1 På den tiden sa Herren til meg: Lag to steintavler, lik de første, og kom opp til meg på fjellet. Du skal også lage en ark av tre.

`At that time hath Jehovah said unto me, Grave for thee two tables of stone, like the first, and come up unto Me, into the mount, and thou hast made for thee an ark of wood,

2 Jeg skal skrive på tavlene de ordene som var på de første tavlene, som du brøt, og du skal legge dem i arken.

and I write on the tables the words which were on the first tables, which thou hast broken, and thou hast placed them in the ark;

3 Så laget jeg en ark av akasietre, hogg ut to steintavler som de første, og jeg gikk opp på fjellet med de to tavlene i hånden.

and I make an ark of shittim wood, and grave two tables of stone like the first, and go up to the mount, and the two tables in my hand.

4 Han skrev på tavlene, i samsvar med den første skriften, de ti budene som Herren talte til dere på fjellet ut fra ilden på forsamlingens dag, og Herren ga dem til meg.

`And He writeth on the tables, according to the first writing, the Ten Matters, which Jehovah hath spoken unto you in the mount, out of the midst of the fire, in the day of the assembly, and Jehovah giveth them unto me,

5 Jeg vendte tilbake og gikk ned fra fjellet og la tavlene i arken som jeg hadde laget, slik som Herren hadde befalt meg, og der er de fortsatt.

and I turn and come down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made, and they are there, as Jehovah commanded me.

6 Israels barn dro fra Beerot Bene-Jaakan til Mosera. Der døde Aron, og der ble han begravet. Og hans sønn Eleasar ble prest i hans sted.

`And the sons of Israel have journeyed from Beeroth of the sons of Jaakan to Mosera, there Aaron died, and he is buried there, and Eleazar his son doth act as priest in his stead;

7 Fra der dro de videre til Gudgoda, og fra Gudgoda til Jotbata, et land med bekker av vann.

thence they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of brooks of water.

8 På den tiden skilte Herren ut Levis stamme for å bære Herrens paktsark, for å stå framfor Herren og tjene ham, og for å velsigne i hans navn, som de gjør den dag i dag.

`At that time hath Jehovah separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, to stand before Jehovah, to serve Him, and to bless in His name, unto this day,

9 Derfor har ikke Levi fått noen del og arv sammen med sine brødre; Herren selv er deres arv, som Herren din Gud har sagt til dem.

therefore there hath not been to Levi a portion and inheritance with his brethren; Jehovah Himself `is' his inheritance, as Jehovah thy God hath spoken to him.

10 Jeg sto på fjellet, som de første dagene, i førti dager og førti netter, og Herren hørte også denne gangen på meg, og Herren ville ikke ødelegge deg.

`And I -- I have stood in the mount, as the former days, forty days and forty nights, and Jehovah hearkeneth unto me also at that time; Jehovah hath not willed to destroy thee.

11 Herren sa til meg: Reis deg, led folket på vei, så de kan gå inn og ta landet som jeg har sverget til deres fedre å gi dem.

`And Jehovah saith unto me, Rise, go to journey before the people, and they go in and possess the land which I have sworn to their fathers to give to them.

12 Og nå, Israel, hva er det Herren din Gud krever av deg uten at du skal frykte Herren din Gud, vandre i alle hans veier, elske ham, og tjene Herren din Gud av hele ditt hjerte og av hele din sjel,

`And now, Israel, what is Jehovah thy God asking from thee, except to fear Jehovah thy God, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul,

13 og holde Herrens bud og hans forskrifter som jeg befaler deg i dag, til ditt eget beste?

to keep the commands of Jehovah, and His statutes which I am commanding thee to-day, for good to thee?

14 Se, himlene og himlenes himler, jorden og alt som er på den, tilhører Herren din Gud.

`Lo, to Jehovah thy God `are' the heavens and the heavens of the heavens, the earth and all that `is' in it;

15 Kun i dine fedre hadde Herren glede, og han elsket dem, og han valgte dere, deres etterkommere, blant alle folkene, som det er i dag.

only in thy fathers hath Jehovah delighted -- to love them, and He doth fix on their seed after them -- on you, out of all the peoples as `at' this day;

16 Omskjær derfor forhuden på deres hjerter, og vær ikke harde i nakken lenger.

and ye have circumcised the foreskin of your heart, and your neck ye do not harden any more;

17 For Herren deres Gud er gudenes Gud og herrenes Herre, den store, mektige og fryktinngytende Gud, som ikke gjør forskjell på folk og ikke tar imot bestikkelser.

for Jehovah your God -- He `is' God of the gods, and Lord of the lords; God, the great, the mighty, and the fearful; who accepteth not persons, nor taketh a bribe;

18 Han sørger for rettferdighet for den farløse og enken, og elsker innflytteren ved å gi ham mat og klær.

He is doing the judgment of fatherless and widow, and loving the sojourner, to give to him bread and raiment.

19 Så skal dere også elske innflytteren, for dere var selv innflyttere i Egypt.

`And ye have loved the sojourner, for sojourners ye were in the land of Egypt.

20 Du skal frykte Herren din Gud, tjene ham, holde deg til ham, og sverge ved hans navn.

`Jehovah thy God thou dost fear, Him thou dost serve, and to Him thou dost cleave, and by His name thou dost swear.

21 Han er din lovsang, og han er din Gud, som har gjort disse store og formidable ting som dine øyne har sett.

He `is' thy praise, and He `is' thy God, who hath done with thee these great and fearful `things' which thine eyes have seen:

22 Med sytti sjeler dro dine fedre ned til Egypt, og nå har Herren din Gud gjort deg så tallrik som stjernene på himmelen.

with seventy persons did thy fathers go down to Egypt, and now hath Jehovah thy God made thee as stars of the heavens for multitude.
