And after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines.

Han slo også Moab, og målte dem med et line, kastet dem ned til bakken; med to linjer målte han dem for å bli drept, og med en full linje for å beholde i live. På den måten ble moabittene Davids tjenere og brakte gaver.

And he smote Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became David's servants, and brought gifts.

David slo også Hadadezer, sønn av Rehob, kongen av Zoba, da han dro for å gjenvinne sitt land ved elven Eufrat.

David smote also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his border at the river Euphrates.

Og David tok fra ham tusen vogner, syv hundre ryttere og tjue tusen fotfolk. David ødela alle vognhestene, men beholdt hundre vogner.

And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for an hundred chariots.

Da syrerne fra Damaskus kom for å hjelpe Hadadezer, kongen av Zoba, drepte David toogtyve tusen syrere.

And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.

Så satte David garnisoner i Syria, i Damaskus. Og syrerne ble Davids tjenere og brakte gaver. Herren bevarte David uansett hvor han dro.

Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought gifts. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

David tok de skjold av gull som var på Hadadezers tjenere og brakte dem til Jerusalem.

And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

Fra Betah og Berotai, byer som tilhørte Hadadezer, tok kong David svært mye kobber.

And from Betah, and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took exceeding much brass.

Da Toi, kongen av Hamat, hørte at David hadde slått hele hæren til Hadadezer,

When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,

sendte Toi sin sønn Joram til kong David for å hilse på ham og velsigne ham, fordi han hadde kjempet mot Hadadezer og slått ham. For Hadadezer hadde vært i krig med Toi. Joram brakte med seg sølvkar, gullkar og kobberkar.

Then Toi sent Joram his son unto king David, to salute him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him: for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And Joram brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:

Disse dedikerte også kong David til Herren, sammen med sølvet og gullet han hadde tatt fra alle nasjoner som han hadde underlagt seg.

Which also king David did dedicate unto the LORD, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued;

Fra Syria, Moab, ammonittene, filisterne, Amalek og fra byttet av Hadadezer, sønn av Rehob, kongen av Zoba.

Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

David fikk et navn da han kom tilbake etter å ha slått syrerne i Saltdalen, atten tusen menn.

And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, being eighteen thousand men.

Og han satte garnisoner i Edom; over hele Edom satte han garnisoner, og alle i Edom ble Davids tjenere. Herren bevarte David uansett hvor han dro.

And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became David's servants. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

Og David regjerte over hele Israel, og David utførte rett og rettferdighet for hele sitt folk.

And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people.

Joab, sønn av Seruja, var over hæren, og Josjafat, sønn av Ahilud, var sekretær.

And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;

Sadok, sønn av Ahitub, og Ahimelek, sønn av Ebjatar, var prester; og Seraja var skriver.

And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Seraiah was the scribe;

Benaja, sønn av Jehojada, var over både keretittene og peletittene; og Davids sønner var hovedrådgivere.

And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were chief rulers.
