Så viste Herren Gud meg: Se, han dannet gresshopper i begynnelsen av det siste gress, etter at kongens slått var over.

Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.

Og det skjedde, da de var ferdige med å spise gresset i landet, så sa jeg: Å, Herre Gud, tilgi, jeg ber deg: Hvordan skal Jakob reise seg? For han er liten.

And it ce to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

Herren angret det: Det skal ikke skje, sier Herren.

The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD.

Slik viste Herren Gud meg: Se, Herren Gud kalte til strid ved ild, og den fortærte det store dypet og fortærte en del.

Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.

Da sa jeg: Å, Herre Gud, stans, jeg ber deg: Hvordan skal Jakob reise seg? For han er liten.

Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

Herren angret også dette: Det skal heller ikke skje, sier Herren Gud.

The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD.

Slik viste Herren meg: Se, Herren stod ved en mur laget med et lodd, med et lodd i hånden.

Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

Og Herren sa til meg: Amos, hva ser du? Jeg svarte: Et lodd. Da sa Herren: Se, jeg vil sette et lodd midt i mitt folk Israel: Jeg vil ikke tilgi dem lenger.

And the LORD said unto me, os, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

Isaks høye steder skal bli øde, og Israels helligdommer skal ligge i ruiner; og jeg vil reise meg mot Jeroboams hus med sverdet.

And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jerobo with the sword.

Da sendte Amasja, presten i Betel, bud til Jeroboam, Israels konge, og sa: Amos har sammensverget seg mot deg midt i Israels hus; landet kan ikke bære alle hans ord.

Then aziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jerobo king of Israel, saying, os hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

For slik sier Amos: Jeroboam skal dø ved sverdet, og Israel skal bli ført bort i fangenskap fra sitt land.

For thus os saith, Jerobo shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.

Dessuten sa Amasja til Amos: Du seer, gå bort, flykt til landet Juda, tjen ditt brød der, og profeter der.

Also aziah said unto os, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:

Men profeter ikke lenger i Betel, for det er kongens helligdom, og det er kongens hoff.

But prophesy not again any more at Beth-el: for it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court.

Da svarte Amos og sa til Amasja: Jeg var ingen profet, heller ikke en profets sønn; men jeg var en gjeter og en plukker av morbærfrukt.

Then answered os, and said to aziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:

Og Herren tok meg mens jeg fulgte flokken, og Herren sa til meg: Gå, profeter til mitt folk Israel.

And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

Så hør nå Herrens ord: Du sier, profeter ikke mot Israel, og tal ikke mot Isaks hus.

Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.

Derfor sier Herren: Din kone skal bli en prostituert i byen, dine sønner og døtre skal falle for sverdet, ditt land skal deles opp med målesnor; og du skal dø i et urent land, og Israel skal sikkert gå i fangenskap bort fra sitt land.

Therefore thus saith the LORD; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.
