Da det hendte, da Salomo hadde fullført byggingen av Herrens hus og kongens hus, og alt det Salomo ønsket å gjøre,

And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king's house, and all Solomon's desire which he was pleased to do,

så viste Herren seg for Salomo for andre gang, som han hadde vist seg for ham i Gibeon.

That the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon.

Og Herren sa til ham: Jeg har hørt din bønn og din begjæring som du har gjort for meg. Jeg har helliget dette huset som du har bygd, for å sette mitt navn der for evig; mine øyne og mitt hjerte skal være der for alltid.

And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

Hvis du vil vandre for meg, slik din far David vandret, i hjertets oppriktighet og rettskaffenhet, for å gjøre alt jeg har påbudt deg, og holde mine lover og forskrifter:

And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:

Da vil jeg grunnfeste din kongs trone over Israel for alltid, slik jeg lovet din far David, og sa: Det skal ikke mangle deg en mann på Israels trone.

Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.

Men hvis dere vender dere bort fra å følge meg, dere eller barna deres, og ikke holder mine påbud og lover som jeg har lagt foran dere, men går og tjener andre guder og tilber dem,

But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them:

da vil jeg utrydde Israel fra det landet som jeg har gitt dem; og dette huset som jeg har helliget for mitt navn, vil jeg kaste bort fra min åsyn. Israel skal bli et ordspråk og en spott blant alle folk.

Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:

Og dette huset, som er opphøyet, skal alle som går forbi undres over, og de skal spotte og si: Hvorfor har Herren gjort slik mot dette landet og dette huset?

And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house?

Og de skal svare: Fordi de forlot Herren deres Gud, som førte deres fedre ut fra landet Egypt, og holdt seg til andre guder, og tilba dem og tjente dem. Derfor har Herren ført all denne ulykken over dem.

And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil.

Og det skjedde ved slutten av tjue år, da Salomo hadde fullført å bygge de to husene, Herrens hus og kongens hus,

And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD, and the king's house,

(Nå hadde Hiram, kongen av Tyre, forsynt Salomo med sedertre og sypresser og med gull etter alt hans ønske,) at kong Salomo da ga Hiram tjue byer i Galilea.

(Now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,) that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

Og Hiram kom fra Tyre for å se byene som Salomo hadde gitt ham; men de behaget ham ikke.

And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they pleased him not.

Og han sa: Hva er dette for byer som du har gitt meg, min bror? Og han kalte dem landet Kabuls land inntil denne dag.

And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day.

Og Hiram sendte til kongen ett hundre og tjue talenter gull.

And Hiram sent to the king sixscore talents of gold.

Og dette er årsaken til arbeidsplikten som kong Salomo påla: for å bygge Herrens hus, sitt eget hus, Millo, muren rundt Jerusalem, og Hazor, Megiddo og Gezer.

And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised; for to build the house of the LORD, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

For farao, kongen av Egypt, hadde dratt opp og inntatt Gezer, brent den med ild, og drept kanaanittene som bodde i byen. Og han ga den som en gave til sin datter, Salomos kone.

For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a present unto his daughter, Solomon's wife.

Salomo bygde Gezer, Nedre Bet-Horon,

And Solomon built Gezer, and Beth-horon the nether,

og Ba'alat og Tamar i ørkenen i landet,

And Baalath, and Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land,

og alle forrådsbyene som Salomo hadde, og byene for hans vogner, og byene for hans ryttere, og alt det Salomo ønsket å bygge i Jerusalem, i Libanon, og i hele hans rikes område.

And all the cities of store that Solomon had, and cities for his chariots, and cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

Og alt folket som ble igjen av amorittene, hetittene, perisittene, hivittene, og jebusittene, som ikke var av Israels barn,

And all the people that were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, which were not of the children of Israel,

deres etterkommere som var igjen etter dem i landet, dem kunne ikke Israels barn utrydde helt; på dem påla Salomo en arbeidsplikt som varer til denne dag.

Their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy, upon those did Solomon levy a tribute of bondservice unto this day.

Men av Israels barn gjorde Salomo ingen som treller; for de var krigsfolk, hans tjenere, hans fyrster, hans høvedsmenn, og befalingsmenn over hans vogner og ryttere.

But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no bondmen: but they were men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots, and his horsemen.

Dette var de ledende embetsmennene som hadde tilsyn med Salomos arbeid, fem hundre og femti, som hadde ledelse over dem som utførte arbeidet.

These were the chief of the officers that were over Solomon's work, five hundred and fifty, which bare rule over the people that wrought in the work.

Men faraos datter dro opp fra Davids by til huset som Salomo hadde bygd for henne. Da bygde han Millo.

But Pharaoh's daughter came up out of the city of David unto her house which Solomon had built for her: then did he build Millo.

Tre ganger i året ofret Salomo brennoffer og fredsoffer på det alter som han hadde bygd til Herren, og han brant røkelse på alteret som var foran Herren. Slik fullførte han huset.

And three times in a year did Solomon offer burnt offerings and peace offerings upon the altar which he built unto the LORD, and he burnt incense upon the altar that was before the LORD. So he finished the house.

Kong Salomo laget også en flåte av skip i Esjon-Geber, som ligger ved Elot, på kysten av Rødehavet, i Edoms land.

And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion-geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red sea, in the land of Edom.

Og Hiram sendte med flåten sine tjenere, sjøfolk som kjente havet, sammen med Salomos tjenere.

And Hiram sent in the navy his servants, shipmen that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.

Og de dro til Ofir og hentet gull derfra, fire hundre og tjue talenter, og brakte det til kong Salomo.

And they came to Ophir, and fetched from thence gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.
