1 Moses gikk og talte disse ordene til hele Israel,

And Moses goeth and speaketh these words unto all Israel,

2 og han sa til dem: "I dag er jeg hundre og tjue år gammel; jeg kan ikke lenger gå ut og inn, og Herren har sagt til meg: Du skal ikke krysse over denne Jordan.

and he saith unto them, `A son of a hundred and twenty years `am' I to-day; I am not able any more to go out and to come in, and Jehovah hath said unto me, Thou dost not pass over this Jordan,

3 Herren din Gud skal gå foran deg. Han vil ødelegge disse folkene foran deg, og du skal ta deres land i eie. Josva skal gå foran deg, slik Herren har sagt.

`Jehovah thy God He is passing over before thee, He doth destroy these nations from before thee, and thou hast possessed them; Joshua -- he is passing over before thee as Jehovah hath spoken,

4 Herren vil gjøre med dem som han gjorde med Sihon og Og, amorittenes konger, og med deres land, som han ødela.

and Jehovah hath done to them as he hath done to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorite, and to their land, whom He destroyed.

5 Herren vil overgi dem til dere, og dere skal gjøre med dem alt det jeg har befalt dere.

And Jehovah hath given them before your face, and ye have done to them according to all the command which I have commanded you;

6 Vær sterke og modige, frykt ikke og vær ikke redde for dem, for Herren din Gud går med deg. Han vil ikke svikte deg eller forlate deg."

be strong and courageous, fear not, nor be terrified because of them, for Jehovah thy God `is' He who is going with thee; He doth not fail thee nor forsake thee.'

7 Så kalte Moses på Josva og sa til ham i all Israels påsyn: "Vær sterk og modig! For du skal gå inn med dette folket i det landet som Herren sverget å gi deres fedre, og du skal overlate det til dem som arv.

And Moses calleth for Joshua, and saith unto him before the eyes of all Israel, `Be strong and courageous, for thou -- thou dost go in with this people unto the land which Jehovah hath sworn to their fathers to give to them, and thou -- thou dost cause them to inherit it;

8 Herren er den som går foran deg. Han vil være med deg; han vil ikke svikte deg eller forlate deg. Frykt ikke og vær ikke redde."

and Jehovah `is' He who is going before thee, He himself is with thee; He doth not fail thee nor forsake thee; fear not, nor be affrighted.'

9 Så skrev Moses denne loven og ga den til prestene, Levis sønner, som bar Herrens paktkiste, og til alle Israels eldste.

And Moses writeth this law, and giveth it unto the priests (sons of Levi, those bearing the ark of the covenant of Jehovah), and unto all the elders of Israel,

10 Og Moses befalte dem og sa: "Ved slutten av hvert syvende år, i den fastsatte tid, frigivelsesåret, under løvhyttefesten,

and Moses commandeth them, saying, `At the end of seven years, in the appointed time, the year of release, in the feast of booths,

11 når hele Israel kommer for å vise seg for Herren i det stedet som han velger, skal dere lese denne loven opp for hele Israel så de hører den.

in the coming in of all Israel to see the face of Jehovah in the place which He chooseth, thou dost proclaim this law before all Israel, in their ears.

12 Samle folket, mennene, kvinnene og barna, og den fremmede som er innenfor dine porter, så de kan høre og lære å frykte Herren deres Gud og akte på å gjøre alle ordene i denne loven.

`Assemble the people, the men, and the women, and the infants, and thy sojourner who `is' within thy gates, so that they hear, and so that they learn, and have feared Jehovah your God, and observed to do all the words of this law;

13 Og deres barn, som ikke kjenner den, skal høre og lære å frykte Herren deres Gud alle de dagene dere lever på den jord som dere skal krysse Jordan for å ta i eie."

and their sons, who have not known, do hear, and have learned to fear Jehovah your God all the days which ye are living on the ground whither ye are passing over the Jordan to possess it.'

14 Og Herren sa til Moses: "Se, dine dager er kommet nær til å dø. Kall Josva og still dere i møteteltet, så jeg kan innsette ham." Så gikk Moses og Josva og stilte seg i møteteltet.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Lo, thy days have drawn near to die; call Joshua, and station yourselves in the tent of meeting, and I charge him;' and Moses goeth -- Joshua also -- and they station themselves in the tent of meeting,

15 Og Herren viste seg i teltet i en skystøtte, og skystøtten sto ved inngangen til teltet.

and Jehovah is seen in the tent, in a pillar of a cloud; and the pillar of the cloud standeth at the opening of the tent.

16 Og Herren sa til Moses: "Se, du skal legge deg til hvile hos dine fedre, og dette folket vil stå opp og gå etter fremmede guder i landet de er kommet til, og de vil forlate meg og bryte min pakt som jeg har gjort med dem.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Lo, thou art lying down with thy fathers, and this people hath risen, and gone a-whoring after the gods of the stranger of the land into the midst of which it hath entered, and forsaken Me, and broken My covenant which I made with it;

17 Da vil min vrede brenne mot dem på den dagen, og jeg vil forlate dem og skjule mitt ansikt for dem, og de skal bli fortært, og mange ulykker og trengsler vil ramme dem. Da vil de si på den dagen: 'Er det ikke fordi vår Gud ikke er blant oss at disse ulykkene har rammet oss?'

and Mine anger hath burned against it in that day, and I have forsaken them, and hidden My face from them, and it hath been for consumption, and many evils and distresses have found it, and it hath said in that day, Is it not because that my God is not in my midst -- these evils have found me?

18 Men jeg vil visselig skjule mitt ansikt på den dagen på grunn av alt det onde de har gjort, fordi de har vendt seg til andre guder.

and I certainly hide My face in that day for all the evil which it hath done, for it hath turned unto other gods.

19 Skriv derfor ned denne sangen og lær den til Israels barn. Legg den i deres munn, så denne sangen kan være et vitne for meg mot Israels barn.

`And now, write for you this song, and teach it the sons of Israel; put it in their mouths, so that this song is to Me for a witness against the sons of Israel,

20 Når jeg fører dem inn i det landet jeg har sverget til deres fedre, et land som flyter av melk og honning, og de har spist seg mette og blitt rike, vil de vende seg til andre guder og tjene dem og forakte meg og bryte min pakt.

and I bring them in unto the ground which I have sworn to their fathers -- flowing with milk and honey, and they have eaten, and been satisfied, and been fat, and have turned unto other gods, and they have served them, and despised Me, and broken My covenant.

21 Og når mange ulykker og trengsler møter dem, skal denne sangen være et vitne mot dem, for den vil ikke bli glemt av deres etterkommere. For jeg kjenner deres tanker, hva de gjør allerede i dag, før jeg fører dem inn i det landet jeg sverget om."

`And it hath been, when many evils and distresses do meet it, that this song hath testified to its face for a witness; for it is not forgotten out of the mouth of its seed, for I have known its imagining which it is doing to-day, before I bring them in unto the land of which I have sworn.'

22 Moses skrev denne sangen samme dag og lærte den til Israels barn.

And Moses writeth this song on that day, and doth teach it the sons of Israel,

23 Og han befalte Josva, Nuns sønn, og sa: "Vær sterk og modig, for du skal føre Israels barn inn i det landet som jeg har sverget til dem, og jeg vil være med deg."

and He commandeth Joshua son of Nun, and saith, `Be strong and courageous, for thou dost bring in the sons of Israel unto the land which I have sworn to them, and I -- I am with thee.'

24 Da Moses var ferdig med å skrive ordene i denne loven i en bok, til dens fullendelse,

And it cometh to pass, when Moses finisheth to write the words of this law on a book till their completion,

25 befalte Moses levittene som bar Herrens paktkiste og sa:

that Moses commandeth the Levites bearing the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, saying,

26 «Ta denne lovens bok og legg den ved siden av Herrens paktkiste, deres Gud, og den skal være der som et vitne mot deg.

`Take this Book of the Law, and thou hast set it on the side of the ark of the covenant of Jehovah your God, and it hath been there against thee for a witness;

27 For jeg kjenner din trassighet og din harde nakke. Se, mens jeg ennå lever blant dere i dag, har dere vært opprørske mot Herren, og hvor mye mer etter min død?

for I -- I have known thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck; lo, in my being yet alive with you to-day, rebellious ye have been with Jehovah, and also surely after my death.

28 Samle til meg alle stammeeldste og deres ledere, så jeg kan tale disse ordene i deres påhør, og jeg vil kalle himmelen og jorden til vitne mot dem.

`Assemble unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your authorities, and I speak in their ears these words, and cause to testify against them the heavens and the earth,

29 For jeg vet at etter min død vil dere handle fordervelig og vike av fra den vei jeg har pålagt dere, og til slutt vil ondskap komme over dere, fordi dere har gjort det som er ondt i Herrens øyne og provosert ham med deres gjerninger."

for I have known that after my death ye do very corruptly, and have turned aside out of the way which I commanded you, and evil hath met you in the latter end of the days, because ye do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, to make Him angry with the work of your hands.'

30 Moses talte hele denne sangens ord i all Israels forsamling, til dens fullendelse:

And Moses speaketh in the ears of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song, till their completion: --
