1 I den åttende måneden, i Darius' andre år, kom et ord fra Herren til Sakarja, sønn av Berekja, sønn av Iddo, profeten, og sa:

In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been unto Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:

2 Herren var full av harme mot deres fedre — vrede!

`Jehovah was wroth against your fathers -- wrath!

3 Og du skal si til dem: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Vend om til meg, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, så vil jeg vende meg til dere, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud.

And thou hast said unto them, Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, turn back unto Me, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, And I turn back unto you, said Jehovah of Hosts.

4 Ikke vær som deres fedre, som de tidligere profetene ropte til og sa: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Vend om, jeg ber dere, fra deres onde veier og deres onde gjerninger. Men de hørte ikke og aktet ikke på meg, sier Herren.

Ye shall not be as your fathers, To whom the former prophets called, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Turn back I pray you, From your evil ways and from your evil doings, And they did not hearken, Nor attend to Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah.

5 Deres fedre — hvor er de nå? Og profetene — lever de evig?

Your fathers -- where `are' they? And the prophets -- to the age do they live?

6 Men mine ord og mine lover, som jeg befalte mine tjenere profetene, rakk de ikke deres fedre? Og de vendte om og sa: Som Herren, hærskarenes Gud, hadde tenkt å gjøre med oss, etter våre veier og våre gjerninger, slik har han gjort med oss.

Only, My words, and My statutes, That I commanded My servants the prophets, Have they not overtaken your fathers, And they turn back and say: As Jehovah of Hosts designed to do to us, According to our ways, and according to our doings, So He hath done to us?'

7 På den tjuefjerde dagen i den ellevte måneden, som er måneden Sebat, i Darius' andre år, kom et ord fra Herren til Sakarja, sønn av Berekja, sønn av Iddo, profeten, og sa:

On the twenty and fourth day of the eleventh month, (it `is' the month of Sebat,) in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been unto Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:

8 Jeg så om natten, og se, en mann som red på en rød hest, og han sto blant myrtene i skyggen, og bak ham var hester, røde, brune og hvite.

I have seen by night, and lo, one riding on a red horse, and he is standing between the myrtles that `are' in the shade, and behind him `are' horses, red, bay, and white.

9 Og jeg sa: Hva er disse, herre? Og budbringeren som talte med meg, sa til meg: Jeg skal vise deg hva de er.

And I say, `What `are' these, my lord?' And the messenger who is speaking with me saith unto me, `I -- I do shew thee what these `are'.'

10 Og han som sto blant myrtene, svarte og sa: Dette er de Herren har sendt for å vandre omkring på jorden.

And the one who is standing between the myrtles doth answer and say, `These `are' they whom Jehovah hath sent to walk up and down in the land.'

11 Og de svarte Herrens budbringer som sto blant myrtene og sa: Vi har vandret omkring på jorden, og se, hele jorden ligger i ro og er stille.

And they answer the messenger of Jehovah who is standing between the myrtles, and say, `We have walked up and down in the land, and lo, all the land is sitting still, and at rest.'

12 Og Herrens budbringer svarte og sa: Herre, hærskarenes Gud! Hvor lenge vil du ikke ha medfølelse med Jerusalem og Judas byer, som du har foraktet i disse sytti år?

And the messenger of Jehovah answereth and saith, `Jehovah of Hosts! till when dost Thou not pity Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, that Thou hast abhorred these seventy years?'

13 Og Herren svarte budbringeren som talte med meg, med gode og trøstende ord.

And Jehovah answereth the messenger, who is speaking with me, good words, comfortable words.

14 Og budbringeren som talte med meg, sa til meg: Rop og si: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Jeg er nidkjær for Jerusalem og Sion med stor iver.

And the messenger who is speaking with me, saith unto me, `Call, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: I have been zealous for Jerusalem, and for Zion `with' great zeal.

15 Og med stor vrede er jeg harm på folkene som er i ro, for jeg var litt harm, men de hjalp — for ondt.

And `with' great wrath I am wroth against the nations who are at ease, For I was a little wroth, and they assisted -- for evil.

16 Derfor sier Herren: Jeg har vendt meg mot Jerusalem med barmhjertighet; mitt hus skal bygges der, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, og en målesnor skal strekkes over Jerusalem.

Therefore, thus said Jehovah: I have turned to Jerusalem with mercies, My house is built in it, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, And a line is stretched over Jerusalem.

17 Rop igjen og si: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Igjen skal mine byer flyte over av godhet, og Herren skal igjen trøste Sion og velge Jerusalem.

Again call, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Again do my cities overflow from good, And Jehovah hath again comforted Zion, And He hath fixed again on Jerusalem.'

18 Og jeg løftet mine øyne og så, og se, fire horn.

And I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, four horns.

19 Og jeg sa til budbringeren som talte med meg: Hva er disse? Og han sa til meg: Dette er hornene som har spredt Juda, Israel og Jerusalem.

And I say unto the messenger who is speaking with me, `What `are' these?' And he saith unto me, `These `are' the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.'

20 Og Herren viste meg fire håndverkere.

And Jehovah doth shew me four artizans.

21 Og jeg sa: Hva kommer disse for å gjøre? Og han svarte og sa: Dette er hornene som har spredt Juda, slik at ingen kunne løfte hodet, og disse har kommet for å skremme dem, for å kaste ned hornene til folkene som løfter sitt horn mot Juda land for å spre det.

And I say, `What `are' these coming in to do?' And He speaketh, saying: `These `are' the horns that have scattered Judah, so that no one hath lifted up his head, and these come in to trouble them, to cast down the horns of the nations who are lifting up a horn against the land of Judah -- to scatter it.'
