Apostlene og brødrene som var i Judea hørte at også hedningene hadde mottatt Guds ord.

And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

Da Peter kom opp til Jerusalem, diskuterte de av omskjærelsen med ham.

And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

De sa: Du gikk inn til uomskårne menn og spiste med dem.

Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

Men Peter begynte fra begynnelsen og forklarte saken i rekkefølge for dem, og sa:

But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

Jeg var i byen Joppa og ba, og mens jeg var i en transe, så jeg et syn: En bestemt stor duk ble fire hjørner ble senket ned fra himmelen, og den kom ned til meg.

I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:

Da jeg så nøye på den, betraktet jeg og så firbeinte dyr på jorden, ville dyr, krypende vesener og fugler i luften.

Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

Og jeg hørte en stemme som sa til meg: Reis deg, Peter; slakt og spis.

And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.

Men jeg sa: Ikke slik, Herre; for ingenting vanhellig eller urent har noensinne kommet inn i min munn.

But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.

Men stemmen svarte meg igjen fra himmelen: Det Gud har renset, skal du ikke kalle vanhellig.

But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

Dette skjedde tre ganger, og alt ble tatt opp igjen til himmelen.

And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

Og se, umiddelbart var det tre menn som allerede hadde kommet til huset der jeg var, sendt til meg fra Cæsarea.

And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.

Og Ånden ba meg dra med dem uten å tvile. Dessuten fulgte disse seks brødrene med meg, og vi gikk inn i mannens hus.

And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren companied me, and we entered into the man's house:

Han fortalte oss hvordan han hadde sett en engel i sitt hus som stod og sa til ham: Send noen til Joppa og kall på Simon, som har etternavnet Peter.

And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;

Som skal si deg ord ved hvilke du og hele ditt hus skal bli frelst.

Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

Og mens jeg begynte å tale, falt Den Hellige Ånd på dem, akkurat som på oss i begynnelsen.

And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

Da husket jeg Herrens ord, hvordan han sa: Johannes døpte med vann, men dere skal bli døpt med Den Hellige Ånd.

Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

Siden Gud ga dem den samme gaven som han ga oss, som trodde på Herren Jesus Kristus, hvem var jeg som kunne motstå Gud?

Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

Da de hørte dette, roet de seg og priste Gud, og sa: Så har Gud også gitt omvendelse til liv til hedningene.

When they heard these things, they held their pee, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Nå var de som ble spredt på grunn av forfølgelsen som oppstod omkring Stefanus, kommet så langt som til Fønikia, Kypros og Antiokia, og forkynte ordet kun til jødene.

Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, prehing the word to none but unto the Jews only.

Men noen av dem var fra Kypros og Kyrene; da de kom til Antiokia, talte de til grekerne og forkynte Herren Jesus.

And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, prehing the Lord Jesus.

Herrens hånd var med dem, og mange trodde og vendte seg til Herren.

And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

Ryktet om dette nådde menigheten i Jerusalem, og de sendte Barnabas til Antiokia.

Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.

Da han kom og så Guds nåde, ble han glad og oppmuntret dem alle til å holde seg nær til Herren med ro i hjertet.

Who, when he came, and had seen the gre of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

For han var en god mann, fylt av Den Hellige Ånd og tro, og mye folk ble lagt til Herren.

For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

Barnabas dro deretter til Tarsus for å lete etter Saulus.

Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:

Da han fant ham, tok han ham med til Antiokia. Det skjedde at de i et helt år samlet seg med menigheten og underviste mange. Og disiplene ble først kalt kristne i Antiokia.

And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

På den tiden kom profeter fra Jerusalem til Antiokia.

And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.

En av dem, ved navn Agabus, stod opp og varslet ved Ånden at det skulle bli en stor hungersnød over hele verden, og det skjedde i keiser Claudius' dager.

And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

Da bestemte disiplene, hver etter sine muligheter, å sende hjelp til brødrene som bodde i Judea.

Then the disciples, every man cording to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

Dette gjorde de også, og sendte det til de eldste ved hendene til Barnabas og Saulus.

Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
