David samlet alle lederne i Israel, lederne av stammene, og kapteinene for avdelingene som tjenestegjorde for kongen på skift, og kapteinene over tusen og over hundre, og forvalterne over alt som tilhørte kongen og hans sønner, sammen med offiserene og de mektige mennene og alle tapre menn, til Jerusalem.

And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that ministered to the king by course, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards over all the substance and possession of the king, and of his sons, with the officers, and with the mighty men, and with all the valiant men, unto Jerusalem.

Da reiste kong David seg opp og sa: Hør meg, mine brødre og mitt folk: Jeg hadde i mitt hjerte å bygge et hvilested for Herrens paktsark, og for våre Guds fotskammel, og hadde gjort forberedelser til byggingen.

Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:

Men Gud sa til meg: Du skal ikke bygge et hus for mitt navn, for du har vært en krigsmann og har utøst blod.

But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood.

Likevel valgte Herren, Israels Gud, meg ut blant hele min fars hus til å være konge over Israel for alltid; for han valgte Juda til å være fører, og av Judas hus, min fars hus; og blant min fars sønner likte han meg til å gjøre meg til konge over hele Israel.

Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel:

Og av alle mine sønner – for Herren har gitt meg mange sønner – har han valgt ut min sønn Salomo til å sitte på Herrens kongedømme trone over Israel.

And of all my sons, (for the LORD hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.

Og han sa til meg: Din sønn Salomo, han skal bygge mitt hus og mine forgårder; for jeg har valgt ham til å være min sønn, og jeg vil være hans far.

And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

Dessuten vil jeg stadfeste hans kongedømme for alltid hvis han er trofast og følger mine bud og mine dommer, slik som i dag.

Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day.

Vær derfor nå, for hele overlegget av Israel, Herrens menighet, og i vår Guds nærvær, nidkjære for å holde og søke alle Herrens, deres Guds, bud, slik at dere kan eie dette gode landet og overlate det som arv til deres barn etter dere for alltid.

Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.

Og du, min sønn Salomo, kjenn din fars Gud og tjen ham med et fullkomment hjerte og et villig sinn; for Herren gransker alle hjerter og kjenner alle tankers intensjoner: hvis du søker ham, vil han la seg finne av deg; men hvis du forlater ham, vil han kaste deg bort for alltid.

And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

Vær derfor nå oppmerksom; for Herren har valgt deg til å bygge et hus for helligdommen: vær sterk og gjør det.

Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.

Da ga David til sin sønn Salomo planene for forhallen, bygningene deromkring, skattkamrene, de øvre rommene, de indre kamrene og stedet for barmhjertighetens stol.

Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the treasuries thereof, and of the upper chambers thereof, and of the inner parlours thereof, and of the place of the mercy seat,

Og planen for alt det han hadde ved ånden, for forgårdene til Herrens hus, alle rommene rundt omkring, skattkamrene i Guds hus, og for skattene av innviede ting.

And the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the LORD, and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries of the dedicated things:

Også for prestene og levittenes skift, og for alt arbeidet ved tjenesten i Herrens hus, og for alle tjenestens redskaper i Herrens hus.

Also for the courses of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and for all the vessels of service in the house of the LORD.

Han ga gull etter vekt for alt gullarbeidet for alle slags tjenester, og sølv også for alt sølvarbeidet etter vekt, for alle slags tjenester.

He gave of gold by weight for things of gold, for all instruments of all manner of service; silver also for all instruments of silver by weight, for all instruments of every kind of service:

Til og med vekten for lysestakene av gull, og for deres gullamper, etter vekt for hver lysestake og for lampene derpå, og for lysestakene av sølv etter vekten, både for lysestaken og for deres lamper, etter bruken for hver lysestake.

Even the weight for the candlesticks of gold, and for their lamps of gold, by weight for every candlestick, and for the lamps thereof: and for the candlesticks of silver by weight, both for the candlestick, and also for the lamps thereof, according to the use of every candlestick.

Og etter vekt ga han gull for skuebrødbordene, for hvert bord; og likeledes sølv for sølvbordene.

And by weight he gave gold for the tables of shewbread, for every table; and likewise silver for the tables of silver:

Også rent gull for kjøttgaflene, bollene og begerne; og for gullfatene ga han gull etter vekt for hvert fat; og likeledes etter vekt for hvert fat av sølv.

Also pure gold for the fleshhooks, and the bowls, and the cups: and for the golden basons he gave gold by weight for every bason; and likewise silver by weight for every bason of silver:

Og for røkelsesalteret, raffinerte gull etter vekt; og gull for mønsteret av kjerubvognene, som spredte ut sine vinger og dekket Herrens paktsark.

And for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the chariot of the cherubims, that spread out their wings, and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD.

Alt dette, sa David, med skriflig instruksjon fra Herren, har han forklart til meg, alle verkene i dette mønsteret.

All this, said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.

Og David sa til sin sønn Salomo: Vær sterk og modig, og gjør det; frykt ikke og bli ikke mismodig, for Herren Gud, min Gud, vil være med deg; han vil ikke svikte deg og ikke forlate deg før du har fullført alt arbeidet for tjenesten i Herrens hus.

And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.

Og se, prestene og levittenes skift, de skal være med deg i all Gudshusets tjeneste; og alle dyktige mennesker, de frivillige, skal være med deg for alle slags arbeid; også lederne og hele folket vil være helt under dine ordrer.

And, behold, the courses of the priests and the Levites, even they shall be with thee for all the service of the house of God: and there shall be with thee for all manner of workmanship every willing skilful man, for any manner of service: also the princes and all the people will be wholly at thy commandment.
