1 Herren sa til Moses: "Tal til prestene, Arons sønner, og si til dem: 'En prest skal ikke gjøre seg selv uren for noen død blant sitt folk;

Yahweh said to Moses, "Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them, 'A priest shall not defile himself for the dead among his people;

2 unntatt for sine nærmeste slektninger: for sin mor, for sin far, for sin sønn, for sin datter, for sin bror,

except for his relatives that are near to him: for his mother, for his father, for his son, for his daughter, for his brother,

3 og for sin søster som er jomfru, som står ham nær og ikke har hatt noen mann; for henne kan han gjøre seg uren.

and for his virgin sister who is near to him, who has had no husband; for her he may defile himself.

4 Han skal ikke gjøre seg uren og vanære seg selv som en øverste blant sitt folk.

He shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself.

5 De skal ikke rake hodet, ikke heller klippe kantene av skjegget, eller lage kutt i kroppen.

"'They shall not shave their heads, neither shall they shave off the corners of their beards, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.

6 De skal være hellige for sin Gud og ikke vanhellige sin Guds navn; for de bærer fram Herrens ofre ved ild, sin Guds brød; derfor skal de være hellige.

They shall be holy to their God, and not profane the name of their God; for they offer the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, the bread of their God; therefore they shall be holy.

7 De skal ikke gifte seg med en kvinne som er prostituert eller vanhellig; ikke gifte seg med en kvinne som er skilt fra sin mann, for presten er hellig for sin Gud.

"'They shall not marry a woman who is a prostitute, or profane; neither shall they marry a woman divorced from her husband: for he is holy to his God.

8 Du skal hellige ham derfor, for han bærer fram din Guds brød; han skal være hellig for deg, for jeg, Herren som helliger dere, er hellig.

You shall sanctify him therefore; for he offers the bread of your God: he shall be holy to you: for I Yahweh, who sanctify you, am holy.

9 Datteren til en prest, hvis hun vanhelliger seg ved å drive hor, vanhelliger sin far; hun skal brennes med ild.

"'The daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by playing the prostitute, she profanes her father: she shall be burned with fire.

"'He who is the high priest among his brothers, upon whose head the anointing oil is poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not let the hair of his head hang loose, nor tear his clothes;

11 Han skal ikke gå inn til noen død, eller gjøre seg uren verken for sin far eller for sin mor.

neither shall he go in to any dead body, nor defile himself for his father, or for his mother;

12 Han skal ikke forlate helligdommen eller vanhellige helligdommen til sin Gud; for hans Guds salvings krone er over ham, jeg er Herren.

neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him. I am Yahweh.

13 Han skal ta en kone i jomfruelighet.

"'He shall take a wife in her virginity.

14 En enke, en skilt kvinne, en som er vanhelliget, eller en prostituert kvinne skal han ikke gifte seg med; men en jomfru av sitt eget folk skal han ta som kone.

A widow, or one divorced, or a woman who has been defiled, or a prostitute, these he shall not marry: but a virgin of his own people shall he take as a wife.

15 Han skal ikke vanhellige sin sæd blant sitt folk, for jeg er Herren som helliger ham.'"

He shall not profane his seed among his people: for I am Yahweh who sanctifies him.'"

16 Herren talte til Moses og sa:

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

17 "Si til Aron: 'Ingen av din ætt gjennom deres generasjoner som har en lyte, skal nærme seg for å bære fram sin Guds brød.

"Say to Aaron, 'None of your seed throughout their generations who has a blemish, may approach to offer the bread of his God.

18 For hvilken som helst mann som har en lyte, skal ikke trekke nær: en blind mann, en halt, en med flat nese, eller noen som har en deformitet,

For whatever man he is that has a blemish, he shall not draw near: a blind man, or a lame, or he who has a flat nose, or any deformity,

19 eller en mann med en skadet fot, eller en skadet hånd,

or a man who has an injured foot, or an injured hand,

20 eller en pukkelrygg, eller en dverg, eller en med en defekt i øyet, utslett, skabb, eller skadde testikler;

or hunchbacked, or a dwarf, or one who has a defect in his eye, or an itching disease, or scabs, or who has damaged testicles;

21 ingen av Arons prestelige ætt med en lyte skal nærme seg for å bære fram Herrens ofre ved ild. Fordi han har en lyte, skal han ikke nærme seg for å bære fram sin Guds brød.

no man of the seed of Aaron the priest, who has a blemish, shall come near to offer the offerings of Yahweh made by fire. Since has a blemish, he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God.

22 Han skal spise sin Guds brød, både av det høyhellige og av det hellige.

He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.

23 Han skal ikke komme nær forhenget, eller nærme seg alteret fordi han har en lyte; for at han ikke vanhelliger mine helligdommer, for jeg er Herren som helliger dem.'"

He shall not come near to the veil, nor come near to the altar, because he has a blemish; that he may not profane my sanctuaries, for I am Yahweh who sanctifies them.'"

24 Moses talte da til Aron, og til hans sønner, og til hele Israels barn.

So Moses spoke to Aaron, and to his sons, and to all the children of Israel.
