1Job again took up his parable, and said,
2"Oh that I were as in the months of old, as in the days when God watched over me;
3when his lamp shone on my head, and by his light I walked through darkness,
4as I was in the ripeness of my days, when the friendship of God was in my tent,
6when my steps were washed with butter, and the rock poured out streams of oil for me,
7when I went forth to the city gate, when I prepared my seat in the street.

13"With God is wisdom and might. He has counsel and understanding.
5Most certainly my house is not so with God, yet he has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure, for it is all my salvation, and all [my] desire, although he doesn't make it grow.
15If I had said, "I will speak thus;" behold, I would have betrayed the generation of your children.
12As for me, you uphold me in my integrity, and set me in your presence forever.
14What then shall I do when God rises up? When he visits, what shall I answer him?

15I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame.

10Be it still my consolation, yes, let me exult in pain that doesn't spare, that I have not denied the words of the Holy One.
4"Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding.
2Of what use is the strength of their hands to me, men in whom ripe age has perished?
10But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I shall come forth like gold.
11My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned aside.
15My frame wasn't hidden from you, when I was made in secret, woven together in the depths of the earth.
16Your eyes saw my body. In your book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there were none of them.
23I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, before the earth existed.
