Men en mann ved navn Ananias, sammen med sin kone Saffira, solgte en eiendom.

But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

Han holdt tilbake en del av prisen, med sin kones viten, og brakte en del av beløpet og la det for apostlenes føtter.

And kept bk part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

Men Peter sa: Ananias, hvorfor har Satan fylt ditt hjerte til å lyve for Den Hellige Ånd og holde tilbake en del av prisen for eiendommen?

But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep bk part of the price of the land?

Var den ikke din egen så lenge du hadde den? Og etter at den var solgt, var ikke pengene i din makt? Hvorfor har du satt deg fore dette i ditt hjerte? Du har ikke løyet for mennesker, men for Gud.

Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

Da Ananias hørte disse ordene, falt han ned og døde. Og stor frykt kom over alle som hørte om dette.

And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

De unge mennene reiste seg, svepte ham inn, bar ham ut og begravde ham.

And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

Omtrent tre timer senere kom hans kone inn, uten å vite hva som hadde skjedd.

And it was about the spe of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

Og Peter spurte henne: Fortell meg, solgte dere eiendommen for så mye? Og hun svarte: Ja, for så mye.

And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

Da sa Peter til henne: Hvordan har dere kunnet bli enige om å friste Herrens Ånd? Se, føttene til dem som har begravd din mann, står ved døren, og de skal bære deg ut.

Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

Straks falt hun ned ved hans føtter og døde. De unge mennene kom inn, fant henne død, bar henne ut og begravde henne ved siden av mannen.

Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

Og stor frykt kom over hele menigheten, og over alle som hørte om disse hendelsene.

And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

Ved apostlenes hender ble mange tegn og under gjort blant folket; og de var alle med ett sinnelag i Salomos søylegang.

And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one cord in Solomon's porch.

Ingen andre våget å slutte seg til dem, men folket holdt dem høyt.

And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

Og troende ble stadig lagt til Herren, mengder av både menn og kvinner.

And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

Så mye at de brakte de syke ut i gatene og la dem på senger og bårer, slik at i det minste skyggen av Peter som passerte forbi, kunne falle på noen av dem.

Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

Også en mengde mennesker kom fra byene rundt Jerusalem, og brakte syke og dem som var plaget av urene ånder, og alle ble helbredet.

There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

Da reiste øverstepresten seg, og de som var med ham, som er saddukeernes sekt, og de ble fulle av forargelse.

Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

Og de la hender på apostlene og satte dem i offentlig fengsel.

And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

Men Herrens engel åpnet fengselsdørene om natten, og førte dem ut og sa:

But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

Gå, stå og tal i tempelet til folket alle ordene om dette livet.

Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

Da de hørte dette, gikk de inn i tempelet ved morgengry og lærte. Men øverstepresten kom, og de som var med ham, kalte sammen rådet og hele de eldste av Israels barn, og sendte til fengselet for å få dem brakt.

And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

Men da tjenestemennene kom og ikke fant dem i fengselet, vendte de tilbake og fortalte det,

But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told,

og sa: Fengselet fant vi virkelig lukket med all sikkerhet, og vokterne sto utenfor foran dørene; men da vi åpnet, fant vi ingen der inne.

Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

Da øverstepresten, tempelvakten og yppersteprestene hørte dette, ble de rådvill over hva dette kunne føre til.

Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

Så kom en og fortalte dem: Se, de mennene dere satte i fengsel, står i tempelet og lærer folket.

Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and tehing the people.

Da gikk tempelvakten med tjenestemennene, og førte dem uten vold, for de fryktet folket, for å unngå å bli steinet.

Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

Og da de hadde ført dem frem, stilte de dem foran rådet, og øverstepresten spurte dem:

And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

Har vi ikke strengt forbudt dere å lære i dette navnet? Likevel har dere fylt Jerusalem med læren deres og prøver å føre dette menneskets blod over oss.

Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teh in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

Da svarte Peter og de andre apostlene: Vi må adlyde Gud mer enn mennesker.

Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Våre fedres Gud oppreiste Jesus, som dere drepte ved å henge ham på et tre.

The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

Ham har Gud opphøyd ved sin høyre hånd som fyrste og frelser, for å gi Israel omvendelse og syndenes tilgivelse.

Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

Og vi er vitner om disse tingene, og det er også Den Hellige Ånd, som Gud har gitt dem som adlyder ham.

And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Da de hørte dette, ble de såret i hjertet og rådslo om å drepe dem.

When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

Men en i rådet, en fariseer ved navn Gamaliel, en lovlærer som ble respektert av hele folket, reiste seg og befalte at apostlene skulle føres ut en stund.

Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little spe;

Og han sa til dem: Israels menn, vær på vakt for hva dere har tenkt å gjøre med disse menneskene.

And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

For noen dager siden reiste Theudas seg opp og hevdet at han var noe stort, som omkring fire hundre menn sluttet seg til. Han ble drept, og alle som fulgte ham ble spredt og gjort til intet.

For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

Etter ham reiste Judas fra Galilea seg under skrevedagene og dro mye folk etter seg; han også omkom, og alle som adlød ham, ble spredt.

After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

Og nå sier jeg til dere: Hold dere unna disse menneskene og la dem være, for hvis denne planen eller dette verket er av mennesker, vil det bli til intet.

And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

Men er det av Gud, kan dere ikke styrte det; ellers kan dere til og med bli funnet å kjempe mot Gud.

But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

De var enige med ham, og da de hadde kalt apostlene inn igjen, ga de dem stokkeslag og forbød dem å tale i Jesu navn og lot dem gå.

And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

Og de dro bort fra rådets nærvær, gledet seg over at de var funnet verdige til å lide skam for hans navns skyld.

And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

Og hver dag i tempelet, og i husene, fortsatte de å undervise og forkynne Jesus Kristus uten å holde opp.

And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teh and preh Jesus Christ.
