Etter dette forlot Paulus Athen og dro til Korint.

After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;

Der fant han en jøde ved navn Akvilas, født i Pontus, som nylig var kommet fra Italia sammen med sin kone Priskilla, fordi Claudius hadde befalt at alle jøder skulle forlate Roma. Han oppsøkte dem.

And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.

Siden han hadde samme håndverk som dem, ble han hos dem og arbeidet; for de var teltmakere.

And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.

Hver sabbat samtalte han i synagogen, og overtalte både jøder og grekere.

And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

Da Silas og Timoteus kom fra Makedonia, ble Paulus drevet av Ånden og vitnet for jødene om at Jesus var Kristus.

And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Medonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

Men da de motsatte seg og spottet, ristet han klærne sine og sa til dem: Deres blod kommer over deres egne hoder; jeg er uskyldig. Fra nå av går jeg til hedningene.

And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

Så forlot han stedet og gikk inn i et hus til en mann ved navn Justus, som tilba Gud. Huset hans lå nær ved synagogen.

And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man's house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.

Krispus, lederen for synagogen, kom til tro på Herren med hele sitt hus, og mange av korinterne som hørte dette, kom også til tro og ble døpt.

And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

Herren talte til Paulus i et syn om natten: Vær ikke redd, men tal og vær ikke stille.

Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy pee:

For jeg er med deg, og ingen skal skade deg, for jeg har mye folk i denne byen.

For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

Og han ble der i ett og et halvt år, og underviste dem Guds ord.

And he continued there a year and six months, tehing the word of God among them.

Da Gallio var landshøvding i Akaia, gjorde jødene sammensvergelse mot Paulus og førte ham for domstolen.

And when Gallio was the deputy of haia, the Jews made insurrection with one cord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,

De sa: Denne mannen overbeviser folk om å tilbe Gud på en måte som er imot loven.

Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.

Da Paulus skulle til å åpne munnen, sa Gallio til jødene: Hvis dette var en forbrytelse eller onde gjerninger, kunne jeg, jøder, ha hørt på dere med fornuft.

And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:

Men hvis det er spørsmål om ord og navn og deres lov, må dere ordne opp i det selv; jeg vil ikke være dommer i slike saker.

But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.

Og han jaget dem vekk fra domstolen.

And he drave them from the judgment seat.

Da tok alle grekerne Softhenes, lederen for synagogen, og slo ham foran domstolen. Men Gallio brydde seg ikke om det.

Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.

Paulus ble der en god stund til, og tok så farvel med de troende og seilte derfra til Syria, og med ham var Priskilla og Akvilas. Han hadde klippet håret i Kenkreæ, for han hadde tatt en lovnad.

And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.

De kom til Efesos, og han forlot dem der. Men han selv gikk inn i synagogen og samtalte med jødene.

And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.

Da de ba ham om å bli lenger, samtykket han ikke,

When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;

men tok farvel og sa: Jeg må holde denne høytiden i Jerusalem, men jeg vil komme tilbake til dere, om Gud vil. Og han seilte fra Efesos.

But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.

Da han kom til Cæsarea, dro han opp, hilste på menigheten og dro så ned til Antiokia.

And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.

Etter å ha tilbrakt litt tid der, dro han avsted og reiste gjennom Galatia og Frygia, og styrket alle disiplene.

And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.

En jøde ved navn Apollos, født i Alexandria, en veltalende mann og dyktig i Skriftene, kom til Efesos.

And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.

Han var opplært i Herrens vei, og med brennende iver talte og underviste han nøye om det som hørte Herren til, men han kjente bare Johannes' dåp.

This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

Han begynte å tale frimodig i synagogen. Da Akvilas og Priskilla hørte ham, tok de ham til seg og forklarte ham Guds vei mer nøyaktig.

And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

Da han ønsket å dra til Akaia, skrev de troende brev og oppfordret disiplene til å ta imot ham. Da han kom dit, var han til stor hjelp for dem som ved nåde hadde kommet til tro.

And when he was disposed to pass into haia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through gre:

For han overbeviste jødene overbevisende og offentlig, mens han viste fra Skriftene at Jesus var Kristus.

For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
