Og Salomo, Davids sønn, styrket seg i sitt kongerike, og Herren hans Gud var med ham og opphøyde ham i stor grad.

And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.

Så talte Salomo til hele Israel, til høvedsmennene over tusen og hundre, til dommerne, og til alle lederne i Israel, overhodene for fedrene.

Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers.

Salomo og hele menigheten med ham dro til den høye stedet som var i Gibeon; for der var Guds møtetelt som Moses, Herrens tjener, hadde laget i ørkenen.

So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.

Men Guds ark hadde David brakt opp fra Kirjat-Jearim til det stedet David hadde forberedt for den, for han hadde slått opp et telt for den i Jerusalem.

But the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjath-jearim to the place which David had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.

Dessuten satte han kobberalteret som Besalel, Uri sønn, Hurs sønn, hadde laget, foran Herrens telthelligdom. Og Salomo og menigheten søkte dit.

Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.

Salomo gikk opp til kobberalteret foran Herren, som var ved møteteltet, og ofret tusen brennoffer på det.

And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.

Den natten viste Gud seg for Salomo og sa til ham: Be om hva jeg skal gi deg.

In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.

Og Salomo sa til Gud: Du har vist stor nåde mot min far David, og du har latt meg herske i hans sted.

And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead.

Nå, Herre Gud, la ditt løfte til min far David bli oppfylt, for du har gjort meg til konge over et folk så tallrikt som støvet på jorden.

Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.

Gi meg nå visdom og kunnskap, så jeg kan gå ut og komme inn blant dette folket. For hvem kan dømme dette ditt folk, som er så stort?

Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?

Og Gud sa til Salomo: Fordi dette var i ditt hjerte, og du ikke har bedt om rikdom, eiendeler, eller ære, heller ikke om livet til dine fiender, ei heller har bedt om et langt liv, men har bedt om visdom og kunnskap til deg selv for å dømme mitt folk, som jeg har gjort deg til konge over,

And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:

visdom og kunnskap er gitt deg. Og jeg vil gi deg rikdom, eiendeler, og ære, slik ingen konge før deg har hatt, og ingen etter deg skal ha maken til.

Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

Da kom Salomo tilbake fra den høye stedet som var i Gibeon til Jerusalem, fra foran møteteltet, og regjerte over Israel.

Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel.

Salomo samlet vogner og ryttere: han hadde tusen fire hundre vogner og tolv tusen ryttere, som han plasserte i vognbyene og hos kongen i Jerusalem.

And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

Kongen gjorde sølv og gull i Jerusalem så vanlig som steiner, og sedertrær så vanlige som morbærtrærne i dalene på grunn av overfloden.

And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the vale for abundance.

Og Salomo tok hester ut av Egypt og lintråd: kongens kjøpmenn mottok lintråden til en pris.

And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king's merchants received the linen yarn at a price.

Og de førte ut og bragte opp fra Egypt en vogn for seks hundre sekel sølv, og en hest for hundre og femti; på denne måten brakte de dem ut for alle kongene til hetittene og for kongene i Syria ved deres hjelp.

And they fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means.
