Kjære brødre, vi vil at dere skal vite om Guds nåde som er gitt til menighetene i Makedonia.

Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;

Selv under stor prøvelse og trengsel har deres overflod av glede og dype fattigdom ført til rikdom i deres gavmildhet.

How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.

For jeg kan vitne om at de gav etter evne, ja, og til og med over evne, frivillig.

For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;

De ba oss inntrengende om å ta imot gaven og bli delaktige i tjenesten for de hellige.

Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.

Og de gjorde dette, ikke som vi håpet, men de gav seg først til Herren, og til oss ved Guds vilje.

And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.

Derfor ba vi Titus, om at slik han hadde begynt, måtte han også fullføre denne nåden hos dere.

Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also.

Akkurat som dere flommer over i alt - tro, tale, kunnskap, all iver og kjærlighet til oss - se til at dere også flommer over i denne nåde.

Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.

Jeg sier dette ikke som en befaling, men for å måle deres kjærlighets oppriktighet mot andres.

I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.

For dere kjenner vår Herre Jesu Kristi nåde: at selv om han var rik, ble han fattig for deres skyld, for at dere ved hans fattigdom skulle bli rike.

For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

Dette er mitt råd til dere: Dette er nyttig for dere, som for et år siden begynte, ikke bare å handle, men også å være villige.

And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago.

Så fullfør det nå, slik at fullbyrdelsen følger den villighet dere hadde til å begynne, etter hva dere har.

Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.

For hvis villigheten er tilstede, er det akseptabelt i henhold til hva man har, ikke hva man ikke har.

For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

Jeg mener ikke at andre skal bli lettet og dere belastet,

For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:

men at ved likhet skal deres overflod nå være til hjelp for deres mangel, slik at deres overflod også kan bli en hjelp for deres mangel: slik at det kan være likhet.

But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:

Som det står skrevet: 'Den som samlet mye hadde ikke for mye, og den som samlet lite hadde ingen mangel.'

As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.

Men takk til Gud, som har lagt den samme iver for dere i Titus' hjerte.

But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you.

For han tok virkelig oppfordringen; men han var enda mer ivrig, og dro til dere på eget initiativ.

For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you.

Vi har sendt med ham broren hvis ros er i evangeliet i alle menighetene.

And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches;

Ikke bare det, men han ble også utvalgt av menighetene til å reise med oss med denne nåden, som forvaltes av oss til Herrens ære, og for å vise deres rede bonde sind.

And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:

Vi ønsket å unngå at noen kunne kritisere oss for denne overfloden som forvaltes av oss.

Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us:

Vi vil gjøre ærlige ting, ikke bare for Herren, men også for mennesker.

Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

Vi har sendt med dem vår bror som ofte har vist seg pålitelig i mange ting, men nå enda mer ivrig, på grunn av den store tilliten jeg har til dere.

And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you.

Om noen spør etter Titus, han er min partner og medarbeider for dere: eller om våre brødre, de er menighetenes utsendinger, og Kristi ære.

Whether any do inquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be inquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.

Derfor, vis dem beviset på deres kjærlighet, og på vår ros over dere, foran menighetene.

Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.
