Hvert syvende år skal du innføre frigivelse.

At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release.

Og slik skal frigivelsen være: Hver långiver som har gitt noe til sin neste, skal ettergi det; han skal ikke kreve det av sin neste eller sin bror, for det kalles Herrens frigivelse.

And this is the manner of the release: Every creditor that lenth ought unto his neighbour shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the LORD'S release.

Fra en utlending kan du kreve det tilbake; men det som er hos din bror, skal du ettergi med din hånd.

Of a foreigner thou mayest exact it again: but that which is thine with thy brother thine hand shall release;

Unntatt hvis det ikke finnes noen fattige blant dere, for Herren skal rikelig velsigne deg i det landet Herren din Gud gir deg som arv for å ta i eie.

Save when there shall be no poor among you; for the LORD shall greatly bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it:

Bare hvis du nøye lytter til Herrens, din Guds, stemme for å holde alle disse budene som jeg befaler deg i dag.

Only if thou carefully hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all these commandments which I command thee this day.

For Herren din Gud vil velsigne deg, som han har lovet deg, og du skal låne ut til mange folkeslag, men du skal ikke låne; du skal herske over mange folkeslag, men de skal ikke herske over deg.

For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.

Hvis det er en fattig blant dere, en av dine brødre innenfor noen av dine porter i landet som Herren din Gud gir deg, skal du ikke forharde ditt hjerte eller lukke din hånd for din fattige bror.

If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harn thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:

Men du skal åpne din hånd for ham og uten tvil låne ham det han trenger, som er tilstrekkelig for hans behov.

But thou shalt open thine hand wi unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.

Pass på at det ikke blir en egoistisk tanke i ditt onde hjerte og si: 'Det syvende året, frigivelsesåret, nærmer seg'; og at ditt øye ser ondt på din fattige bror, og at du ikke gir ham noe, slik at han roper til Herren mot deg, og det blir til synd for deg.

Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.

Du skal uten tvil gi ham, og ditt hjerte skal ikke bli bedrøvet når du gir ham; for på grunn av dette vil Herren din Gud velsigne deg i alt ditt arbeid og i alt du gjør.

Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.

For de fattige vil aldri mangle i landet, derfor befaler jeg deg og sier: Du skal åpne din hånd for din bror, for din fattige og trengende i ditt land.

For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wi unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

Og hvis din bror, en hebraisk mann eller en hebraisk kvinne, blir solgt til deg og tjener deg i seks år, da skal du i det syvende året la ham gå fri fra deg.

And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.

Og når du lar ham gå fri, skal du ikke sende ham bort tomhendt.

And when thou senst him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty:

Du skal gi ham rikelig av din buskap, fra din treskeplass og fra din vinpresse; av det som Herren din Gud har velsignet deg med, skal du gi ham.

Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.

Og du skal huske at du selv var slave i Egypt, og Herren din Gud løste deg ut. Derfor befaler jeg deg dette i dag.

And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God reemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day.

Men hvis han sier til deg: 'Jeg vil ikke gå fra deg,' fordi han elsker deg og ditt hus, fordi det går godt for ham med deg,

And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee;

Da skal du ta en syl, og stikke den gjennom øret hans ved døren, og han skal være din tjener for alltid. Og det samme skal du gjøre med din tjenestepike.

Then thou shalt take an aul, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever. And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise.

Det skal ikke føles vondt for deg når du lar ham gå fri fra deg, for han har vært verdt dobbelt så mye som en leid tjener for deg ved å tjene deg i seks år. Og Herren din Gud vil velsigne deg i alt du gjør.

It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou senst him away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all that thou doest.

Alle de førstefødte hanner som fødes av ditt fe og din flokk, skal du hellige til Herren din Gud; du skal ikke arbeide med den førstefødte av din okse, og du skal ikke klippe den førstefødte av din sau.

All the firstling males that come of thy herd and of thy flock thou shalt sanctify unto the LORD thy God: thou shalt do no work with the firstling of thy bullock, nor shear the firstling of thy sheep.

Du skal spise den for Herren din Gud hvert år på det stedet Herren velger, du og ditt hus.

Thou shalt eat it before the LORD thy God year by year in the place which the LORD shall choose, thou and thy household.

Men hvis det er noen feil ved den, hvis den er halt eller blind, eller har noen annen alvorlig feil, skal du ikke ofre den til Herren din Gud.

And if there be any blemish therein, as if it be lame, or blind, or have any ill blemish, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the LORD thy God.

Du skal spise den innenfor dine egne porter; både de som er urene og de som er rene, kan spise den, som med gasellen og hjorten.

Thou shalt eat it within thy gates: the unclean and the clean person shall eat it alike, as the roebuck, and as the hart.

Men blodet skal du ikke spise; du skal helle det ut på jorden som vann.

Only thou shalt not eat the blood thereof; thou shalt pour it upon the ground as water.
