Da fortalte de David: Se, filisterne kjemper mot Keila og plyndrer treskeplassene.

Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors.

Da spurte David Herren: Skal jeg gå og slå disse filisterne? Og Herren sa til David: Gå og slå filisterne og redd Keila.

Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.

Men Davids menn sa til ham: Se, vi er redde her i Juda; hvor mye mer da hvis vi går til Keila mot filisternes hærer?

And David's men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?

Da spurte David Herren igjen. Og Herren svarte ham og sa: Stå opp, dra ned til Keila, for jeg vil gi filisterne i din hånd.

Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.

Så dro David og hans menn til Keila, kjempet mot filisterne, tok buskapen deres og slo dem med et stort massedrap. Slik reddet David innbyggerne i Keila.

So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

Da Abiatar, sønn av Ahimelek, flyktet til David i Keila, kom han med en efod i hånden.

And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.

Og det ble fortalt Saul at David hadde kommet til Keila, og Saul sa: Gud har gitt ham i min hånd, for han er stengt inne ved å gå inn i en by med porter og bommer.

And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.

Og Saul samlet hele folket til krig, for å gå ned til Keila og beleire David og hans menn.

And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.

David visste at Saul hemmelig planla ondt mot ham, og han sa til presten Abiatar: Bring hit efoden.

And David knew that Saul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.

Da sa David: Herre, Israels Gud, din tjener har hørt for visst at Saul søker å komme til Keila for å ødelegge byen for min skyld.

Then said David, O LORD God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.

Vil mennene i Keila overgi meg i hans hånd? Vil Saul komme ned, som din tjener har hørt? Herre, Israels Gud, jeg ber deg, si det til din tjener. Og Herren sa: Han vil komme ned.

Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O LORD God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the LORD said, He will come down.

Da sa David: Vil mennene i Keila overgi meg og mine menn i Sauls hånd? Og Herren sa: De vil overgi deg.

Then said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the LORD said, They will deliver thee up.

Da reiste David og hans menn, som var omkring seks hundre, seg og dro ut av Keila, og de vandret hvor de kunne. Saul fikk vite at David hadde sluppet unna fra Keila, og han avsto fra å dra dit.

Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbare to go forth.

David oppholdt seg i ødemarken i sterke tilfluktssteder, og ble værende i et fjell i Zips ødemark. Saul søkte ham hver dag, men Gud ga ham ikke i hans hånd.

And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.

David så at Saul hadde dratt ut for å ta hans liv, og David var i Zips ødemark i en skog.

And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.

Jonatan, Sauls sønn, sto opp og gikk til David i skogen, og styrket hans hånd i Gud.

And Jonathan Saul's son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.

Og han sa til ham: Frykt ikke; for min far Sauls hånd skal ikke finne deg. Du skal bli konge over Israel, og jeg skal være nest etter deg. Også min far Saul vet dette.

And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.

De to gjorde en avtale foran Herren, og David ble værende i skogen, mens Jonatan gikk hjem.

And they two made a covenant before the LORD: and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.

Da kom mennene fra Zif opp til Saul i Gibea og sa: David holder seg skjult hos oss i sterke tilfluktssteder i skogen, på åsen Hakhila, sør for Jesjimon.

Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?

Kom nå ned, konge, i henhold til all din sjels ønske, for å komme ned, og vi skal overgi ham i kongens hånd.

Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king's hand.

Saul sa: Velsignet være dere av Herren, for dere har medfølelse med meg.

And Saul said, Blessed be ye of the LORD; for ye have compassion on me.

Gå, ber jeg dere, forbered dere mer, og finn ut hvor hans oppholdssted er, og hvem som har sett ham der. For det er blitt fortalt meg at han er veldig listig.

Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who hath seen him there: for it is told me that he dealeth very subtilly.

Se derfor og ta kjennskap til alle de stedene hvor han gjemmer seg, og kom tilbake til meg med sikkerhet, så skal jeg gå med dere. Og hvis han er i landet, vil jeg søke ham gjennom alle tusenvis av Juda.

See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.

De gikk da til Zif foran Saul; men David og hans menn var i ødemarken Maon, i sletten sør for Jesjimon.

And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon.

Saul og hans menn dro også ut for å lete etter ham. De fortalte David, og derfor kom han ned til en klippe og var i Maons ødemark. Da Saul hørte det, forfulgte han David i Maons ødemark.

Saul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David: wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.

Saul gikk på den ene siden av fjellet, og David og hans menn på den andre siden av fjellet. David hastet for å komme unna for frykt for Saul; for Saul og hans menn hadde omringet David og hans menn for å fange dem.

And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them.

Men det kom en budbringer til Saul og sa: Skynd deg og kom, for filisterne har gjort innfall i landet.

But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land.

Da vendte Saul tilbake fra å forfølge David og dro mot filisterne; derfor kalte de det stedet Sela-Hammahlecoth.

Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Sela-hammahlekoth.

Og David dro opp derfra, og bodde i sterke tilfluktssteder ved En-Gedi.

And David went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds at En-gedi.
