Ordet som kom til Jeremia fra Herren i de dager da Jojakim, Josias sønn, var konge i Juda, sa:

The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,

Gå til Rechabittenes hus og snakk med dem, og ta dem med til Herrens hus, til et av kamrene, og gi dem vin å drikke.

Go to the house of the Rechabites, and speak to them, and bring them into the house of Yahweh, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.

Så tok jeg Ja’asanjas sønn av Jeremia, sønn av Habazzinja, og hans brødre, alle hans sønner og hele Rechabittenes hus.

Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

Jeg førte dem til Herrens hus, til kammeret til sønnene av Hanan, Igdaliahs sønn, Guds mann, som var ved siden av kammeret til stormennene, over kammeret til Maaseja, Shallums sønn, dørvokteren.

and I brought them into the house of Yahweh, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.

Jeg satte boller med vin foran Rechabittenes sønner, og sa til dem, Drikk vin.

I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said to them, Drink you wine.

Men de sa, Vi vil ikke drikke vin; for Jonadab, Rechabs sønn, vår far, befalte oss og sa: Dere skal ikke drikke vin, verken dere eller deres sønner, for alltid:

But they said, We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, You shall drink no wine, neither you, nor your sons, forever:

Dere skal heller ikke bygge hus, verken så eller plante vingård, eller ha noen; men dere skal bo i telt alle dager, så dere kan leve lenge i det land hvor dere bor.

neither shall you build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any; but all your days you shall dwell in tents; that you may live many days in the land in which you sojourn.

Vi har adlydt Jonadab, Rechabs sønn, vår fars røst i alt han befalte oss, å ikke drikke vin alle våre dager, vi, våre koner, våre sønner eller våre døtre;

We have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters;

heller ikke å bygge hus for å bo i; vi har heller ikke vinmark, åker eller såkorn.

nor to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

Men vi har bodd i telt og adlydt og gjort alt som Jonadab vår far befalte oss.

but we have lived in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

Men det skjedde da Nebukadnesar, kongen av Babylon, kom opp i landet, at vi sa, Kom og la oss gå inn til Jerusalem av frykt for kaldéernes hær og for syrernes hær; slik bor vi nå i Jerusalem.

But it happened, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians; so we dwell at Jerusalem.

Så kom Herrens ord til Jeremia og sa:

Then came the word of Yahweh to Jeremiah, saying,

Så sier Herren over Hærskarene, Israels Gud: Gå og si til mennene i Juda og innbyggerne i Jerusalem, Vil dere ikke ta imot lærdom og lytte til mine ord? sier Herren.

Thus says Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel: Go, and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will you not receive instruction to listen to my words? says Yahweh.

Jonadabs, Rechabs sønns, ord, som han befalte sine sønner om ikke å drikke vin, blir etterfulgt, og til denne dag drikker de ikke, for de adlyder sin fars bud. Men jeg har talt til dere, stått opp tidlig og talt, men dere har ikke hørt på meg.

The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; and to this day they drink none, for they obey their father's commandment: but I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking; and you have not listened to me.

Og jeg har sendt alle mine tjenere profetene til dere, tidlig om morgenen og sendt dem, og sagt, Vend om hver mann fra sin onde vei, og rett deres gjerninger, og gå ikke etter andre guder for å tjene dem, så skal dere bo i det landet jeg har gitt dere og deres fedre; men dere har ikke vendt øret til eller lyttet til meg.

I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return you now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and don't go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me.

Fordi Jonadabs, Rechabs sønns, sønner har gjort det de ble befalt av sin far, mens dette folket ikke har hørt på meg,

Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people has not listened to me;

derfor sier Herren, Israels Gud, Herren over Hærskarene: Se, jeg vil bringe over Juda og alle innbyggerne i Jerusalem alt det onde jeg har forkynt mot dem, fordi jeg har talt til dem, men de har ikke hørt, og jeg har kalt på dem, men de har ikke svart.

therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered.

Jeremia sa til Rechabittene: Så sier Herren over Hærskarene, Israels Gud: Fordi dere har adlydt Jonadabs, deres fars, bud og holdt alle hans forskrifter, og gjort alt han befalte dere;

Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, Thus says Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel: Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according to all that he commanded you;

derfor sier Herren over Hærskarene, Israels Gud: Jonadab, Rechabs sønn, skal aldri mangle en mann til å stå for meg til evig tid.

therefore thus says Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel: Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me forever.
