Alle budene som jeg gir deg i dag, skal dere følge, slik at dere kan leve, formere dere, og gå inn og ta i eie det landet som Herren sverget å gi til deres fedre.

All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers.

Og du skal huske hele veien Herren din Gud har ledet deg disse førti årene i ørkenen, for å ydmyke deg og prøve deg, for å kjenne hjertet ditt, om du ville holde hans bud eller ikke.

And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilrness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou woulst keep his commandments, or no.

Han ydmyket deg og lot deg sulte, og deretter ga han deg manna å spise, noe du ikke kjente til, heller ikke dine fedre, for å få deg til å forstå at mennesket ikke lever av brød alene, men av hvert ord som kommer fra Herrens munn.

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

Klærne dine ble ikke utslitt på deg, og føttene dine hovnet ikke opp i disse førti årene.

Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.

Tenk også over i ditt hjerte at slik en mann tukter sin sønn, slik tukter Herren din Gud deg.

Thou shalt also consir in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.

Derfor skal du holde budene fra Herren din Gud, og vandre på hans veier og frykte ham.

Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.

For Herren din Gud fører deg inn i et godt land, et land med bekker, kilder og dyp som bryter frem i daler og åser;

For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and pths that spring out of valleys and hills;

et land med hvete, bygg, vinstokker, fikentrær og granatepler; et land med oljetre og honning;

A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;

et land hvor du skal spise brød uten mangel, hvor du ikke skal mangle noe; et land hvor stenene er jern, og hvor du kan bryte kobber ut fra fjellene.

A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass.

Når du har spist og er mett, skal du prise Herren din Gud for det gode landet han har gitt deg.

When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.

Vokt deg så du ikke glemmer Herren din Gud, ved å unnlate å holde hans bud, lover og forskrifter, som jeg gir deg i dag.

Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:

Når du har spist og er mett, og har bygd fine hus å bo i også;

Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;

og når din buskap og dine flokker øker, og ditt sølv og ditt gull øker, og alt du har øker,

And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;

da må du ikke bli hovmodig og glemme Herren din Gud, som førte deg ut av Egyptens land, fra slavehuset;

Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;

han som ledet deg gjennom den store og fryktelige ørkenen, med brennende slanger og skorpioner, og tørke, hvor det ikke var vann; han som brakte vann til deg fra flinthard stein;

Who led thee through that great and terrible wilrness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;

han som ga deg manna i ørkenen, noe dine fedre ikke kjente til, for å ydmyke deg og for å prøve deg, slik at han kunne gjøre vel mot deg til slutt.

Who fed thee in the wilrness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;

Så skal du ikke si i ditt hjerte: 'Min styrke og min hånds kraft har skaffet meg denne rikdommen.'

And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.

Men du skal huske Herren din Gud, for det er han som gir deg kraft til å skape rikdom, for å bekrefte sin pakt som han sverget til dine fedre, slik det er i dag.

But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.

Og det skal være slik at hvis du noen gang glemmer Herren din Gud, og følger andre guder, tjener dem og tilber dem, så vit at jeg vitner mot dere i dag at dere sannelig skal gå til grunne.

And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.

På samme måte som de folkeslag Herren ødelegger for ansiktet deres, skal dere gå til grunne fordi dere ikke var lydige mot Herrens, deres Guds, røst.

As the nations which the LORD stroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God.
