Ve over dem som lever i letthet på Sion, og stoler på Samarias fjell, de fremste blant folkeslagene, til hvem Israels hus kommer!

Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Saria, which are ned chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel ce!

Gå til Kalne og se, dra videre til det store Hamat, og gå så ned til Gat i Filisterland: Er de bedre enn disse rikene, eller er deres grense større enn deres grense?

Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

Dere som skyver den onde dagen langt bort, og får voldens trone til å komme nær;

Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

Dere som ligger på elfenbenssenger og strekker dere på divaner, og spiser lammene fra flokken og kalvene fra båsen;

That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lbs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

Dere som synger til lyden av harpen, og oppfinner instrumenter for dere selv, som David;

That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;

Dere som drikker vin av skåler og salver dere med den fineste olje, men sørger ikke over Josefs nød.

That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

Derfor skal de nå bli ført bort i fangenskap blant de første, og de som ligger strakt ut, skal miste sitt gjestebud.

Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

Herren Gud har sverget ved seg selv, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Jeg avskyr Jakobs stolthet, og hater hans palasser; derfor vil jeg overgi byen med alt som er i den.

The Lord GOD hath sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

Og det skal skje, hvis det er ti menn igjen i ett hus, skal de dø.

And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.

Og en manns onkel skal ta ham opp, sammen med den som brenner ham, for å bringe benene ut av huset, og skal si til den som er ved veggene i huset: Er det noen igjen hos deg? Og han skal svare: Nei. Da skal han si: Ti stille! For vi må ikke nevne Herrens navn.

And a man's uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the ne of the LORD.

For se, Herren befaler, og han vil slå det store huset med sprekker, og det lille huset med revner.

For, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.

Skal hester løpe på klipper, eller vil noen pløye der med okser? For dere har gjort rettferd til gift, og frukten av rettferdighet til malurt:

Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

Dere som fryder dere over en betydningsløs sak, som sier: Har vi ikke med vår egen styrke tatt oss horn?

Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?

Men se, jeg vil reise en nasjon mot dere, Israels hus, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud; og de skal plage dere fra Hemats inngangsport til ørkenens elv.

But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.
