Hør, Israel! I dag skal du krysse Jordan for å innta nasjoner som er større og mektigere enn deg selv, byer som er store og befestet opp til himmelen.

Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than thyself, cities great and fenced up to heaven,

Et stort og høyt folkeslag, anakittenes barn, som du kjenner til og har hørt om, ingen kan stå imot anakittene!

A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak!

Forstå derfor i dag at Herren din Gud går foran deg; som en fortærende ild skal han ødelegge dem, og han skal kaste dem ned foran deg. Slik skal du drive dem ut og raskt ødelegge dem, som Herren har sagt til deg.

Unrstand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall stroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and stroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee.

Si ikke i ditt hjerte, når Herren din Gud har drevet dem ut foran deg, 'For min rettferdighets skyld har Herren latt meg innta dette landet,' men det er for denne nasjonens ondskap at Herren driver dem ut foran deg.

Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.

Ikke for din rettferdighets skyld eller ditt hjertes oppriktighet får du innta deres land, men på grunn av nasjonenes ondskap driver Herren din Gud dem ut foran deg, for å oppfylle det løftet Herren ga dine fedre, Abraham, Isak og Jakob.

Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Forstå derfor at Herren din Gud ikke gir deg dette gode landet for din rettferdighets skyld; for du er et stivsinnet folk.

Unrstand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.

Husk, og glem ikke, hvordan du vekket Herrens vrede i ørkenen. Fra den dagen du forlot Egyptens land til dere kom til dette stedet, har dere vært opprørske mot Herren.

Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilrness: from the day that thou didst part out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the LORD.

Også ved Horeb vakte dere Herrens vrede, slik at Herren ble så harm på dere at han ville ødelegge dere.

Also in Horeb ye provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you to have stroyed you.

Da jeg gikk opp på fjellet for å motta steintavlene, selve paktens tavler som Herren laget med dere, ble jeg der på fjellet i førti dager og førti netter; jeg hverken spiste brød eller drakk vann.

When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD ma with you, then I abo in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water:

Og Herren ga meg to steintavler skrevet med Guds finger; og på dem sto alt det som Herren hadde talt til dere på fjellet ut av ilden på forsamlingens dag.

And the LORD livered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the LORD spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.

Og det skjedde etter førti dager og førti netter at Herren ga meg de to steintavlene, paktens tavler.

And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.

Og Herren sa til meg, 'Stå opp, gå raskt ned herfra, for ditt folk som du førte ut av Egypten har fordervet seg; de har raskt veket av fra den veien jeg befalte dem; de har laget seg et støpt bilde.'

And the LORD said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned asi out of the way which I command them; they have ma them a molten image.

Videre talte Herren til meg og sa, 'Jeg har sett dette folket, og se, det er et stivsinnet folk.'

Furthermore the LORD spake unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

La meg være, så jeg kan ødelegge dem og utslette deres navn under himmelen, og jeg vil gjøre deg til en nasjon mektigere og større enn dem.

Let me alone, that I may stroy them, and blot out their name from unr heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.

So I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount burned with fire: and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.

Og jeg så, og se, dere hadde syndet mot Herren deres Gud; dere hadde laget dere en støpt kalv; dere hadde raskt veket av fra den veien Herren hadde befalt dere.

And I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against the LORD your God, and had ma you a molten calf: ye had turned asi quickly out of the way which the LORD had command you.

Og jeg tok de to tavlene, kastet dem ut av mine hender, og knuste dem for deres øyne.

And I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and brake them before your eyes.

Og jeg falt ned for Herren som første gang, i førti dager og førti netter: jeg hverken spiste brød eller drakk vann, på grunn av alle deres synder som dere begikk ved å gjøre ondt i Herrens øyne for å vekke hans vrede.

And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

For jeg fryktet for vreden og den sterke harmen som Herren var fylt med mot dere for å ødelegge dere. Men Herren lyttet også til meg på den tiden.

For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the LORD was wroth against you to stroy you. But the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also.

Og Herren var veldig harm på Aron og ville ødelegge ham; men jeg ba også for Aron på den tiden.

And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have stroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.

Og jeg tok deres synd, kalven som dere hadde laget, brente den i ilden, og knuste den og malte den til støv, til den ble som støv, og jeg kastet støvet i bekken som rant ned fra fjellet.

And I took your sin, the calf which ye had ma, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small, even until it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that scend out of the mount.

Ved Tabera, ved Massa, og ved Kibrot-Hattaava, provoserte dere også Herren.

And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth-hattaavah, ye provoked the LORD to wrath.

Da Herren sendte dere fra Kades-Barnea og sa, 'Gå opp og ta landet i besittelse som jeg har gitt dere,' gjorde dere opprør mot Herrens bud, deres Gud, dere trodde ham ikke og lyttet ikke til hans stemme.

Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kash-barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.

Dere har vært opprørske mot Herren fra den dagen jeg kjente dere.

Ye have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

Så jeg falt på ny ned for Herren i førti dager og førti netter; for Herren hadde sagt at han ville ødelegge dere.

Thus I fell down before the LORD forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because the LORD had said he would stroy you.

Jeg ba derfor til Herren og sa, 'Herre Gud, ødelegg ikke ditt folk og din arv som du har forløst gjennom din storhet, som du førte ut av Egypt med en mektig hånd.'

I prayed therefore unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, stroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast reemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

Husk dine tjenere, Abraham, Isak og Jakob; se ikke på ditt folks stivsinn, deres ondskap eller deres synd.

Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin:

For at landet hvorfra du brakte oss ikke skal si, 'Fordi Herren ikke var i stand til å føre dem inn i landet han hadde lovet dem, og fordi han hatet dem, førte han dem ut for å drepe dem i ørkenen.'

Lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he hath brought them out to slay them in the wilrness.

Men de er ditt folk og din arv, som du førte ut med din store kraft og med din utstrakte arm.

Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched out arm.
