Så lytt nå, Israel, til lovene og dommene som jeg lærer dere, for at dere skal handle etter dem, så dere kan leve og gå inn i det landet som Herren, deres fedres Gud, gir dere.

Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.

Dere skal ikke legge noe til det ordet jeg befaler dere, heller ikke trekke fra det, så dere kan holde Herrens, deres Guds, bud som jeg pålegger dere.

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

Øynene deres har sett hva Herren gjorde på grunn av Baal-Peor; for alle de mennene som fulgte Baal-Peor, har Herren deres Gud utslettet fra blant dere.

Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baal-peor: for all the men that followed Baal-peor, the LORD thy God hath stroyed them from among you.

Men dere som holdt fast ved Herren deres Gud, er alle i live denne dag.

But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day.

Se, jeg har lært dere lover og dommer, slik som Herren min Gud har befalt meg, for at dere skal følge dem i det landet dere skal gå inn for å ta i eie.

Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God command me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.

Dere skal holde dem og gjøre etter dem, for dette er deres visdom og forstand i folkenes øyne. Når de hører om alle disse lovene, vil de si: Sannelig, dette store folket er et visdomsfullt og forstandig folk.

Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your unrstanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and unrstanding people.

For hvilket stort folk er det som har Gud så nær til seg, slik som Herren vår Gud er i alt vi kaller på ham for?

For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?

Og hvilket stort folk har lover og dommer så rettferdige som hele denne loven, som jeg legger framfor dere i dag?

And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

Men ta deg i akt, og pass godt på din sjel, så du ikke glemmer de tingene dine øyne har sett, og de ikke går ut av ditt hjerte alle dine levedager. Lær dem til dine barn og dine barnebarn.

Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they part from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;

Særlig den dagen da du sto foran Herren din Gud på Horeb, da Herren sa til meg: Samle folket til meg, så skal jeg la dem høre mine ord, så de kan lære å frykte meg alle de dager de lever på jorden, og så de kan lære sine barn.

Specially the day that thou stoost before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.

Dere kom nær og sto ved foten av fjellet, og fjellet brant med ild til himmelens høyde, med mørke, skyer og tett mørke.

And ye came near and stood unr the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.

Og Herren talte til dere midt ut av ilden. Dere hørte lyden av ordene, men så ingen skikkelse; bare en stemme hørte dere.

And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitu; only ye heard a voice.

Og han kunngjorde sin pakt for dere, som han befalte dere å holde, nemlig de ti bud; og han skrev dem på to steintavler.

And he clared unto you his covenant, which he command you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.

Og Herren befalte meg på den tiden å lære dere lover og dommer, for at dere skulle gjøre dem i det landet som dere skal inn for å ta i eie.

And the LORD command me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it.

Så ta dere vel i akt, for dere så ingen skikkelse den dagen da Herren talte til dere på Horeb midt ut av ilden.

Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitu on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire:

Så dere ikke ødelegger dere selv ved å lage et utskåret bilde av noen skikkelse, i likhet med en mann eller en kvinne,

Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitu of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

eller lik noen dyr på jorden, eller lik noen flygende fugl under himmelen,

The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air,

eller lik noe krypende på bakken, eller lik noen fisk i vannene under jorden.

The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:

La heller ikke dine øyne løftes mot himmelen, så du, når du ser solen, månen og stjernene, hele himmelens hær, lar deg drive til å tilbe dem og tjene dem, ting som Herren din Gud har delt ut til alle folk under hele himmelen.

And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shoulst be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divid unto all nations unr the whole heaven.

Men Herren har tatt dere og ført dere ut av smelteovnen, av Egypt, for å være hans eiendomsfolk, som dere er denne dag.

But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day.

Videre ble Herren vred på meg for deres skyld, og sverget at jeg ikke skulle gå over Jordan og ikke komme inn i det gode landet som Herren din Gud gir deg som arv.

Furthermore the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and sware that I should not go over Jordan, and that I should not go in unto that good land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance:

Så jeg må dø her i dette landet, jeg får ikke gå over Jordan, men dere skal gå over og ta i eie det gode landet.

But I must die in this land, I must not go over Jordan: but ye shall go over, and possess that good land.

Ta dere i akt, så dere ikke glemmer pakten med Herren deres Gud, som han inngikk med dere, og lage et utskåret bilde av noen skikkelse Herren din Gud har forbudt deg.

Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he ma with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God hath forbidn thee.

For Herren din Gud er en fortærende ild, en nidkjær Gud.

For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

Når du får barn og barnebarn og har blitt gammel i landet, og dere forderver dere og lager et utskåret bilde av noen skikkelse, gjør det som er ondt i Herrens, deres Guds, øyne for å vekke hans vrede,

When thou shalt beget children, and children's children, and ye shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, and shall do evil in the sight of the LORD thy God, to provoke him to anger:

kaller jeg himmel og jord til vitne mot dere i dag, at dere sannelig vil gå til grunne raskt fra det landet dere går over Jordan for å ta i eie. Dere vil ikke leve lenge der, men dere vil bli fullstendig ødelagt.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be stroyed.

Og Herren vil spre dere blant folkene, og dere vil være et fåtall blant folkeslagene hvor Herren vil føre dere.

And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the LORD shall lead you.

Der skal dere tjene guder, verk av menneskers hender, av tre og stein, som verken ser, hører, spiser eller lukter.

And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

Men hvis dere der søker Herren deres Gud, skal dere finne ham, hvis dere søker ham av hele deres hjerte og hele deres sjel.

But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

Når du er i trengsel, og alt dette kommer over deg, i de siste dager, hvis du vender deg til Herren din Gud og er lydig mot hans røst,

When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice;

(For Herren din Gud er en barmhjertig Gud) vil han ikke forlate deg, heller ikke ødelegge deg eller glemme pakten med dine fedre, som han sverget dem.

(For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither stroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

Spør nå om de dager som er passert, som var før din tid, fra den dagen Gud skapte mennesket på jorden, og spør fra den ene enden av himmelen til den andre, om det har skjedd noe så stort som dette, eller om noe slikt har vært hørt.

For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one si of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?

Har noe folk noen gang hørt Guds røst tale midt ut av ilden, slik som du har hørt, og likevel levd?

Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?

Eller har Gud forsøkt å hente seg et folk fra en annen nasjon ved prøvelser, tegn, under, krig, sterk hånd, utstrakt arm og store redsler, slik som Herren deres Gud gjorde for dere i Egypten for deres øyne?

Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonrs, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

Dette ble vist deg for at du skulle vite at Herren, han er Gud; det finnes ingen annen ved siden av ham.

Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else besi him.

Fra himmelen lot han deg høre sin røst for å lære deg, og på jorden viste han deg sitt store ild, og du hørte hans ord midt ut av ilden.

Out of heaven he ma thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou hearst his words out of the midst of the fire.

Fordi han elsket dine fedre, valgte han deres etterkommere etter dem og førte deg ut med sin store kraft fra Egypt,

And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt;

for å drive ut for deg nasjoner større og mektigere enn du, for å føre deg inn og gi deg deres land som arv, som det er denne dag.

To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.

Vær derfor klar over denne dag, og legg deg det på hjertet, at Herren, han er Gud i himmelen ovenfor og på jorden nedenfor; det er ingen annen.

Know therefore this day, and consir it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.

Du skal derfor følge hans lover og bud, som jeg befaler deg denne dag, så det kan gå deg vel og dine barn etter deg, og at du kan leve lenge i det landet som Herren din Gud gir deg, for evig.

Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever.

Da valgte Moses ut tre byer på denne siden av Jordan mot soloppgangen,

Then Moses severed three cities on this si Jordan toward the sunrising;

for at den som uforvarende hadde drept sin nabo, og ikke hatet ham tidligere, kunne flykte dit og redde sitt liv ved å flykte til en av disse byene.

That the slayer might flee thither, which should kill his neighbour unawares, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live:

Det var nemlig Bezer i ørkenen, på slettelandet, tilhørende Rubenittene; Ramot i Gilead, for gadittene; og Golán i Basan, for manassittene.

Namely, Bezer in the wilrness, in the plain country, of the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, of the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, of the Manassites.

Dette er loven som Moses la fram for israelittene:

And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel:

Disse er vitnesbyrdene, lovene, og dommene, som Moses talte til israelittene etter at de hadde kommet ut av Egypt,

These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moses spake unto the children of Israel, after they came forth out of Egypt,

på denne siden av Jordan, i dalen overfor Bet-Peor, i landet til Sihon, kongen av amorittene, som bodde i Hesjbon, og som Moses og israelittene slo etter at de kom ut av Egypt.

On this si Jordan, in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote, after they were come forth out of Egypt:

De tok hans land i eie, sammen med landet til Og, kongen av Basan, to amorittkonger, som var på denne siden av Jordan mot soloppgangen,

And they possessed his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, which were on this si Jordan toward the sunrising;

fra Aroer, som ligger ved bredden av elven Arnon, til fjellet Sion, som er Hermon,

From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river Arnon, even unto mount Sion, which is Hermon,

og hele slettelandet på denne siden av Jordan østover, til Saltsjøen ved foten av Pisga.

And all the plain on this si Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the plain, unr the springs of Pisgah.
