Dessuten kom Herrens ord til Jeremia for andre gang, mens han fortsatt var innesperret i vaktgården, og sa,

Moreover the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the guard, saying,

Så sier Herren som gjør det, Herren som former det for å etablere det; Herren er hans navn:

Thus says Yahweh who does it, Yahweh who forms it to establish it; Yahweh is his name:

Rop til meg, så skal jeg svare deg og vise deg store ting, vanskelige som du ikke vet om.

Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great things, and difficult, which you don't know.

For så sier Herren, Israels Gud, om husene i denne byen og om kongene i Judas hus, som er revet ned [for å gjøre forsvar] mot vollene og mot sverdet;

For thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down [to make a defense] against the mounds and against the sword;

mens [menn] kommer for å kjempe mot kaldeerne og fylle dem med likene av mennesker, som jeg har drept i min vrede og i min harme, og for all ondskapen deres har jeg skjult mitt ansikt for denne byen.

while [men] come to fight with the Chaldeans, and to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have killed in my anger and in my wrath, and for all whose wickedness I have hid my face from this city:

Se, jeg vil bringe helse og legedom, og jeg vil helbrede dem; og jeg vil åpenbare for dem overflod av fred og sannhet.

Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them; and I will reveal to them abundance of peace and truth.

Jeg vil føre Judas og Israels fangenskap tilbake og bygge dem opp som i begynnelsen.

I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.

Jeg vil rense dem for all deres ondskap, som de har syndet mot meg med; og jeg vil tilgi all deres synd, som de har syndet mot meg med, og som de har forbrutt seg mot meg med.

I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, by which they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, by which they have sinned against me, and by which they have transgressed against me.

[Denne byen] skal være for meg et gledens navn, en lovprisning og en herlighet, for alle jordens nasjoner, som skal høre alt det gode jeg gjør for dem, og de skal frykte og skjelve for alt det gode og for all den fred som jeg skaffer til veie for den.

[This city] shall be to me for a name of joy, for a praise and for a glory, before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do to them, and shall fear and tremble for all the good and for all the peace that I procure to it.

Så sier Herren: Det skal igjen høres i dette stedet, som dere sier er øde, uten menneske og uten dyr, selv i Judas byer, og i Jerusalems gater, som er øde, uten menneske og uten innbygger og uten dyr,

Thus says Yahweh: Yet again there shall be heard in this place, about which you say, It is waste, without man and without animal, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without animal,

lyden av glede og lyd av fryd, lyden av brudgom og lyd av brud, lyden av dem som sier: Gi takk til Herren, hærskarenes Gud, for Herren er god, for hans nåde varer evig; [og av dem] som bærer [takkoffer] inn til Herrens hus. For jeg vil føre landets fangenskap tilbake som i begynnelsen, sier Herren.

the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say, Give thanks to Yahweh of Hosts, for Yahweh is good, for his loving kindness endures forever; [and of them] who bring [sacrifices of] thanksgiving into the house of Yahweh. For I will cause the captivity of the land to return as at the first, says Yahweh.

Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Igjen skal det være i dette stedet, som er øde, uten menneske og uten dyr, og i alle dets byer, et bosted for gjetere som lar sine flokker legge seg ned.

Thus says Yahweh of Hosts: Yet again shall there be in this place, which is waste, without man and without animal, and in all the cities of it, a habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.

I byene i fjellandet, i lavlandet, og i sør, og i Benjamins land, og i områdene rundt Jerusalem, og i Judas byer, skal flokkene igjen passere under hendene på den som teller dem, sier Herren.

In the cities of the hill-country, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, shall the flocks again pass under the hands of him who numbers them, says Yahweh.

Se, de dager kommer, sier Herren, da jeg vil oppfylle det gode ordet som jeg har talt om Israels hus og Judas hus.

Behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will perform that good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah.

I de dager og til den tid vil jeg la en rettferdig grein vokse frem for David; og han skal utøve rett og rettferdighet i landet.

In those days, and at that time, will I cause a Branch of righteousness to grow up to David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.

I de dager skal Juda bli frelst, og Jerusalem skal bo trygt; og dette er [navnet] med hvilket hun skal kalles: Herren vår rettferdighet.

In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely; and this is [the name] by which she shall be called: Yahweh our righteousness.

For slik sier Herren: David skal aldri mangle en mann til å sitte på tronen i Israels hus;

For thus says Yahweh: David shall never want a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;

heller ikke skal levittprestene mangle en mann foran meg til å ofre brennoffer og til å brenne matoffer og ofre kontinuerlig.

neither shall the priests the Levites want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to burn meal-offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.

Herrens ord kom til Jeremia og sa,

The word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, saying,

Så sier Herren: Hvis du kan bryte min pakt med dagen og min pakt med natten, slik at det ikke skal være dag og natt til sine faste tider,

Thus says Yahweh: If you can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, so that there shall not be day and night in their season;

da kan også min pakt med min tjener David bli brutt, at han ikke skal ha en sønn til å regjere på hans trone; og med levittene prestene, mine tjenere.

then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.

Likesom himmelens hær ikke kan telles, heller ikke sanden ved havet måles, slik vil jeg mangedoble avkommet til min tjener David, og levittene som tjener meg.

As the host of the sky can't be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured; so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites who minister to me.

Herrens ord kom til Jeremia og sa,

The word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, saying,

Betrakter du ikke hva dette folket har sagt, de to slektene som Herren utvalgte, har han forkastet dem? Slik forakter de mitt folk, så de ikke lenger er et folk for dem.

Don't you consider what this people has spoken, saying, The two families which Yahweh did choose, he has cast them off? thus do they despise my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.

Så sier Herren: Hvis min pakt med dag og natt svikter, hvis jeg ikke har fastsatt himmelens og jordens lover;

Thus says Yahweh: If my covenant of day and night fails, if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth;

da skal jeg også forkaste Jakobs og Davids avkom, så jeg ikke vil ta noe av hans avkom til å være herskere over Abrahams, Isaks og Jakobs avkom: for jeg vil føre deres fangenskap tilbake og være barmhjertig mot dem.

then will I also cast away the seed of Jacob, and of David my servant, so that I will not take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and will have mercy on them.
