Hvis det blant dere står fram en profet, eller en drømmer av drømmer, og gir deg et tegn eller mirakel,

If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonr,

Og tegnet eller mirakelet inntreffer, som han talte til deg om, og han sier: La oss følge andre guder, som du ikke har kjent, og la oss tjene dem,

And the sign or the wonr come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;

Skal du ikke høre på ordene fra den profeten eller drømmeren av drømmer, for Herren deres Gud prøver dere for å vite om dere elsker Herren deres Gud av hele deres hjerte og hele deres sjel.

Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Dere skal følge Herren deres Gud, frykte ham, holde hans bud, lyde hans røst, tjene ham og holde fast ved ham.

Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

Og den profeten eller drømmeren av drømmer skal bli drept, fordi han talte for å vende dere bort fra Herren deres Gud, som førte dere ut av landet Egypt og forløste dere fra slavehuset, for å drive deg bort fra den veien Herren din Gud har befalt deg å vandre. Slik skal du fjerne det onde fra din midte.

And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to ath; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and reemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God command thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

Hvis din bror, sønnen av din mor, eller din sønn, eller din datter, eller din hustru i din favn, eller din venn som er som din egen sjel, lokker deg i hemmelighet og sier: La oss gå og tjene andre guder, som du ikke har kjent, du eller dine fedre;

If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

Nemlig gudene til folkeslagene rundt dere, enten de er nær deg eller langt fra deg, fra den ene enden av jorden til den andre enden av jorden;

Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;

Skal du ikke samtykke til ham eller høre på ham; ditt øye skal ikke spare ham, du skal ikke vise medlidenhet eller skjule ham:

Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:

Men du skal visselig drepe ham; din hånd skal være den første som legger hånd på ham for å drepe ham, og deretter alle folkets hender.

But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to ath, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

Og du skal steine ham til døde med steiner; fordi han søkte å drive deg bort fra Herren din Gud, som førte deg ut av landet Egypt, fra slavehuset.

And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

Og hele Israel skal høre om det og frykte, og de skal ikke mer gjøre noen slik ondskap blant dere.

And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

Hvis du hører si i en av dine byer, som Herren din Gud har gitt deg til å bo i:

If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying,

Visse menn, Belials barn, har gått ut fra blant dere og har forført innbyggerne i sin by, og sier: La oss gå og tjene andre guder, som dere ikke har kjent;

Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;

Da skal du undersøke, granske og spørre nøye; og se, hvis det er sant og en visshet at en slik avskyelighet har skjedd blant dere,

Then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you;

Skal du visselig slå innbyggerne i den byen med sverdets egg, tilintetgjøre den fullstendig med alt som er i den, og dens buskap, med sverdets egg.

Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, stroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.

Og du skal samle alt byttet derfra midt på torget, og brenne byen og alt byttet med ild, for Herren din Gud: og den skal være en ruinhaug for alltid; den skal ikke bygges opp igjen.

And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the LORD thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again.

Og ingenting av det forbannede skal bli ved din hånd: så Herren kan vende seg fra sin brennende vrede, og vise deg nåde og ha medfølelse med deg og mangfoldiggjøre deg, slik han har sverget til dine fedre;

And there shall cleave nought of the cursed thing to thine hand: that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;

Når du lytter til Herrens din Guds røst, for å holde alle hans bud som jeg befaler deg i dag, for å gjøre det som er rett i Herrens din Guds øyne.

When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD thy God.
