Og Moses og Israels eldste befalte folket og sa: Hold alle de befalingene som jeg gir dere i dag.

And Moses with the elrs of Israel command the people, saying, Keep all the commandments which I command you this day.

Og den dagen dere går over Jordan til det land som Herren din Gud gir deg, skal du reise store steiner og kalke dem med kalk.

And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaister them with plaister:

Og du skal skrive på dem alle ordene i denne loven når du har gått over, så du kan komme inn i det landet som Herren din Gud gir deg, et land som flyter med melk og honning, slik som Herren dine fedres Gud har lovet deg.

And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over, that thou mayest go in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, a land that floweth with milk and honey; as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee.

Og når dere har gått over Jordan, skal dere sette opp disse steinene som jeg befaler dere i dag, på fjellet Ebal, og kalke dem med kalk.

Therefore it shall be when ye be gone over Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in mount Ebal, and thou shalt plaister them with plaister.

Der skal du bygge et alter for Herren din Gud, et alter av steiner. Du skal ikke bruke noe jernverktøy på dem.

And there shalt thou build an altar unto the LORD thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them.

Du skal bygge Herrens din Guds alter av hele steiner, og du skal ofre brennoffer på det til Herren din Gud.

Thou shalt build the altar of the LORD thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings thereon unto the LORD thy God:

Og du skal ofre fredsoffer og spise der, og glede deg foran Herren din Gud.

And thou shalt offer peace offerings, and shalt eat there, and rejoice before the LORD thy God.

Og du skal skrive alle ordene i denne loven tydelig på steinene.

And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

Og Moses og prestene, levittene, talte til hele Israel og sa: Vær oppmerksomme og lytt, Israel! I dag er du blitt Herrens din Guds folk.

And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the LORD thy God.

Derfor skal du adlyde Herrens din Guds røst og gjøre hans bud og forskrifter, som jeg befaler deg i dag.

Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the LORD thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.

Og Moses ga folket befaling samme dag og sa:

And Moses charged the people the same day, saying,

Disse skal stå på fjellet Gerizim for å velsigne folket når dere har gått over Jordan: Simeon, Levi, Juda, Issakar, Josef og Benjamin.

These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, when ye are come over Jordan; Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin:

Og disse skal stå på fjellet Ebal for å forbanne: Ruben, Gad, Asjer, Sebulon, Dan og Naftali.

And these shall stand upon mount Ebal to curse; Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.

Og levittene skal tale og si til alle Israels menn med høy røst:

And the Levites shall speak, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice,

Forbannet være den mann som lager et utskåret eller støpt bilde, en avskyelighet for Herren, håndverkets arbeid, og setter det på et skjult sted. Og hele folket skal svare og si: Amen.

Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

Forbannet være den som vanærer sin far eller sin mor. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet være den som flytter sin nabos grensestein. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that removeth his neighbour's landmark. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet være den som får den blinde til å gå vill på veien. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that maketh the blind to wanr out of the way. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet være den som vri dommen for innflytteren, den farløse og enken. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that perverteth the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet være den som ligger med sin fars kone; for han avdekker sin fars seng. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that lieth with his father's wife; because he uncovereth his father's skirt. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet være den som ligger med et hvilket som helst dyr. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that lieth with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet være den som ligger med sin søster, datteren til sin far eller datteren til sin mor. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet være den som ligger med sin svigermor. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that lieth with his mother in law. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet være den som slår sin nabo i hemmelighet. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that smiteth his neighbour secretly. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet være den som tar betaling for å drepe en uskyldig person. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that taketh reward to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet være den som ikke bekrefter alle ordene i denne loven for å gjøre dem. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.
