Videre ber vi dere, brødre, og formaner dere ved Herren Jesus, at slik dere har mottatt fra oss hvordan dere skal leve og behage Gud, så skal dere forøke enda mer.

Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.

For dere vet hvilke bud vi ga dere ved Herren Jesus.

For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

For dette er Guds vilje, deres helliggjørelse, at dere skal avstå fra utukt:

For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

At hver enkelt av dere skal vite hvordan han skal håndtere sitt legeme i hellighet og ære;

That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

Ikke i begjærets lyst, slik som hedningene som ikke kjenner Gud:

Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

At ingen skal gå utover og bedra sin bror i noen sak, for Herren er den som straffer alt dette, slik vi også har advart dere og bevitnet.

That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

For Gud har ikke kalt oss til urenhet, men til hellighet.

For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

Den som derfor forakter, forakter ikke et menneske, men Gud, som også har gitt oss sin Hellige Ånd.

He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.

Men om broderkjærlighet trenger jeg ikke skrive til dere, for dere selv er lært av Gud til å elske hverandre.

But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

Og det gjør dere faktisk mot alle brødrene i hele Makedonia. Men vi ber dere, brødre, at dere vil vokse enda mer;

And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more;

Og strev etter å leve i ro, å ta vare på egne saker og arbeide med hendene deres, slik vi har befalt dere;

And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

Slik at dere kan vandre korrekt overfor dem som er utenfor, og ikke mangle noe.

That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.

Men jeg vil ikke at dere skal være uvitende, brødre, om dem som er sovnet inn, så dere ikke sørger som andre som ikke har håp.

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

For hvis vi tror at Jesus døde og sto opp igjen, så vil også Gud føre dem som er sovnet inn i Jesus, med seg.

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

For dette sier vi dere med Herrens ord, at vi som lever, som er tilbake til Herrens komme, skal ikke komme foran dem som er sovnet inn.

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

For Herren selv skal stige ned fra himmelen med et rop, med erkeengelens røst og med Guds basun, og de døde i Kristus skal først reises opp.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Deretter skal vi, som lever og er tilbake, bli rykket opp sammen med dem i skyene for å møte Herren i luften. Og slik skal vi alltid være med Herren.

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Trøst derfor hverandre med disse ordene.

Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
