Verse 2

Thus saith the Lord, The people which escaped the sworde, founde grace in the wildernes: he walked before Israel to cause him to rest.

Exod 15:9-9 : 9 The enemie sayd, I wil pursue, I wil ouertake them, I will deuide the spoyle, my lust shall bee satisfied vpon them, I will drawe my sworde, mine hand shall destroy them. 10 Thou blewest with thy winde, the Sea couered them, they sanke as leade in the mightie waters.
Exod 17:8-9 : 8 Then came Amalek and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9 And Moses sayde to Ioshua, Chuse vs out men, and go fight with Amalek: to morowe I will stande on the toppe of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. 10 So Ioshua did as Moses bad him, & fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur, went vp to the top of the hill. 11 And when Moses helde vp his hande, Israel preuailed: but when he let his hande downe, Amalek preuailed. 12 Nowe Moses handes were heauy: therefore they tooke a stone and put it vnder him, and hee sate vpon it: and Aaron and Hur stayed vp his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side: so his hands were steady vntill the going downe of the sunne. 13 And Ioshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

Isa 63:7-9 : 7 I wil remember the mercies of the Lord and the prayses of the Lorde according vnto all that the Lord hath giuen vs, and for the great goodnesse toward the house of Israel, which hee hath giuen them according to his tender loue, and according to his great mercies. 8 For he saide, Surely they are my people, children that wil not lie: so he was their Sauiour. 9 In all their troubles he was troubled, and the Angel of his presence saued them: in his loue and in his mercie he redeemed them, and he bare them and caried them alwayes continually. 10 But they rebelled and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore was hee turned to be their enemie and he fought against them. 11 Then he remembred the olde time of Moses and his people, saying, Where is hee that brought them vp out of the Sea with the shepheard of his sheepe? where is he that put his holy Spirit within him? 12 He led them by the right hand of Moses with his owne glorious arme, deuiding the water before them, to make himselfe an euerlasting Name. 13 Hee led them through the deepe, as an horse in the wildernesse, that they should not stumble, 14 As the beast goeth downe into the valley, the Spirite of the Lorde gaue them rest: so diddest thou leade thy people, to make thy selfe a glorious Name.
Jer 2:2 : 2 Goe, and crie in the eares of Ierusalem, saying, Thus sayeth the Lord, I remember thee, with the kindenes of thy youth and the loue of thy marriage, when thou wentest after me in the wildernes in a lande that was not sowen.
Ezek 20:14-17 : 14 But I had respect to my Name, that it shoulde not bee polluted before the heathen in whose sight I brought them out. 15 Yet neuerthelesse, I lift vp mine hande vnto them in the wildernes that I would not bring them into the lande, which I had giuen them, flowing with milke and hony, which was pleasant aboue all landes, 16 Because they cast away my iudgments, and walked not in my statutes, but haue polluted my Sabbaths: for their heart went after their idoles. 17 Neuerthelesse, mine eye spared them, that I would not destroye them, neither would I consume them in the wildernes.
