1 Men på den første dagen i uken, tidlig om morgenen, kom de og noen andre til graven, og hadde med seg de krydderiene de hadde forberedt.

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they and some others came to the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared.

2 De fant steinen rullet bort fra graven.

They found the stone rolled away from the tomb.

3 Da de gikk inn, fant de ikke Herrens Jesu kropp.

They entered in, and didn't find the Lord Jesus' body.

4 Mens de var svært forvirret over dette, se, to menn i strålende klær sto ved dem.

It happened, while they were greatly perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling clothing.

5 De ble redde og bøyde ansiktene mot jorden. Deres sa til dem: "Hvorfor leter dere etter den levende blant de døde?

Becoming terrified, they bowed their faces down to the earth. They said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead?

He isn't here, but is risen. Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee,

7 at Menneskesønnen skulle overgis i syndige menneskers hender, bli korsfestet, og på den tredje dagen stå opp igjen."

saying that the Son of Man must be delivered up into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again?"

8 De husket hans ord,

They remembered his words,

9 vendte tilbake fra graven og fortalte alt dette til de elleve og til alle de andre.

returned from the tomb, and told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest.

10 Det var Maria Magdalena, Johanna og Maria, Jakobs mor. De andre kvinnene med dem fortalte dette til apostlene.

Now they were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James. The other women with them told these things to the apostles.

11 Disse ordene virket som tull for dem, og de trodde dem ikke.

These words seemed to them to be nonsense, and they didn't believe them.

12 Men Peter sto opp og løp til graven. Da han bøyde seg ned og så inn, så han lintøyet ligge der alene, og han dro hjem, undrende over det som hadde skjedd.

But Peter got up and ran to the tomb. Stooping and looking in, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he departed to his home, wondering what had happened.

13 Se, to av dem var på vei samme dag til en landsby som heter Emmaus, omtrent elleve kilometer fra Jerusalem.

Behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was sixty stadia{60 stadia = about 11 kilometers or about 7 miles.} from Jerusalem.

14 De snakket med hverandre om alt det som hadde hendt.

They talked with each other about all of these things which had happened.

15 Det skjedde, mens de snakket og diskuterte sammen, at Jesus selv nærmet seg og gikk med dem.

It happened, while they talked and questioned together, that Jesus himself came near, and went with them.

16 Men deres øyne ble holdt tilbake, slik at de ikke kjente ham igjen.

But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.

17 Han sa til dem: "Hva er det dere snakker om mens dere går og er sørgmodige?"

He said to them, "What are you talking about as you walk, and are sad?"

18 En av dem, som het Kleopas, svarte ham: "Er du den eneste fremmede i Jerusalem som ikke vet hva som har skjedd der i disse dager?"

One of them, named Cleopas, answered him, "Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who doesn't know the things which have happened there in these days?"

19 Han sa til dem: "Hva da?" De sa til ham: "Det som gjelder Jesus fra Nasaret, som var en profet mektig i gjerning og ord foran Gud og hele folket;

He said to them, "What things?" They said to him, "The things concerning Jesus, the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people;

20 og hvordan yppersteprestene og våre herskere overga ham til å dømmes til døden og korsfestet ham.

and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.

21 Men vi håpet at han var den som skulle forløse Israel. Ja, og dessuten er dette nå den tredje dagen siden dette skjedde.

But we were hoping that it was he who would redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.

22 Også noen kvinner blant oss forbløffet oss, da de ankom tidlig ved graven;

Also, certain women of our company amazed us, having arrived early at the tomb;

23 og da de ikke fant kroppen hans, kom de og sa at de også hadde sett et syn av engler, som sa at han levde.

and when they didn't find his body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.

24 Noen av oss gikk til graven og fant den slik som kvinnene hadde sagt, men de så ham ikke."

Some of us went to the tomb, and found it just like the women had said, but they didn't see him."

25 Han sa til dem: "Dårer, og trege i hjertet til å tro alt det profetene har talt!

He said to them, "Foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

26 Måtte ikke Kristus lide dette og gå inn i sin herlighet?"

Didn't the Christ have to suffer these things and to enter into his glory?"

27 Fra Moses og alle profetene forklarte han for dem i alle Skriftene det som gjaldt ham selv.

Beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

28 De nærmet seg landsbyen de skulle til, og han lot som om han ville gå videre.

They drew near to the village, where they were going, and he acted like he would go further.

29 De ba ham innstendig og sa: "Bli hos oss, for det er nesten kveld, og dagen er nesten over." Han gikk inn for å bli hos dem.

They urged him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is almost evening, and the day is almost over." He went in to stay with them.

30 Det skjedde da at mens han satt til bords med dem, tok han brødet, velsignet det, brøt det og ga det til dem.

It happened, that when he had sat down at the table with them, he took the bread and gave thanks. Breaking it, he gave to them.

31 Deres øyne ble åpnet, og de kjente ham igjen, men han ble usynlig for dem.

Their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he vanished out of their sight.

32 De sa til hverandre: "Brant ikke våre hjerter i oss mens han snakket med oss på veien og mens han åpnet Skriftene for oss?"

They said one to another, "Weren't our hearts burning within us, while he spoke to us along the way, and while he opened the Scriptures to us?"

33 De reiste seg straks, vendte tilbake til Jerusalem, og fant de elleve samlet, og de som var med dem,

They rose up that very hour, returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,

34 og sa: "Herren er virkelig oppstått, og har vist seg for Simon!"

saying, "The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!"

35 De fortalte da om hva som skjedde på veien, og hvordan han ble gjenkjent av dem da han brøt brødet.

They related the things that happened along the way, and how he was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.

36 Mens de snakket om dette, sto Jesus selv midt blant dem og sa til dem: "Fred være med dere."

As they said these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, "Peace be to you."

37 Men de ble skremt og fylte med frykt, og trodde de så en ånd.

But they were terrified and filled with fear, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

38 Han sa til dem: "Hvorfor er dere redde? Hvorfor kommer det tvil i deres hjerter?

He said to them, "Why are you troubled? Why do doubts arise in your hearts?

39 Se mine hender og mine føtter, at det virkelig er meg. Rør ved meg og se, for en ånd har ikke kjøtt og bein, slik dere ser at jeg har."

See my hands and my feet, that it is truly me. Touch me and see, for a spirit doesn't have flesh and bones, as you see that I have."

40 Da han hadde sagt dette, viste han dem sine hender og føtter.

When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.

41 Mens de ennå ikke kunne tro av glede og undret seg, sa han til dem: "Har dere noe her å spise?"

While they still didn't believe for joy, and wondered, he said to them, "Do you have anything here to eat?"

42 De ga ham et stykke stekt fisk og litt honningkake.

They gave him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb.

43 Han tok det og spiste det foran dem.

He took them, and ate in front of them.

44 Han sa til dem: "Dette er det jeg talte til dere om, da jeg ennå var hos dere, at alt det som står skrevet om meg i Mose lov, profetene og Salmene, må oppfylles."

He said to them, "This is what I told you, while I was still with you, that all things which are written in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me must be fulfilled."

45 Da åpnet han deres sinn, så de kunne forstå Skriftene.

Then he opened their minds, that they might understand the Scriptures.

46 Han sa til dem: "Slik er det skrevet, og slik var det nødvendig for Kristus å lide og å stige opp fra de døde på den tredje dagen,

He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,

47 og at omvendelse og syndsforlatelse skal forkynnes i hans navn for alle nasjoner, med begynnelse i Jerusalem.

and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48 Dere er vitner om alt dette.

You are witnesses of these things.

49 Se, jeg sender min Fars løfte over dere. Men vent i byen Jerusalem til dere er kledd med kraft fra det høye."

Behold, I send forth the promise of my Father on you. But wait in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high."

50 Han ledet dem ut så langt som til Betania, og han løftet opp hendene og velsignet dem.

He led them out as far as Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

51 Det skjedde mens han velsignet dem, at han trakk seg tilbake fra dem, og ble løftet opp til himmelen.

It happened, while he blessed them, that he withdrew from them, and was carried up into heaven.

52 De tilba ham og vendte tilbake til Jerusalem med stor glede,

They worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,

53 og var stadig i tempelet, lovpriste og priste Gud. Amen.

and were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
