Saul snakket til Jonathan, sin sønn, og til alle sine tjenere, og sa at de skulle drepe David.

And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.

Men Jonathan, Sauls sønn, hadde stor glede i David, og Jonathan fortalte David: «Min far Saul søker å drepe deg. Så jeg ber deg, ta vare på deg selv til morgenen, og opphold deg på et hemmelig sted og skjul deg.»

But Jonathan Saul's son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself:

«Og jeg vil gå ut og stå ved siden av min far på marken der du er, og jeg vil snakke med min far om deg; og det jeg får vite, det vil jeg fortelle deg.”

And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.

Jonathan talte godt om David til sin far Saul og sa til ham: «La ikke kongen synde mot sin tjener, mot David, for han har ikke syndet mot deg, og hans handlinger har vært svært gode mot deg.

And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good:

For han satte sitt liv på spill og drepte filisteren, og Herren utførte en stor frelse for hele Israel. Du så det, og du gledet deg. Hvorfor vil du da synde som uskyldig blod ved å drepe David uten grunn?”

For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

Og Saul lyttet til Jonathans ord, og Saul sverget: «Så sant Herren lever, han skal ikke drepes.»

And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As the LORD liveth, he shall not be slain.

Og Jonathan kalte på David, og Jonathan fortalte ham alt dette. Jonathan brakte David til Saul, og han var i hans nærvær som før.

And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan shewed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as in times past.

Og det ble krig igjen, og David dro ut og kjempet mot filisterne, og han slo dem med et stort slag, og de flyktet for ham.

And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.

Og en ond ånd fra Herren kom over Saul mens han satt i sin hus med spydet i hånden, og David spilte på harpen.

And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand.

Og Saul forsøkte å spidde David mot veggen med spydet, men David smatt unna Sauls nærvær, og spydet satt fast i veggen. David flyktet og unnslapp den natten.

And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin; but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.

Saul sendte også budbringere til Davids hus for å vokte ham, for å drepe ham om morgenen. Michal, Davids kone, sa til ham: «Hvis du ikke redder livet ditt i natt, vil du bli drept i morgen.»

Saul also sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David's wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain.

Så Michal lot David klatre ned gjennom et vindu, og han dro av sted, flyktet og kom unna.

So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.

Michal tok en husgud og la den i sengen, og la en pute av geitehår under hodet på den, og tildekket den med et teppe.

And Michal took an image, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster, and covered it with a cloth.

Da Saul sendte budbringere for å ta David, sa hun: «Han er syk.»

And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.

Da sendte Saul budbringerne tilbake for å se David, og sa: «Før ham opp til meg i sengen, så jeg kan drepe ham.»

And Saul sent the messengers again to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.

Da budbringerne kom inn, se, der var en husgud i sengen, med puten av geitehår under hodet.

And when the messengers were come in, behold, there was an image in the bed, with a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster.

Og Saul sa til Michal: «Hvorfor har du narret meg slik og latt min fiende slippe unna så han er gått?» Michal svarte Saul: «Han sa til meg: 'La meg gå, ellers dreper jeg deg.'»

And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me so, and sent away mine enemy, that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?

Dermed flyktet David og unnslapp, og han kom til Samuel i Rama og fortalte ham alt Saul hadde gjort mot ham. Han og Samuel bodde i Naiot.

So David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.

Det ble sagt til Saul: «Se, David er i Naiot i Rama.»

And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.

Så sendte Saul budbringere for å ta David; men da de så gruppen av profeter som profeterte, og Samuel som sto blant dem, kom Guds Ånd over Sauls budbringere, og de begynte også å profetere.

And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.

Da Saul fikk høre dette, sendte han andre budbringere, og de profeterte også. Saul sendte igjen budbringere en tredje gang, og de profeterte også.

And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.

Da dro han selv til Rama. Han kom til den store brønnen i Seku og spurte: «Hvor er Samuel og David?» Noen svarte: «Se, de er i Naiot i Rama.»

Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that is in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they be at Naioth in Ramah.

Han dro dit til Naiot i Rama. Guds Ånd kom også over ham, og han fortsatte å profetere helt til han kom til Naiot i Rama.

And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

Han kastet også av seg klærne og profeterte foran Samuel, og han lå der naken hele dagen og hele natten. Derfor sier man: «Er også Saul mellom profetene?»

And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?
