1 Yahves, hærskarenes Guds ord kom til meg.

The word of Yahweh of Hosts came to me.

2 Så sier Yahve, hærskarenes Gud: "Jeg er nidkjær for Sion med stor nidkjærhet, og jeg er nidkjær for henne med stor vrede."

Thus says Yahweh of Hosts: "I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath."

3 Så sier Yahve: "Jeg har vendt tilbake til Sion og vil bo i Jerusalems midte. Jerusalem skal kalles 'Sannhetens by;' og fjellet til Yahve, hærskarenes Gud, 'Det hellige fjell.'"

Thus says Yahweh: "I have returned to Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called 'The City of Truth;' and the mountain of Yahweh of Hosts, 'The Holy Mountain.'"

4 Så sier Yahve, hærskarenes Gud: "Gamle menn og gamle kvinner vil igjen bo i Jerusalems gater, hver med sin stav i hånden på grunn av høy alder.

Thus says Yahweh of Hosts: "Old men and old women will again dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, every man with his staff in his hand for very age.

5 Byens gater vil være fulle av gutter og jenter som leker i gatene."

The streets of the city will be full of boys and girls playing in its streets."

6 Så sier Yahve, hærskarenes Gud: "Om det er underfullt i øynene til denne rest av folket i de dager, skulle det også være underfullt i mine øyne?" sier Yahve, hærskarenes Gud.

Thus says Yahweh of Hosts: "If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, should it also be marvelous in my eyes?" says Yahweh of Hosts.

7 Så sier Yahve, hærskarenes Gud: "Se, jeg vil redde mitt folk fra landene i øst og vest;

Thus says Yahweh of Hosts: "Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;

8 og jeg vil føre dem, og de skal bo i Jerusalems midte, og de skal være mitt folk, og jeg vil være deres Gud, i sannhet og i rettferdighet."

and I will bring them, and they will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and they will be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness."

9 Så sier Yahve, hærskarenes Gud: "La deres hender være sterke, dere som hører disse ordene i disse dager fra munnen til profetene som var der da grunnmuren til Yahves, hærskarenes Guds hus ble lagt, slik at tempelet kunne bli bygd.

Thus says Yahweh of Hosts: "Let your hands be strong, you who hear in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets who were in the day that the foundation of the house of Yahweh of Hosts was laid, even the temple, that it might be built.

10 For før de dager var det ingen lønn for mennesket, heller ingen lønn for et dyr; det var heller ingen fred for den som gikk ut eller kom inn, på grunn av fienden. For jeg satte alle mennesker mot sin neste.

For before those days there was no wages for man, nor any wages for an animal; neither was there any peace to him who went out or came in, because of the adversary. For I set all men everyone against his neighbor.

11 Men nå vil jeg ikke være som i de tidligere dager for denne rest av folket," sier Yahve, hærskarenes Gud.

But now I will not be to the remnant of this people as in the former days," says Yahweh of Hosts.

12 "For fredenes sæd og vintreet vil bære frukt, og jorden vil gi sin avling, og himmelen vil gi sitt dugg; og jeg vil få denne rest av folket til å arve alle disse tingene.

"For the seed of peace and the vine will yield its fruit, and the ground will give its increase, and the heavens will give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit all these things.

13 Det skal skje at som dere var en forbannelse blant nasjonene, Judas hus og Israels hus, slik vil jeg redde dere, og dere skal være en velsignelse. Frykt ikke. La deres hender være sterke."

It shall come to pass that, as you were a curse among the nations, house of Judah and house of Israel, so will I save you, and you shall be a blessing. Don't be afraid. Let your hands be strong."

14 For slik sier Yahve, hærskarenes Gud: "Som jeg tenkte å gjøre ondt mot dere da deres fedre vakte min vrede," sier Yahve, hærskarenes Gud, "og jeg angret ikke;

For thus says Yahweh of hosts: "As I thought to do evil to you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath," says Yahweh of Hosts, "and I didn't repent;

15 slik har jeg igjen tenkt i disse dager å gjøre godt for Jerusalem og Judas hus. Frykt ikke.

so again have I thought in these days to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. Don't be afraid.

16 Dette er de tingene dere skal gjøre: Hver av dere skal tale sannhet med sin neste. Utfør sannhetens og fredens rett ved portene deres,

These are the things that you shall do: speak every man the truth with his neighbor. Execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates,

17 og la ingen av dere tenke ut ondskap i sine hjerter mot sin neste, og elsk ingen falsk ed: for alle disse er ting jeg hater," sier Yahve.

and let none of you devise evil in your hearts against his neighbor, and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate," says Yahweh.

18 Yahves, hærskarenes Guds ord kom til meg.

The word of Yahweh of Hosts came to me.

19 Så sier Yahve, hærskarenes Gud: "Fastene i den fjerde, femte, sjuende og tiende måneden skal være for Judas hus glede og jubel, og festdager med glede. Elsk derfor sannhet og fred."

Thus says Yahweh of Hosts: "The fasts of the fourth fifth, seventh, and tenth months shall be for the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts. Therefore love truth and peace."

20 Så sier Yahve, hærskarenes Gud: "Mange folk, og innbyggerne fra mange byer vil komme;

Thus says Yahweh of Hosts: "Many peoples, and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come;

21 og innbyggerne i én by skal gå til en annen, og si: 'La oss gå med hast for å be om Yahves gunst, og for å søke Yahve, hærskarenes Gud. Jeg vil også gå.'"

and the inhabitants of one shall go to another, saying, 'Let us go speedily to entreat the favor of Yahweh, and to seek Yahweh of Hosts. I will go also.'

22 Ja, mange folk og sterke nasjoner vil komme for å søke Yahve, hærskarenes Gud i Jerusalem, og be om Yahves gunst."

Yes, many peoples and strong nations will come to seek Yahweh of Hosts in Jerusalem, and to entreat the favor of Yahweh."

23 Så sier Yahve, hærskarenes Gud: "I de dager, vil ti menn ta tak, fra alle folkene og språkene til nasjonene, de vil gripe tak i kanten av kappen til en jøde, og si: 'Vi vil gå med deg, for vi har hørt at Gud er med deg.'"

Thus says Yahweh of Hosts: "In those days, ten men will take hold, out of all the languages of the nations, they will take hold of the skirt of him who is a Jew, saying, 'We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.'"
