Da kom alle hærførerne, Johanan, sønn av Kareah, og Jezania, sønn av Hoshaia, og hele folket, fra den yngste til den eldste, nærmere,

Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even to the greatest, came near,

og sa til profeten Jeremia: Vi ber deg, la vår bønn bli fremlagt for deg, og be for oss til Herren din Gud, for hele denne resten; for vi er bare få som er igjen av mange, slik du ser oss:

and said to Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we pray you, our supplication be presented before you, and pray for us to Yahweh your God, even for all this remnant; for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes do see us:

that Yahweh your God may show us the way in which we should walk, and the thing that we should do.

Da sa profeten Jeremia til dem: Jeg har hørt dere; se, jeg skal be til Herren deres Gud etter deres ord; og det skal skje at uansett hva Herren svarer dere, vil jeg forkynne det for dere; jeg vil ikke holde noe tilbake.

Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray to Yahweh your God according to your words; and it shall happen that whatever thing Yahweh shall answer you, I will declare it to you; I will keep nothing back from you.

Da sa de til Jeremia: Herren være et sant og trofast vitne blant oss, om vi ikke gjør etter alt det ord som Herren din Gud skal sende deg til oss med.

Then they said to Jeremiah, Yahweh be a true and faithful witness among us, if we don't do according to all the word with which Yahweh your God shall send you to us.

Enten det er godt eller ondt, vil vi adlyde Herren vår Guds røst, som vi sender deg til, så det kan gå oss vel når vi adlyder Herren vår Guds røst.

Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of Yahweh our God, to whom we send you; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of Yahweh our God.

Det skjedde etter ti dager at Herrens ord kom til Jeremia.

It happened after ten days, that the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah.

Da kalte han på Johanan, sønn av Kareah, og alle hærførerne som var med ham, og hele folket fra den minste til den største,

Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

og sa til dem: Så sier Herren, Israels Gud, som dere sendte meg til for å presentere deres bønn for ham:

and said to them, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your supplication before him:

Hvis dere fortsatt blir i dette landet, vil jeg bygge dere opp og ikke rive dere ned, og jeg vil plante dere og ikke rydde dere bort; for jeg angrer det onde jeg har gjort mot dere.

If you will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I repent me of the evil that I have done to you.

Vær ikke redde for kongen av Babylon, som dere frykter; vær ikke redde for ham, sier Herren: for jeg er med dere for å frelse dere og befri dere fra hans hånd.

Don't be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid; don't be afraid of him, says Yahweh: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

Jeg vil gi dere nåde, så han viser barmhjertighet mot dere og lar dere vende tilbake til deres eget land.

I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy on you, and cause you to return to your own land.

Men hvis dere sier: Vi vil ikke bo i dette landet og dermed ikke adlyder Herren deres Guds røst,

But if you say, We will not dwell in this land; so that you don't obey the voice of Yahweh your God,

og sier: Nei, vi vil dra til Egypt, hvor vi ikke skal se krig, eller høre lyden av trompeten, eller lide hunger etter brød; der vil vi bo:

saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:

så hør nå Herrens ord, dere rest av Juda: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud, hvis dere virkelig setter dere fore å dra til Egypt for å bo der;

now therefore hear you the word of Yahweh, O remnant of Judah: Thus says Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel, If you indeed set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

så skal det skje at sverdet dere frykter, skal innhente dere der i Egypt, og hungeren dere er redde for, skal følge etter dere der i Egypt; og der skal dere dø.

then it shall happen, that the sword, which you fear, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, about which you are afraid, shall follow hard after you there in Egypt; and there you shall die.

Så skal det bli med alle mennene som setter seg fore å dra til Egypt for å bo der: de skal dø for sverdet, av hungeren, og ved pest; og ingen av dem skal bli tilbake eller unnslippe det onde jeg vil føre over dem.

So shall it be with all the men who set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there: they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring on them.

For så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Som min vrede og min harme har blitt utøst over Jerusalems innbyggere, slik skal min harme bli utøst over dere når dere går inn i Egypt; og dere skal bli til skrekk, undring, forbannelse og vanære; og dere skal ikke se dette stedet mer.

For thus says Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel: As my anger and my wrath has been poured forth on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall my wrath be poured forth on you, when you shall enter into Egypt; and you shall be an object of horror, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and you shall see this place no more.

Herren har talt om dere, rest av Juda: Gå ikke inn i Egypt: vit at jeg har advart dere i dag.

Yahweh has spoken concerning you, remnant of Judah, Don't you go into Egypt: know certainly that I have testified to you this day.

For dere har handlet bedragersk mot deres egne sjeler; for dere sendte meg til Herren deres Gud, og sa: Be for oss til Herren vår Gud; og alt hva Herren vår Gud sier, forkynn det for oss, så skal vi gjøre det:

For you have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for you sent me to Yahweh your God, saying, Pray for us to Yahweh our God; and according to all that Yahweh our God shall say, so declare to us, and we will do it:

Og jeg har i dag erklært det for dere; men dere har ikke adlydt Herren deres Guds røst i noe av det han har sendt meg til dere med.

and I have this day declared it to you; but you have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God in anything for which he has sent me to you.

Så vit derfor for visst at dere skal dø for sverdet, ved hungeren og ved pest, på det stedet dere ønsker å dra for å bo der.

Now therefore know certainly that you shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place where you desire to go to sojourn there.
