Verse 12

Then said he also to him that had bidden him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friendes, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsemen, nor ye riche neighbours, lest they also bid thee againe, & a recompence be made thee.

Matt 6:1-4 : 1 Take heede that ye giue not your almes before men, to be seene of them, or els ye shall haue no reward of your Father which is in heaue. 2 Therefore when thou giuest thine almes, thou shalt not make a trumpet to be blowen before thee, as the hypocrites doe in the Synagogues and in the streetes, to be praysed of men. Verely I say vnto you, they haue their rewarde. 3 But when thou doest thine almes, let not thy left hand knowe what thy right hand doeth, 4 That thine almes may be in secret, and thy Father that seeth in secret, hee will rewarde thee openly.
Luke 6:32-36 : 32 For if yee loue them which loue you, what thanke shall ye haue? for euen the sinners loue those that loue them. 33 And if ye do good for them which do good for you, what thanke shall ye haue? for euen the sinners doe the same. 34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receiue, what thanke shall yee haue? for euen the sinners lend to sinners, to receiue the like. 35 Wherefore loue ye your enemies, and doe good, and lend, looking for nothing againe, and your rewarde shalbe great, and ye shalbe the children of the most High: for he is kinde vnto the vnkinde, and to the euill. 36 Be ye therefore mercifull, as your Father also is mercifull.
Prov 22:16 : 16 Hee that oppresseth the poore to increase him selfe, and giueth vnto the riche, shall surely come to pouertie.
Zech 7:5-7 : 5 Speake vnto all the people of the land, and to the Priests, and say, When ye fasted, & mourned in the fift & seuenth moneth, euen the seuentie yeeres, did ye fast vnto me? doe I approoue it? 6 And when ye did eate, and when ye did drinke, did ye not eate for your selues, and drinke for your selues? 7 Should ye not heare the wordes, which the Lord hath cryed by the ministerie of the former Prophets when Ierusalem was inhabited, and in prosperitie, & the cities thereof round about her, when the South and the plaine was inhabited?

Verely I say vnto you, that they haue their rewarde. 17 But when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face, 18 That thou seeme not vnto men to fast, but vnto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret, will rewarde thee openly.
