where Yahweh had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of Yahweh's house, and said to all the people:

Så sier Yahweh, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Se, jeg skal bringe over denne byen og alle dens byer all den ondt jeg har uttalt mot den; fordi de har gjort sine nakker stive så de ikke vil høre mine ord.

Thus says Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring on this city and on all its towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it; because they have made their neck stiff, that they may not hear my words.
