Og Guds Ånd kom over Asarja, Odeds sønn.

And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:

And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.

I lang tid har Israel vært uten den sanne Gud, uten en lærerprest og uten lov.

Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.

Men da de i sin nød vendte seg til Herren, Israels Gud, og søkte ham, lot han seg finne av dem.

But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.

I de tidene var det ingen fred for dem som gikk ut eller kom inn, men store plager rammet alle landenes innbyggere.

And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.

Og det var nasjon mot nasjon, og by mot by; for Gud brakte dem i vanskeligheter med all slags ulykker.

And nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city: for God did vex them with all adversity.

Vær derfor sterke, og la ikke hendene synke! For deres arbeid skal bli belønnet.

Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.

Når Asa hørte disse ordene og profetien fra profeten Oded, tok han mot, og fjernet de avskyelige avgudene fra hele Juda og Benjamin og fra byene han hadde tatt fra Efraimfjellene, og fornyet Herrens alter som var foran Herrens forhall.

And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the porch of the LORD.

Og han samlet hele Juda og Benjamin, sammen med de fremmede som var med dem fra Efraim, Manasse og Simeon; for mange fra Israel hadde sluttet seg til ham da de så at Herren hans Gud var med ham.

And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.

Så samlet de seg i Jerusalem i den tredje måneden, i det femtende året av Asas regjeringstid.

So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.

Og de ofret til Herren på det tidspunktet fra byttet de hadde brakt; syv hundre okser og syv tusen sauer.

And they offered unto the LORD the same time, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.

Og de inngikk en pakt om å søke Herren, sine fedres Gud, av hele sitt hjerte og hele sin sjel.

And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;

At den som ikke ville søke Herren, Israels Gud, skulle straffes med døden, enten liten eller stor, mann eller kvinne.

That whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

Og de sverget til Herren med høy røst, og med rop, og med trompeter og signalhorn.

And they sware unto the LORD with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.

Og hele Juda gledet seg over eden; for de hadde sverget av hele sitt hjerte og søkt ham med all sin lengsel, og han lot seg finne av dem; og Herren ga dem fred på alle kanter.

And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round about.

Når det gjaldt Ma'aka, moren til kong Asa, fjernet han henne fra dronningens posisjon fordi hun hadde laget et avgudsbilde i lunden; og Asa hogg ned hennes avgud, knuste den og brant den ved Kidron-bekken.

And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king, he removed her from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove: and Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

Men de høye stedene ble ikke fjernet fra Israel; likevel var Asas hjerte fullkomment alle hans dager.

But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.

Og han brakte inn i Guds hus det som hans far hadde viet, og det han selv hadde viet, sølv, gull og kar.

And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.

Og det var ikke mer krig før det femte og tredevte året av Asas regjeringstid.

And there was no more war unto the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.
