1 Herren talte til Moses etter at de to sønnene til Aron døde, da de trådte frem for Herren og døde.

Yahweh spoke to Moses, after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they drew near before Yahweh, and died;

2 Og Herren sa til Moses: «Si til din bror Aron at han ikke til enhver tid skal komme inn i Det Aller Helligste bak forhenget, foran nådestolen som er på arken, så han ikke skal dø, for jeg vil vise meg i skyen over nådestolen.

and Yahweh said to Moses, "Tell Aaron your brother, not to come at all times into the Most Holy Place within the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark; lest he die: for I will appear in the cloud on the mercy seat.

3 Slik skal Aron komme inn i helligdommen: med en ung okse til syndoffer og en vær til brennoffer.

"Herewith shall Aaron come into the sanctuary: with a young bull for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.

4 Han skal ta på seg den hellige linskjorten, og han skal ha linbukser på sin kropp, han skal binde et linskjærf om seg og ta på seg et linlue. Dette er de hellige klærne. Han skal vaske sin kropp i vann og ta dem på.

He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches on his body, and shall put on the linen sash, and he shall be dressed with the linen turban. They are the holy garments. He shall bathe his body in water, and put them on.

5 Han skal ta fra Israels barns menighet to bukker til syndoffer og en vær til brennoffer.

He shall take from the congregation of the children of Israel two male goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering

6 Aron skal ofre oksen som sitt eget syndoffer og gjøre soning for seg selv og for sitt hus.

"Aaron shall offer the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself and for his house.

7 Han skal ta de to bukkene og stille dem fram for Herren ved inngangen til Åpenbaringsteltet.

He shall take the two goats, and set them before Yahweh at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

8 Aron skal kaste lodd om de to bukkene, et lodd for Herren og et lodd for syndebukken.

Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats; one lot for Yahweh, and the other lot for the scapegoat.

9 Aron skal føre frem bukken som loddet for Herren falt på, og ofre den som syndoffer.

Aaron shall present the goat on which the lot fell for Yahweh, and offer him for a sin offering.

10 Men bukken som loddet for syndebukken falt på, skal stilles levende frem for Herren for å gjøre soning med den, og den skal sendes ut i ørkenen som syndebukk.

But the goat, on which the lot fell for the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before Yahweh, to make atonement for him, to send him away for the scapegoat into the wilderness.

11 Aron skal føre frem oksen som er hans eget syndoffer, og gjøre soning for seg selv og for sitt hus, og han skal slakte oksen som er hans eget syndoffer.

"Aaron shall present the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make atonement for himself and for his house, and shall kill the bull of the sin offering which is for himself.

12 Han skal ta en panne full av glødende kull fra alteret foran Herren, og to hender fulle av finstøtt velluktende røkelse, og føre det inn innenfor forhenget.

He shall take a censer full of coals of fire from off the altar before Yahweh, and two handfuls of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the veil:

13 Og han skal legge røkelsen på ilden foran Herren, så skyen av røkelse dekker nådestolen over vitnesbyrdet, for at han ikke skal dø.

and he shall put the incense on the fire before Yahweh, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is on the testimony, so that he will not die.

14 Han skal ta noe av blodet fra oksen og sprenge det med sin finger på nådestolen i retning øst, og foran nådestolen skal han sprenge noe av blodet med fingeren sju ganger.

He shall take some of the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it with his finger on the mercy seat on the east; and before the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times.

15 Så skal han drepe bukken som er folkets syndoffer, og bringe blodet dens inn innenfor forhenget og gjøre med det som han gjorde med oksens blod; han skal sprenge det på nådestolen og foran nådestolen.

"Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the veil, and do with his blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat:

16 Han skal gjøre soning for det Hellige på grunn av urenheten hos Israels barn, deres overtredelser og alle deres synder; det samme skal han gjøre for Åpenbaringsteltet, som bor blant dem midt i deres urenheter.

and he shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions, even all their sins; and so he shall do for the Tent of Meeting, that dwells with them in the midst of their uncleanness.

17 Ingen skal være i Åpenbaringsteltet når han går inn for å gjøre soning i det Hellige, før han kommer ut og har gjort soning for seg selv, for sitt hus og for hele Israels menighet.

There shall be no one in the Tent of Meeting when he enters to make atonement in the Holy Place, until he comes out, and has made atonement for himself and for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel.

18 Han skal gå ut til alteret som står foran Herren og gjøre soning for det, og han skal ta av oksens blod og bukkens blod og smøre det på alterhornene rundt om.

"He shall go out to the altar that is before Yahweh and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the bull's blood, and some of the goat's blood, and put it on the horns of the altar round about.

19 Han skal sprenge noe av blodet på det med sin finger sju ganger, rense og hellige det fra Israels barns urenhet.

He shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and make it holy from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

20 Når han har gjort ferdig soningen for helligdommen, Åpenbaringsteltet og alteret, skal han føre den levende bukken frem.

"When he has made an end of atoning for the Holy Place, the Tent of Meeting, and the altar, he shall present the live goat.

21 Aron skal legge begge sine hender på hodet til den levende bukken og bekjenne over den alle Israels barns misgjerninger, alle deres overtredelser og alle deres synder; og han skal legge dem på bukkehode og sende den bort i ørkenen ved en mann som står klar.

Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, even all their sins; and he shall put them on the head of the goat, and shall send him away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who is in readiness.

22 Bukken skal bære alle deres misgjerninger til et øde land, og bukken skal sendes ut i ørkenen.

The goat shall carry all their iniquities on himself to a solitary land, and he shall let the goat go in the wilderness.

23 Aron skal gå inn i Åpenbaringsteltet og ta av seg lintøyet som han satte på seg da han gikk inn i det Hellige, og han skal legge det der.

"Aaron shall come into the Tent of Meeting, and shall take off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the Holy Place, and shall leave them there.

24 Så skal han vaske sin kropp i vann på et hellig sted, ta på seg sine klær, gå ut og ofre sitt brennoffer og folkets brennoffer, og gjøre soning for seg selv og for folket.

Then he shall bathe himself in water in a holy place, and put on his garments, and come out and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people.

25 Fettet av syndofferet skal han brenne på alteret.

The fat of the sin offering he shall burn on the altar.

26 Den mannen som slipper bukken fri som syndebukk, skal vaske sine klær og bade sin kropp i vann, og så komme inn i leiren.

"He who lets the goat go for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.

27 Oksen for syndofferet og bukken for syndofferet, hvis blod ble brakt inn for å gjøre soning i det Hellige, skal føres ut av leiren; deres skinn, kjøtt og møkk skal brennes opp med ild.

The bull for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the Holy Place, shall be carried forth outside the camp; and they shall burn their skins, their flesh, and their dung with fire.

28 Den som brenner dem, skal vaske sine klær og bade sin kropp i vann, og siden komme inn i leiren.

He who burns them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.

29 Dette skal være en evig forskrift for dere: På den tiende dagen i den sjuende måneden skal dere pine deres sjeler og ikke gjøre noe arbeid, enten det er en innfødt eller en fremmed som bor hos dere.

"It shall be a statute to you forever: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and shall do no manner of work, the native-born, or the stranger who lives as a foreigner among you:

30 For på denne dagen skal soning gjøres for dere for å rense dere; dere skal renses fra alle deres synder for Herren.

for on this day shall atonement be made for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins you shall be clean before Yahweh.

31 Det skal være en sabbat med full hvile for dere, og dere skal pine deres sjeler. Det er en evig forskrift.

It is a Sabbath of solemn rest to you, and you shall afflict your souls; it is a statute forever.

32 Den presten som er salvet og innviet for å tjene som prest i sin fars plass, skal gjøre soningen, iføre seg lintøyet, de hellige klærne.

The priest, who is anointed and who is consecrated to be priest in his father's place, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen garments, even the holy garments.

33 Han skal gjøre soning for det hellige Helligdommen; og han skal gjøre soning for Åpenbaringsteltet og for alteret; og han skal gjøre soning for prestene og hele folkets menighet.

Then he shall make atonement for the Holy Sanctuary; and he shall make atonement for the Tent of Meeting and for the altar; and he shall make atonement for the priests and for all the people of the assembly.

34 Dette skal være en evig forskrift for dere å gjøre soning for Israels barn en gang i året på grunn av alle deres synder.» Det ble gjort som Herren hadde befalt Moses.

"This shall be an everlasting statute for you, to make atonement for the children of Israel once in the year because of all their sins." It was done as Yahweh commanded Moses.
