Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:

Nåde være med dere og fred fra Gud vår Far og Herren Jesus Kristus.

Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Lovet være Gud, vår Herre Jesu Kristi Far, barmhjertighetens Far, og all trøsts Gud;

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

han som trøster oss i all vår trengsel, så vi kan trøste dem som er i enhver nød, med den samme trøst som vi selv mottar fra Gud.

Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

For slik Kristi lidelser er rikelig til stede i oss, så er også vår trøst rikelig gjennom Kristus.

For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

Om vi blir plaget, er det til trøst og frelse for dere, som virker når de samme lidelsene vi også lider, må holdes ut; eller om vi blir trøstet, er det til trøst og frelse for dere.

And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.

Og vårt håp om dere er fast, fordi vi vet at slik dere tar del i lidelsene, vil dere også gjøre det i trøsten.

And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

For vi vil ikke, brødre, at dere skal være uvitende om vår nød som traff oss i Asia, at vi ble overbelastet utover våre krefter, slik at vi til og med mistet håpet om livet.

For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

Men vi hadde dommen over døden i oss selv, for at vi ikke skulle stole på oss selv, men på Gud som oppvekker de døde.

But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

Han som fridde oss fra en så stor død, og som frir oss; til ham stoler vi på at han også vil fri oss igjen;

Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

dere som også hjelper til ved forbønn for oss, slik at mange takksigelser kan gis av mange mennesker for den gave som er blitt skjenket oss gjennom mange.

Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

For vår glede er dette, vårt samvittighets vitnesbyrd, at vi i enkelhet og gudfryktig oppriktighet, ikke med kjødelig visdom, men ved Guds nåde, har oppført oss i verden, og spesielt mot dere.

For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

For vi skriver ikke noe annet til dere enn det dere leser eller erkjenner; og jeg stoler på at dere vil erkjenne det helt til enden;

For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;

slik dere også delvis har erkjent oss, at vi er deres glede, slik dere også er vår på Herren Jesu dag.

As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Og i denne tillit hadde jeg tenkt å komme til dere tidligere, for at dere kunne motta en fordel til;

And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;

og passere gjennom dere til Makedonia, og komme tilbake fra Makedonia til dere, og bli ledsaget av dere på veien mot Judea.

And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.

Da jeg derfor hadde dette i tankene, handlet jeg lettsindig? Eller det jeg planlegger, planlegger jeg etter kjødet, slik at det skulle være både ja ja og nei nei hos meg?

When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?

Men som Gud er trofast, var vårt ord til dere ikke ja og nei.

But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.

For Guds Sønn, Jesus Kristus, som ble forkynt blant dere av oss, jeg selv, Silvanus og Timoteus, var ikke ja og nei, men i ham var det ja.

For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.

For alle Guds løfter i ham er ja, og i ham er Amen, til Guds herlighet ved oss.

For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Han som styrker oss sammen med dere i Kristus, og har salvet oss, er Gud;

Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

som også har beseglet oss og gitt Åndens pant i våre hjerter.

Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

Jeg kaller Gud som mitt vitne på mitt liv, at for å skåne dere har jeg ennå ikke kommet til Korint.

Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.

Ikke fordi vi har herredømme over deres tro, men vi er medarbeidere av deres glede; for ved tro står dere fast.

Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
