The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah, who were carried away captive to Babylon.

Høvedsmannen tok Jeremia til side og sa til ham: Herren din Gud har forkynt denne ulykken over dette stedet.

The captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him, Yahweh your God pronounced this evil on this place;

Herren har latt det skje og gjort som han sa: fordi dere har syndet mot Herren og ikke adlydt hans røst, derfor har dette kommet over dere.

and Yahweh has brought it, and done according as he spoke: because you have sinned against Yahweh, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come on you.

Nå, se, jeg løsner deg i dag fra lenkene om hendene dine. Hvis det er godt for deg å bli med meg til Babylon, så kom, og jeg skal ta godt vare på deg; men hvis det ikke er bra for deg å bli med meg til Babylon, la det være: Se, hele landet ligger foran deg; hvor det ser godt og riktig ut for deg å gå, der kan du gå.

Now, behold, I loose you this day from the chains which are on your hand. If it seem good to you to come with me into Babylon, come, and I will look well to you; but if it seem ill to you to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before you; where it seems good and right to you to go, there go.

Mens han ennå ikke hadde gått tilbake, sa han: Gå da tilbake til Gedalja, sønn av Akikam, sønn av Sjafan, som Babylons konge har satt til guvernør over byene i Juda, og bli hos ham blant folket; eller gå hvor det synes riktig for deg å gå. Så ga høvedsmannen ham mat og en gave, og lot ham gå.

Now while he was not yet gone back, Go back then, [said he], to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people; or go wherever it seems right to you to go. So the captain of the guard gave him food and a present, and let him go.

Så gikk Jeremia til Gedalja, sønn av Akikam, til Mispa og bodde hos ham blant folket som var igjen i landet.

Then went Jeremiah to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah, and lived with him among the people who were left in the land.

Da alle høvdingene over styrkene som var ute i feltene, de og deres menn, hørte at Babylons konge hadde satt Gedalja, sønn av Akikam, til guvernør i landet, og hadde overlatt til ham menn, kvinner og barn, og de fattigste i landet, av dem som ikke ble ført bort til Babylon;

Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, and women, and children, and of the poorest of the land, of those who were not carried away captive to Babylon;

så kom de til Gedalja i Mispa, nemlig Ismael, sønn av Netanja, Johanan og Jonatan, sønner av Kareah, Seraja, sønn av Tanhumet, sønner av Efai, Netofatitten, og Jezanaja, sønn av Maakattitten, de og deres menn.

then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, [to wit], Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men.

Gedalja, sønn av Akikam, sønn av Sjafan, sverget til dem og deres menn og sa: Frykt ikke for å tjene kaldeerne: Bli i landet og tjen Babylons konge, så skal det gå dere vel.

Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore to them and to their men, saying, Don't be afraid to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

Når det gjelder meg, se, jeg vil bli i Mispa for å stå foran kaldeerne som skal komme til oss: men dere, samle vin og sommerfrukter og olje, og legg dem i karene deres, og bli i byene dere har inntatt.

As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who shall come to us: but you, gather you wine and summer fruits and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken.

På samme måte, da alle jødene som var i Moab, blant Ammons barn, og i Edom, og som var i alle landene, hørte at Babylons konge hadde overlatt en rest av Juda, og hadde satt over dem Gedalja, sønn av Akikam, sønn av Sjafan;

Likewise when all the Jews who were in Moab, and among the children of Ammon, and in Edom, and who were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan;

da vendte alle jødene tilbake fra alle stedene de var drevet bort til, og kom til Juda land, til Gedalja, til Mispa, og samlet meget vin og sommerfrukter.

then all the Jews returned out of all places where they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.

Dessuten kom Johanan, sønn av Kareah, og alle høvdingene for styrkene som var ute i feltene, til Gedalja i Mispa,

Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,

og sa til ham: Vet du at Baalis, kongen over Ammons barn, har sendt Ismael, sønn av Netanja, for å ta ditt liv? Men Gedalja, sønn av Akikam, trodde dem ikke.

and said to him, Do you know that Baalis the king of the children of Ammon has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam didn't believe them.

Da talte Johanan, sønn av Kareah, hemmelig til Gedalja i Mispa og sa: La meg gå, jeg ber deg, og jeg vil drepe Ismael, sønn av Netanja, og ingen vil vite det: hvorfor skulle han ta ditt liv, slik at alle jødene som er samlet hos deg, skal bli spredt og resten av Juda gå til grunne?

Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Please let me go, and I will kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: why should he take your life, that all the Jews who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant of Judah perish?

Men Gedalja, sønn av Akikam, sa til Johanan, sønn av Kareah: Du skal ikke gjøre dette, for du taler løgn om Ismael.

But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, You shall not do this thing; for you speak falsely of Ishmael.
